Bitcoin reaches $8,200

The world's most popular cryptocurrency has surpassed $8,200 on Monday, setting another record high. Bitcoin is up almost 850 percent this year.

November has been an extremely volatile month for bitcoin. Earlier this month, the digital currency price fell to $5,500 after developers scrapped the SegWit2X update, leading some miners and investors to shift to offshoot bitcoin cash.

However, bitcoin returned to growth on news that the Chicago Mercantile Exchange would start trading futures on the digital currency.

The cryptocurrencies have also been boosted by interest from institutional investors. Goldman Sachs and Citigroup have said they are researching cryptocurrencies and the blockchain technology that underlies them and may add them to their portfolio.

In addition to the skyrocketing price of bitcoin, the total money transferred on the network per day has seen a 1000 percent surge this year and now totals $2 billion.

Bitcoin started the year just above $1,000, and the overall growth now is approaching 850 percent. The cryptocurrency’s market capitalization has reached $137 billion. That makes bitcoin more valuable than major corporations like Siemens, Mastercard, British American Tobacco or McDonald's.

Gold has a market cap of 7trillion and is relatively useless as an actual currency
Bitcoin has a market cap of 140billion and is extremely usable as an actual currency.

My opinion: Bitcoin @ $500,000 is when I'll consider selling some of mine.

I was a naysayer until I saw the effect btc was having on the stock values of companies who started to give it attention. It's in it's infancy based on what I'm seeing there (in stocks)

Agreed, the folks who saw ahead this far confuse me still though. I wasn't on board until I saw it respected as a currency for something other than just illegal activity. When Amazon adopts cryptos, it's all fuking over.

There are other cryptos that are relatively affordable to buy in full, you can get in on those if you fear missing out again.

Has there been a precedent of getting scammed by a cryptocurrency before bitcoin? Did people throw it out because it has failed before like a pump and dump stock or because the old investors didn't understand this new concept?

I threw it out because the only ones touting it were people using it for illegal transactions, and speculation. Now it has spilled over into a legitimate and accepted option of commerce that literally destroys every other option and it's not even close.

Have a gander at overstock.com stock price and find on the chart where they adopted Bitcoin.
