The thing is most kids I see think college is just a huge ****ing party for 4 years. That they wont have a single worry while in college, not thinking about the future impact all of these loans will have on their life.
Sure you can have the time of your life for 4 years but after that is going to be brutal.
I didnt go to school for the "college experience" I worked my ass of to come out debt free and started to party when I had the money to do so.

Took 36K out for a BSME from GA Tech, probably the best decision I could've made.

Been out of school nearly 3 years and paid off about 10K of the principle. Almost all of that has been in the last 9 months since getting married, that 2-income household tho

I would have been a horror story if I listened to all my teachers and guidance counselors in high school.

brb take your SATs
brb go to a private college for a better education
brb you wont make a living unless you get a 4 year degree
brb take general studies since youre young and don't have you life figured out

Guidance counselor threatened to call my mother because I was refusing to sign up for the SATs and apply for colleges.

Told the ******* I was going to community college.

But lol at the elitist *******s ITT that think every 17 and 18 year old really understand the ramifications that these student loans have on them after college. University and degrees are shoved down your throat since 8th grade and as an impressionably teen, you obviously think that's the natural path to success. Then they give you all these options and tell you, no matter what you take, as long as you have a 4 year degree there will always be a career for you.

Student loans turned into a profit taking machine for banks to prey on kids.

It's possible man, don't worry, I was only paying interest for a WHILE. The minute I graduated, I already had accumulated 2,000 dollars of interest, and had $0 saved up because of my chit school job. Took me a while to get past the interest point, but just kept grinding and finally started paying off individual loans. You'll make it.

My parents were ignorant and pretty poor.

They steered me in the right direction going to school, but wish they had set me straight in high school about choosing a career path and pursuing it instead of letting me pick business.

What a chit degree.

However I'm very financially intelligent and my future children most likely wont have to bear the brunt of student loans like I did.

I graduated with like 130k in loans. I made a single online payment of 100k and left some fed loans. Still paying because the interest isn’t bad and good for credit. Payment is low and the wife has two PHDs and got paid to get them so as a family I lucked out I guess.

Hindsight, I should have been like some of you and paid on them while I was in school and not waiting until they were "due".

Nah, joined the army for a few years and fuked up my back, then got a job that paid 100% tuition (pay was not that great, but who cares free tuition).

So I guess I had my tuition paid for twice, employer and the VA since I had service connected injury. Didn't take the VA money though since I figure people who are worse off than me needed it.

It isn't that hard even in 2017.

not sure about now but navient was having people jump through hoops to have amounts paid to principle, like sending a letter saying this is for principal instead of having an option to do so online with every other type of credit account in the history of usury (in modern times)

ALSO THIS, i'm not trying to make excuses or NOT pay back what I owe but I mean I had no idea. Just as an aside by the time I was 18 my mom had already been using and not paying on credit accounts she took out in MY name...so you think I got some real advice on these things. My dad is way smarter but still even then never really had an indepth discussion about credit and all of that.
