And what is with you and "lateral pulldowns?" No one calls them that but you.
1. It is enough of a compliment. Being told you are "stronger than you look" is enough of a compliment to someone like me, given my fitness journey, so although it has a backhanded nature (you look small for the amount you can lift) it's enough for someone like me who doesn't need to look like a bloated behemoth. And guess what - not everyone lifts for size.

2. And what is with you and your general attitude on this forum? Okay, so I called it a "lateral pulldown" instead of a "lat pulldown".

For someone who tried to tear into Kimm (who by the way, actually helps all new lifters on this forum who show a fairly positive attitude, regardless of their gender) you have a pretty terrible and condescending attitude yourself. But, I forget, I can't toss enough greens your way so there's no need to try to be civil, right?

I'd develop this line of argument further but luckily someone from O35 weighed in:

I'd recommend being a bit more civil in your approach. Inb4 "there was no srs tag" - given your missive earlier in this thread you sound pretty srs to me.

alright, gonna discuss about not being able to do pullups

I couldn't do overhand grip pullups for many many months. I stuck with underhand but that worked a lot of my biceps more than my back. what allowed me to be repping out pullups now (+ weights dangling off my body) was progressive overloading on the lat pulldown machine. srs. contract the back muscles as hard as you can, and treat it like it was a compound lift. guarantee once you also start cutting weight + maintaining lat pulldown strength your pullups should skyrocket

I also heard negatives can help a lot too. Going down very slowly.

Others have also mentioned this in the thread but it is worth repetition. One of the things I see in the gym is people using a lot of body english on the lat pulldown exercise, swinging it back and so on - it looks awful. The form is key, as it always is. Kane said it earlier in the thread - your strength relative to your body weight is pretty important here as well. I can lat pulldown 80% of my body weight with ease, multiple sets for reps, so of course I can do a few pullups. Can't wait to reach weighted pullupsI think sometime early next year at this rate.

In my gym people like to talk a lot and it interferes with my workout. I'm friendly enough but I don't really walk there grin on my face because I like to focus on my workout and not socialize.

Also, it's not always "fun", either. It's hard work and afterwards I feel good but more like calm and at peace. Sometimes people tell me to smile and I do to amuse them and to show I'm not a jerk but I'm mostly in my own zone. I don't really look at other people. I can't really be self conscious, either, because then I'd worry how ridiculous I look when I lift. I can just imagine what it looks like to others. I'm sure it doesn't look pretty. That's why I just ignore the world around me and concentrate on my workout.

If you look otherwise, men tend to get the idea that it's okay to approach you during your workout. Not that I have any problem talking to someone at the gym, it's just that I'm one of those *******s who's there to train and not to socialize.

I see insecure girls at my gym all the time. Like anything, someone needs enough motivation to go to the gym, especially when they're a noob and get that hellish DOMS after the first week.

What's funny is watching insecure girls cope with all the new attention after they achieve butterface/10 status.

A lot of people initiate the pull up with their elbows instead of their shoulders. Not many people pay attention to their technique on pull ups which is a big mistake. I'm around 215 and can do 18 dead hang pull ups no problem (probably 20 on a good day).

Anyone who struggles with pull ups I guarantee just has ****ty technique. Like I said, initiate with shoulders not elbows, keep your core and lower body as tight as you can (for some reason people never do this) and always go for full stretch at the bottom.
