Quitting my ADHD medication and caffeine cold turkey tomorrow.

Been taking adhd medication for about 4 years now. It basically has no effect on me anymore (low dosage).

I also consume about 800-1000mg of caffeine a day.

I have a serious problem and I guess I have a really addictive personality when it comes to uppers. I've probably done permanent damage to my cardio vascular and nervous system

How much is it gonna suck to quit both cold turkey?

Its been about 3 months since I have stopped my Vitamin A.

Still not 100%.

I would suggest titrating yourself down.

Load up on food because you will be hungry as fuk, depressed, and tired.

It will suck for awhile but it gets better.

I already feel really depressed most days. Headaches 24/7. And I had blood work done about 2 weeks ago and I had signs of being malnourished. I basically eat one moderately sized meal a day and drink coffee nonstop ... Idk how I'm alive lol

How long were you on for?

When you say you don't feel 100% 3 months out what do you mean? Details?

I know that feel. I always end up sleeping like 15 - 20 hours in the first day off.

It's never worth it to me. After about a month, I just go back to how I was before the stims and that life isn't worth living. It doesn't help that I don't have the high energy, hyperactive type of ADHD either... I have the kind that makes me a slow, lethargic potato, as if my brain is deficient not just in dopamine, but norepinephrine as well. The highest doses of EC stack don't do chit for me.

If I at least had the energy, then I could justify coming off and simply finding the right lifestyle to accommodate me. But it's fuking unreasonable that I have top 2% natty test (and have gone beyond that, nomsayin), meditate everyday, do cardio 3 - 4 times a week PLUS weight lifting, drink a heaping plateful of veggies in green juice everyday, have a perfect diet, take every vitamin/supp I can think of, and throw EC stack on top of that and STILL don't even come close to even a low dose of my meds. I put more effort than just about everyone to still perform worse than they do. Low energy, brain fog, forgetfulness, can't read for chit (as opposed to reading 70 books this year on meds AND retaining the information), low impulse control, lower baseline mood, no motivation, just complete apathy in day to day life. I can't even fuking play vidya games or watch movies because the tiniest bit of activation effort and time investment is too much for me.

Fuk it. I'm not ever quitting. I'd rather stay on my meds for life and die at 45 than to live to 80 without them (not that this would happen either, just hypothetical). I've gotten addicted to them too, in the sense that I'll take an extra couple doses fairly often, but IMO the solution to me is to, at worst, run out early and LDAR for 2 - 3 weeks every three months, or to buy a time release electronic safe which I'll probably do later this year because I'm usually fine as long as I eliminate the element of choice. It's similar to eating clean... If you put delicious cupcakes or whatever in the kitchen, my willpower is going to fail me 4 out of 5 times, but I can stick to a diet if I simply eliminate the option to make that decision by never buying junk food at all. I figure a time release safe or some other obstacle should be enough to keep my junkie side under control.

a little over 3 years total.

and by not 100% I mean that I feel like my brain just doesnt perform as well as it did before.

I will get random bouts of depression, anger, and just not give 2 fuks about anything.

Somedays I wake up so tired, it was like I didnt sleep at all.

Its getting better but it does suck.

The tiredness is probably the worst, because it makes me feel like sh!t for laying around doing nothing all day.

Eh, to be fair, I need it enough that there's no way I could have ever gone weeks without it unless I wanted to be a disorganized, scatter brained, forgetful mess for those few weeks. And I didn't start to become addicted until the 5th year I was on the stuff. lol

The addiction mainly developed due to habitually taking more than needed during my depressed phase because it made me feel better and gave me more energy and motivation during a time when it was a chore to get out of bed. I was full blown depressed, like to the point where I can't even comprehend it anymore. And I did eventually get out of that depression, but the habit was already there. It's a slippery slope.

You will recover from the caffeine within 3 weeks most likely, but the ADHD meds will take months of ACTIVE recovery, not just "cold turkey" ...

So I would recommend you honestly taper off all of them, then once you have hit the 'zero' dose day...clear out a few weeks to take a vacation or go camping, and make it as boring as possible for your brain to "prune" out the neural connections that it needs to. To only productive things that take a grand amount of patience... read books, exercise vigorously, lay in bed for a set amount of time even if you cant sleep, eat healthy foods that dont taste too good, and then go back to a normal life after this "vacation" by dialing down some of those annoying good habits lol.

In response to caffeine and amphetamine based stimulants, the brain does some funny things by adding a great deal of receptors... so your PERCEIVED motivation is very low.

It's all in your head (literally) and this is the only way to truly recover from it.

AFAIK, you won't have any issues with your cardiovascular/limbic systems after a while.

My srs advice:

If you quit cold turkey and you keep doing the same job, same routine, same daily activities you've been doing; it's going to be absolute hell --- expect spending countless hours trying to find something that motivates you to even get out of bed before 2pm.

However, I think you can avoid this total dopamine crash by actively seeking new experiences and really trying to improve your life in multiple areas.
-Actively look for a better job --- or better yet, a career that you actually care about.
-Go back to college
-Learn a new skill: martial arts, musical instrument, new language

I really think you have to aim big for this to work.

You have to find something that's more fulfilling and gives your life deeper meaning than the artificial dopamine spikes provided by the medicine.
