NFL srs. You have to know how to recognize defenses and formations that teams run and know the strengths and weaknesses of certain plays and formations.

F1 driver, you need to know technical details of the car, be able to read telemetry and use about 50 buttons and hundreds of settings on the steering wheel, have to calculate strategy.

Yeah, you will. Chess players are assigned an ELO rating, most people hit an ELO wall and it's surprisingly accurate. Kasparov can essentially plan out an entire game in his head based on a few opening moves, also beat I B M's machine learning supercomputer DeepBlue. Magnus Carlsen is projected to have an IQ of 190-200 (but probably a bit of an autist).

I believe so. I think low IQ player will be stuck using the same strategies / lines of thinking while a GM will instantly come up with a unique solution on the spot. There have been quite a few studies showing that chess players have higher IQs and that chess might actually even boost your IQ. With neural plasticity, I don't see why not tbh.

You have a good point. He doesn't exhibit high intelligence outside of the sport, I think I read the OP as high levels of what is basically extremely high "in sport IQ" like a fight IQ compared to typical IQ.

I’d say hockey or football. Both require reading formations and countering them quickly. Also, certain positions of each obviously have more thinking than others.

mma lighter weight classes. since many guys don't have pure 1 punch KO power they have to set traps. that's the purest form of the sport.

tj dillashaw and demetrious johnson = "smartest" fighters.

there's definitely different types of intelligence btw. i'd say technical mma is pattern recognition and spatial/proprioceptive awareness
