You think he's overrated, but you don't even play guitar. You don't know jack chit about music. Hendrix was a genius, creatively he was years beyond the mainstream at the time.

I agree. He isn't the GOAT. Not even remotely. The GOAT guitarists are people like Michael Angelo Batio, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Buckethead. If you take any guitarist from a serious melodic death metal band, such as COB, Kalmah, Amon Amarth, they can play very VERY well on a good day, and definitely demonstrate more technical skill than Hendrix did, but the style was totally different back then. Hendrix was a pioneer.

In my opinion, the most talented guitarist musically but not technically of all time was Jon Nรถdtveidt from Dissection. It's a shame the dude was a total psychopath who murdered some innocent dude just cause he was gay, and literally sacrificed himself to satan via gunshot wound to the head.

Dude had the most incredible riffs of all time. COB steals half their riffs from this album lmao.

Actually, if you really want to look at pioneers in guitar, in my opinion, you have to include Chuck Berry. He was WAAAAAAY ahead of his time. You can make a strong case that he, Elvis, and a couple of other artists practically invented rock and roll.

He was one of the most creative musicians I've ever heard.
May not be the most skilled cookie cutter guitarist but who cares?

Imagine it's 1967 an your listening to your transitor radio in your pickup truck. The Monkeys Daydream Beliver just finished playing. Then you hear Purple Haze for the first time. Love him or hate him he was light years ahead of his peers.

So true. Also the correct answer to these threads is Guthrie Govan.

Im not a big rolling stones fan but they deserve an honorable mention thrown in there as well. People are jamming to wuss rock then in 1966 Paint It Black comes out. Peoples minds must have exploded.

he was ahead of his time. that's why he's looked upon so fondly.
sort've an apples and oranges comparison tho.

Anyway, I know I'll catch sh*t for this, but Hammett was my inspiration as a kid to start playing.

Agreed. I think some of their material a few years later was ahead of its time too - Gimme Shelter is a good example.
