FUK.
Pretty much this, patience and not trading on emotion pays in this game. With how volatile this market, its just a matter of time before your alts will improve or dip unless you picked complete trash.

One thing I've learned: For the coins with a good reputation, always buy the fuking dip!! EASY MONEY THERE.

BTC seems to be stable Today-

I don't trust the alts though- There is 20%-40% increase across major alts but its purely due to fork cancellation and FOMO. I expect alts to normalize when people realize BTC is solid as ever.

Nobody predicted what happened yesterday. That took everyone by surprise. Any recommendations I saw were to have your fork plans set in stone by this weekend. Not 10 days prior. Most had their funds in BTC because of the pump coming pre-fork. Everyone, and I mean everyone was positive we'd see 8,000+ pre-fork so why wouldn't we be in btc. After all, BTC has been the best hold for the past few months.

Alts pumped to their max before the news reached social media and btc started to tumble. It was easy to predict BTC was going to fall because of the news and I think that's when most people switched out to alts including myself. Not so much to ride the Alt pump but to avoid the btc drop.

The only people that benefited most from yesterday were the ones holding bags of alts. Holding btc yesterday prior to the news was the logical thing to do. IMO, those who got to ride the alt pump yesterday were nothing more than lucky.

I was in EVX back when it was down around $1.20. Got out because alts were suffering and was seeing zero hype about it even though I liked it personally, so i never got back in. Regrets for sure.

As soon as this wall at $330 for eth comes down, get ready for the floodgates to open. Plenty of people are setting margin longs after it breaks.

noob question, If im selling my coins, do I compare the price by what the btc/eth market value is or the usd price? For some of my coins, I've made gains in terms of the usd price, but the btc is still lower than what I bought it for.

what matters if the dollar amount. if your coin BTC price went down but you made money, that means you would have made more money just holding BTC itself.

People basically borrow money and can increase their buying power by 2x,3x,4x,5x etc. Its a little more complicated than that but that is just the basics. Shorts are the same except they borrow money to sell.

i agree it fuked people up but i kept writing posts about how before the last fork the lowest alt prices we saw were NOT the days right up to the fork. it was previous to that

i had kept a keen eye on that on the first one, since i wanted walton low. well, i missed out because i got out of btc later.

so when i saw walton at 4.15 i scooped it up. there were still people trying to buy those alts at cheap prices despite btc. so if btc stagnated, the alts caught back up. its when btc makes those large runs that btc kills alts

anyways, as i said, no idea why people arent more up in arms about what btc did, much less jumping into btc now

they FUKIN killed alts and had everybody to to btc, then cancelled. the first fork was legit, but the 2nd one gave them much more mainstream attention for essentially nothing

AND I GUARANFUKINTEE YOU, theyre holding another "fork" in their back pocket

I'm hopeful for Kucoin to be the next Binance. It wasn't that long ago people considered Binance some crap exchange, now Binance is my favorite with Bittrex being 2nd. But I would put Kucoin 3rd. They are listing good coins, user friendly, it runs smoothly. I think in time they will get decent volume.

srs. what had btc done previous to the first fork?

it stayed between 3 to 4k for how long?

the momentum shifted once people shifted to btc for the first fork. then it started taking off

gained more mainstream attention as it hit new highs and it could throw out news about all of its successes

then it stayed for a bit and then took off again for the 2nd fork. where it gained more mainstream attention

in the middle of the 2nd fork it also announced the btc futures stuff

but looking back, the main catalyst that got btc moving was everybody shifting from alts to btc for the "Free coins"

then it capitalizes on that attention and it has all of the market attention on btc

I don't think devs of BTC and its variants are worried about alt day traders or drawing attention away from alts. You have to see the bigger picture here, and that's the fact that Segwit is terrible for all crypto.

Not even calling you brahs who got the news at the right time dwellers lol, I mean the general market. I could easily have checked this thread or the news but when I sold out from everything to plan, I didnt have the same incentive you guys do who were already in alts to check news. Happy to see some people distraught from the heavy bags recover tho.

Completely the reason why Im not buying BTC, it fuked alot of people up, me, a few on this thread and many on reddit and other discussions. If they keep playing tricks like this being will just become disillusioned. Withdrew a significant sum back to fiat until I plan a next move, I can believe many have done the same.

Even ponzi did u ryke it Ethconnect messed me up and ended up with nothing.

I was going to buy walton before the fork was planning on tomorrow, hurts to type this FML time to rot on Fortnite Battle Royale and forget life.

So what do people think? Are we in for a steady bull run with Alts? They are certainly due.

My prediction is we are. I think it's going to follow the logical (if such a thing) progress. New money will continue to come into btc and make it way to alts.

I think people ITT are overestimating the effect segwit2x had on the general public. John Doe who pulls money out of his 401K to invest in Bitcoin doesn't even know what happened with the fork, all he knows is that BTC just dipped and therefore now is his chance to buy

definitely. there is not a single reason to buy bitcoin right now lol. bitcoin futures wont ever get approved since bitcoin price is extremely easy to manipulate (hopefully the arbitrator understands this).

is binance the place to make money now? seems like every new low market cap coin around $10-20 mil gets pumped at least 2x.

Was anyone around for the holidays and new years last year with regards to alts?

Will people move out of alts for the end of the year and 'restart' once everything gets back to normal.

For a while earlier in the year, Fridays were a terrible day to buy alts because people would take profits and it would normalize Mondays.

I'm a little anxious as we head to year end, not sure what to expect with BTC cancelling the fork and those rumbles about the December fork (bitcoin silver). I don't know if that was debunked or not but I'm probably just going to sit on 4-6 coins for 90% of my portfolio and hold for the remainder of the year. Keep 10% will be to trade joocy alts.

it doesnt draw attention away it puts more focus on btc. would btc have reached these highs without the most recent forks?

also, i know we like to believe its "decentraluzed" - maybe it can be by sheer number. however those in charge definitely have the most power

with btc able to control market sentiment so much do you think they dont capitalize on that?

what if they took sizable positions in alts right before they released the news

I wouldn't doubt if they dabble in alt trading but the fundamentals are so different, it's hard to believe that's a motivating factor at all. I'm questioning the motivation behind the 30% hash support for the fork now. To me that reeks of manipulation at a much higher level.
