There's plenty of does for meat.

Best deer so far (been up since Friday). Still not a shooter yet, but he'll be nice next year if he survives.

if you shoot a 3.5 year old deer, that's good. My BIL shot a 170 inch deer 5 years ago, was the biggest/oldest deer prob ever taken off that property
that said, with a bow, I'll shoot a good 2.5 year old and I would def shoot that one

Beta Alanine (which is for endurance not so much typical resistance training) preferably 1.6/2x a day, creatine 3-5 grams daily or at least 5 days a week. Any time of day for either.

"If it moves, you shoot" mentality needs to be discarded. The bucks where I hunt rarely reach 3 years as people will hunt them down in the middle of the night. Blame it on human greed.

It's also upsetting when all the neighbors aren't on the same page, we've got must everybody that hunts our place on board but it's still an issue bc it's family land so it's hard to set hard line rules since there's no real repercussion and some people only get to hunt maybe once or twice and everybody has equal "rights" to hunt it
We have a 2 buck limit which one has to be a wall hanger. But, everybody's definition of that is different

I live near a fishing town. Ocean, lakes, ponds, salt marshes, etc.
Very easy to toss a line over a bridge of salt water and bring home pounds of fish in a few hours.
I could see in SHTF it will look like the watering holes in Botswana.

It's open season here for 2 weeks with a rifle, and what, 3 months with a bow? And that supposedly controls population for a whole year.
Obviously people are going to exhaust all other options in a SHTF situation, but I say once it goes to hunting for food the deer population is wiped out in a month.

It, meaning subsistence hunting in an area as densely populated as most of the US, has not been done for thousands of years. Probably it's never been done.

Let's be serious.
If you had a no-**** long-term fall of civilization, almost everyone in California, NJ, DC, Baltimore, NYC, Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, and Boston would be dead in 3 months. Talking about the "current population of the US" like everyone has rifles or even guns in general is silly.
I'd give the cities about 3 weeks before the cannibalism started, and about 5 weeks before people stopped waiting for others to die to eat them. So, the rest of the country's ~150 million remaining people are much more likely to be living in rural/suburban areas. How much disturbance would there be for those folks?
I'd think that the things being hunted to extinction would be house-pets and rats like you see in Venezuela. People from street gangs in Chicago aren't going to be hunting deer to extinction.

I try not thinking of these things as national, but rather local. A catastrophic regional disaster for someone living in Oregon for example might be, "get to the South." Someone living in NYC might need to "get out of the city." Thinking about it in these terms is more practical and reasonable. For example, I don't expect the entire US to be plunged into The Walking Dead overnight, but it might be reasonable to stock the items necessary to make it from my home state to a location a couple states away, or to protect my home against rioters.
While most people are storing up silver or food for their preps (or ammo, ffs) I'm thinking alcohol is probably the item to stockpile, if you only want to buy a pallet of something that won't go bad and will always be useful. People also need alcohol - disinfectant, recreation, anesthetic, etc. A pallet of vodka would go a long way toward making sure your people are fed.
