There's a few aspects to the video that would be considered emotional blackmail, for example the language used. "The sooner the better" - It should be "The sooner the progesterone is administered the higher survival rate of the child". There's no better or worse if you're trying to remain objective.

Also, the sound effects were wholly unnecessary. They just wanted to put it in for more impact. The graphic does enough job to provide the facts.

BTW you shouldn't "skip" these kinds of things, deal with it - it's real life and not everyone has the luxury to just skip and then it's gone.

I felt something, sure. But it's also just a graphic and I've seen much worse things on video out of choice because life sucks and you can't just go through it skipping things you don't like. One day it'll hit someone hard and they'll have a harder time accepting it because they averted their eyes frequently.

If they choose not to know, because as Rage says it's extremely graphic and traumatising (which I can agree with) they don't have to watch the video but then they read out posts and hey guess what now you've been informed without consent.

It's giving a link to a graphic video vs actually embedding a .gif of it in the thread. People can choose to not click the link in the former but with the latter they can't purposely avoid seeing it if they happen to see the post.

People should be encouraged to expose themselves to it by choice because it exists, even if it's outside their bubble. Hell we should evenfeel a needto watch them because it informs us of the world outside of our safe little boxes.

Topics like abortion, politics, religion and what-not don't really fall under "chat". They're very delicate topics which completely change the direction of the thread and people get heated or just chitpost. If it were its own thread the responses would devolve and it would get locked.

Not shifting, using it as an example. There are videos out there which are closed off from the public eye and videos involving killings are one of them, and it happens to be the example to use of what I'm trying to put across. I think we need to be exposed to things like stonings in Saudi Arabia for women who didn't adhere to Sharia Law but I will not condone forcing that exposure as long as people feel the need to avoid it. We should not want to avoid being aware of such things, to not avoid seeing it in pictures.

[Edit: If you're going to catch me out for talking about stonings, I believe it's too well known and too vaguely described for it to be a hypocrisy]

Everyone should watch that video. A recommendation if you will. In it's entirety (save for the commentary). But we shouldn't describe any gory details in writing because then we're forcing exposure to it.

Do you see where I'm coming from? I understand how it can be confusing but to simplify it it's "Hey watch this, it's really important but really graphic" and having that person agree to watching it, vs Clockwork Oranging it. Rage himself wanted to skip these parts in spite of wanting to inform himself, and he put one of these parts in writing in spite of it being so traumatic he refused to expose himself to it. That's double irony to me.

2 weeks ago I was on my way to work and there was a giant sky billboard of an aborted fetus at 11 weeks. It said in Polish "No abortion at 11 weeks". I admire Poland for not being so free regarding sexual freedom, enforcing people to take responsibility for their actions and trying to not make abortions as common place as America but at the same time it's too much. People have to go to work for 9 hours and that's what they see on the way to the office? Educate, don't throw things in people's faces. I despise shock value approaches because it scares people and plays on their emotions. It rarely enforces objective reflection.
