A man needs a whiskey shelf, treat yoself bro.

I have wall to wall bookshelves in my study and one shelf is all the hnng top shelf whiskeys. Feels so dope having friends over, the men excuse ourselves from the ladies to go and have a glass of the brown in the study. Comfy ass leather couch in there too, das it.

Mirin that shelf, I would like something like that.

My father in law was in KY over the weekend, so I had him pick me up some Eagle Rare since it's impossible to find here in Ohio.

Had a couple Makers at buffalo wild wings over the weekend, 1 ice cube each.

When I ordered it the bartender raised a huge eyebrow like she couldn't believe what I was ordering??

Alcohol prices can vary widely between states. Normally goes for $24.99 at most places I've seen it here in DFW TX.

Used to hate wheated bourbon but my tastes have change so much since I last tried it. Will give it a shot this week. I starting with rye then bourbon then Irish whiskey and now some scotch. I really have started to move away from that rye spicyness.

Bevmo tends to be overpriced. Look for a TotalWine if you want to shop at a larger chain store.

What 4R are you getting for $20, yellow label? If it's SmB then I mirin. But I'd rather have WT101, Bulleit Rye, or EC at the $20 and under price point.

$30 isn't bad. You might look at buying a handle and seeing if that isn't closer to the $25/750ml price point. BT has been raising prices but ER seemed to be an exception. Standard BT is $30 on sale and there's never any on the shelf at that price. Reg price is $35 and you can typically find a few bottles on the shelf. So ER10 @ $25 is a steal IMO. Also BTAC offerings are ridiculously overpriced and most stores seem to either have a lottery or mark it up at least 3x over retail.

Yeah $30 seems fair but I remember getting a bottle of it home for around $20-25 and feeling like I'd robbed the place. Was a terrific value for a long time. Feels like BT's raising prices more or less across the board - the Antiques are all hype-priced now, and of course Pappy's insane.

I just hope they don't start jacking up bottom shelf prices... the "house bottle" around Casa B is Benchmark Old No 8, which is BT's bottom shelf whiskey - it's $18 for a 1.75!! And good enough to drink straight, though I typically use that as a mixer (I like whiskey cokes here in Florida, great way to beat the heat) and sip the good stuff neat.

The Trader Joe's by my place has Suntory Toki Japanese whisky for only $39.99.
I've never seen it that cheap before, even at Total Wine.

Trader Joe's has surprisingly great prices on liquor.

I picked this up too.

Ever had the Toki? It's AMAZING with club soda. Evidently since whiskey high balls are so popular in Japan, Japanese whiskies are designed with a flavor profile that's well suited to a highball.

I don't normally drink whiskey w club soda but did nearly my whole bottle of Toki that way. Try it!

Hey all. Big (good) alcohol fan here. I actually started way back when madmen came out and i've progressed since.

Back in the day I started with glenlivit and glenfidich as they were the least expensive single scotches I could find. I preferred glenfidich. Still, Fidich and and jameson are my go toos. Mostly because over the years i've gotten so toleratn to alchol that I end up sitting down and drinking at least half a 26er, so cant spent all that money each week on better stuff.

Some other stuff I like:
Balvanie
Oban
Crown Royal (sweet treat)
I also drink A LOT of vodka these days it seems to be russian standard or titos. I find the expensive stuff is only expensive because people think its the best but, as a seasoned vodka drinker, I know 20-30$ ones that taste like 50-60$. Out of the expensive ones though, probably belvadere.

I am starting to get into bourbons for my old fashions, usually bulliet.

My bar is pretty low right now because I stopped drinkin for about 2 months after becoming a yolo alcholic for about 2 years.

Anyway, subbed.

How much club soda do you put in?
I always mess up when I do nice drinks at home by putting more of the mixer than whiskey.
If I'm doing cheap bourbon with coke/ginger ale it doesn't really matter.

I mean a textbook highball is 4:1 or 4:1.5. So from a 12 oz can of mixer you make 2 drinks that are a standard shot 1.5 oz shot of booze and 6 of mixer, or three drinks that are 4oz of mixer to a shot of booze.

So: one shot glass of booze mixed w either 1/3 or 1/2 of a 12oz can of mixer.

Really tho it's whatever tastes best to you - start with those ratios and go from there!

Whiskeys are done in pot stills (well they should be). This means less pure alcohol and more flavours of the grains. With this flavour comes fusel oils which can worsen the hangover feel. This is only one possible cause though. You’re gut may not like the flavours from peat/smoke, the barrel or the grains. Maybe your just hungover and get the taste of whiskey with a little reflux and it makes your stomach turn?

Vodka is distilled to almost pure alcohol and would not have this. That’s also why it tastes like schitt

Try something triple distilled like Jameson and see. When you get into scotches (laphroaig and caol ila come to mind) they can be quite oily.

Never realized BT made this.
It's pretty good, picked some up when we were visiting, great tour 10/10

Eagle Rare is $30 in IL just finished the first bottle off once I found that I could get it local. Solid choice.

So picked this bottle up on 10/19 (2nd page of thread, actually this crew will help me track my consumption rate, about 1 month per bottle, I rotate between 2-3 bottles)

First glass was disappointing, not sure if it didn't mix well post-meal, just wasn't a fan, but after 1-2 times it grew on me pretty good, had 3 glasses per night no problem, interested to try maybe their higher shelf options.

I keep my bourbon in the freezer, and use ice spheres when I drink, just prefer it cold I guess, which is why I don't have a shelf. Do have a neat old 1930s barrel bar with matching chairs that my grandparents bought way back when, they would have drinking parties or something.

Wife saw that I had finished off two bottles and picked me up two more, whistle pig is 50% alc/vol and 100 proof, packs a bit more of a punch than the bourbon i'm used to but goes down well.

The cowboy coffee on the left is some shine sold by a distillery in leadville colorado, that closed about 3 years back. They were having a going out of sale when I was in the area doing some climbing, and just cracked it two weeks ago, it's excellent, wish I had bought more bottles.

Will try the angel's envy tonight.
