I complain to the manager and am told that the member is in fact, a woman.

I just sort of Bert stared this dude....and he gave me this look like he knew it was bullchit but he can't do anything about it.

No hate for anyone, just don't want to deal with that in my private space. Dude is literally about 5'11 and the only thing remotely female is the lipstick and the wig.

Inb4 bigot, I don't give a phuck what people do at home but damn...what has the world come to.

Can only complain to the misc, all of my friends would pretend that they'd be fine with it so people would know what good little sheep they are
This is an example of the problem with the "trans movement", sure people should be free to live their lives the way they want, it just continually crosses a line when it infringes on other. Their life choices shouldn't affect the freedom or life style of others, you shouldn't have to change the way you live or feel uncomfortable because of their choice.

Unisex everything is the only ultimate solution.

Otherwise, we're going to need 50 different locker rooms for all the nonsense people can identify as. Male, Female, Both, Neither, Vegetable, Alien, Wombat, Helium..... and the gay, straight, bi, questioning, or other version of each.

What's interesting is that at the same time we're seeing this, we are also seeing an increased awareness of sexual harassment. So... I think maybe the onus is now going to be on the individual to act appropriately even in a context like a unisex locker room. Before, we kind of had the idea, culturally, that men were potentially dangerous predators best kept separate from women. That's part of the reason for separate rooms, right? But now we're giving men more credit, in a sense, by saying that they ought to be able to control themselves. And women, likewise, may be more vulnerable, but we now expect them to take care of themselves (tacitly at least) because #feminism.

I find this all very fascinating.

But I do kind of agree that the nudity taboo in our society only eroticizes it further. Forbidden fruit and all. Look at the frenzy in Islamic societies where a. women are covered up all the time and b. there are some of the HIGHEST incidents of public sexual harassment of females! (I'm thinking of Morocco as a particular example).

I've always found the assumption that men can't control themselves highly offensive, along with the idea that seeing a schlong is somehow a shocking and damaging event. But I think the separate rooms thing is more just from the puritanical / religious roots of our country.

I think the reality is that everyone would be just fine in unisex locker rooms - you know that everyday normal guys would WK to the rescue if some perv tried anything. And everyone would ultimately be much more relaxed about nudity in general. But who knows. There seems to be no shortage of weirdos these days.

At the end of the day, if you don't like the policy, leave the gym. It's a stupid rule to allow men into the ladie's lockerroom, but I'm sure the reason is that Equinox doesn't want to piss off the PC world and get boycotted for discrimination. As long as people keep electing PC politicians who push these batsh!t agendas, we'll keep sliding into some bad RL Southpark parody.

I'd be curious about what you think of this article, then:

You asked Podunks but I'll weigh in:

The article is poorly written in terms of achieving its stated aim, and you can see why by taking a part of what is written, such as:

"And while folks provisionally accept that there are men who "groom" children and "gaslight" women, the reluctance to attach that behavior to any real, flesh-and-blood man we know is extreme. Many people don't actually believe that normal men are capable of it."

And realizing that essentially what is being done is an attempt to appeal to gender politics to prove a point - that men are deliberately misrepresenting their ability to be manipulative/calculating. Even this example:

"Director Brett Ratner — to choose one unsavory example — addressed Olivia Munn's account in her book about how he masturbated in front of her (she'd left the director anonymous) by identifying himself and claiming he'd slept with her. (He later admitted she never had sex with him). It was a calculated effort to inflict maximum damage on her; to brand her a "sl[oo]t.""

This example is used in the context of a man having sex with a woman necessarily entailing that he has "taken" or "gained" something from her, and (funnily) is a kind of patriarchal comment made by a woman, against women. But who was "I can choose to have sex with X"? Where does the "sloot" thing come from?

The long and short of it is that the article is awful - unfortunately a disservice to egalitarianism.

Read enough to understand that the article is an analysis of the "faults" of men at its core. Too much of that nonsense these days. I don't like women talking about what's "wrong with men" any more than I like the misc. doing their "all women are sloots" nonsense.

The reality is that men are men and women are women and people are individuals. You don't judge people or try to "fix" them based on their gender. You address their strengths, weakness, or faults asindividuals.

This

I raised the point earlier that clothing stores offer unisex changing rooms (where you would change your clothes in private) and then exit the changing room fully clothed to have a look at yourself. That offers the necessary privacy.

But having no privacy in the comfort of a locker room (where there are private areas exposed) is not a sensible idea. I know you small cock miscers are panicking right now.

The biggest thing that bothers me with stuff like this is the danger that it presents to those I care about. I have a daughter that goes into bathrooms and locker rooms by herself. I don't like the fact that legislation etc is giving "Bill the Pervert" a legal avenue to prey on his victims. Now granted, when my little girl is in these locker rooms and such I'm standing by the door, checking on her, and if Bill tried something I would beat him to within an iota of his life.....but that's a trauma that my kid would have with her for the rest of her life.

Disclaimer - In case it was unclear in my post....I'm not saying that all alternative lifestyle folks are prone to assault or perversion. My statement is referencing legit scum bags who would use this as cover.

I agree with you. I think the article was attempting (with perhaps a bit of a biased slant) to state that in a different way: i.e. that we don't give men enough credit by insisting that they take responsibility for their actions.

I think that ties in, personally, with a trope that has always annoyed my dad and thus me in pop culture: the pathetic, bumbling idiot Sitcom Dad with the "nagging wife" who is way out of his league. It's insulting to men and demeaning, and insulting to women because it indicates that they/we ought to expect little of men, too.

You can't argue that there isn't this pop cultural idea that "boys will be boys" and that men can be viewed as pathetic children, right? And that's what I think the article was pointing out, though I can see why the tone might seem hostile toward all men. I don't THINK it needs to be taken that way.

I think we have similar weird cultural concepts around women--i.e. the classic madonna/whore complex, that women are either on a pedestal or garbage sloots.

Because my 4 year old daughter doesn't need to see strangers walking around with their dicks exposed??

Not to mention I don't trust anybody, you never know who someone really is. The person taking a piss besides you could be an extreme ****phile and you'd never know.

EDIT: To be clear, I'm aware that 99/100 times everything would be fine. I don't know if you have kids or not, but when you're a father you don't take any chances with that 1/100 possibility

Old naked man in the same room as young girl unsupervised. C'mon bro, seriously?

The guys advocating this chit clearly have no children or younger relations.
Seriously.... I'll push this further, and lets say my daughter was 11-12. Id rage the fuk out if something like this happened. At least now at 4 years old I go to the bathroom with her when in public and I can watch her. When the day comes that I'm not around I don't need to be worrying about some 50 year old creep staring at her while she changes after track practice or something.

This. I mean we already have the old naked guys in every gym lockerroom who try to creep on dudes. Can only imagine the types who would hang in lockerrooms if they were unisex. Nevermind the sketchy women who will claim harassment for anything. As a guy it puts you in a very delicate situation everytime you use the lockerroom too.

It is only a cultural construct. Some cultures it is unacceptable to be uncovered from head to toe, other co-ed nude bating, and beaches a perfectly acceptable. Don't like the norms, find a place where the norms are to your liking.
And in our culture I doubt that most women are comfortable with having a man in the locker room. This is more of a very small group of people forcing something on the majority.
