I worked as an LEO by a massive college campus. The way I was trained (including my years in the military as an LEO) is if there's drugs, you can probably bet there's guns somewhere too (college or not). Guns + drugs is a felony where I'm from with mandatory minimum sentences. This kid would have been cuffed and searched before even getting into my squad car, and remained cuffed until released or turned over to jail where he would (should) be searched thoroughly again.

It's a ****ty situation, but it should have been prevented by basic safety practices by the LEO. Complacency kills =/

Huh... went from a drug and weapons charge (some drug charges get worse when a firearm is at the scene)... which could have gotten a slap on the wrist if he had a clean background... to murder of a cop.

As for why he wasn't patted down.. I can only assume implicit bias on the cop's part. I'm not blaming the victim, he didn't deserve to get shot.
