Good question. It won't compute to someone who believes a Satoshi will always be more valuable than a USD/that they will always share a positive correlation. i.e. one cannot go up or down without the other moving in the same direction.

It's just severely bogged down right now by public interest, a lack of public nodes, exchanges getting wrecked by BTC etc. so I wouldn't cast judgement on it right now for that purpose. It's undoubtedly slow as sh*t right now.

On terms of application, I doubt Ripple offers the same IoT functionality that has big business locked in and they occupy different niches.
Sorry i meant ripple more efficient compared to BTC and some of the other alts. Not Iota.

Yeah, Satoshi value is important if BTC going up over time is100% fact. But I use USD, because I don't wanna make assumptions. Different strokes for different folks.

Do I want 2 million dollars next year or XXX Satoshi's ? I'll take the 2 million USD, cause I don't know what a satoshi is worth.

no?

If I'm holding alts while BTC moons, my sat value can tank, while my USD value can stay steady. If all you cared about was USD and you cash out, good for you. If you had maintained your sat value instead of letting it bleed, because "meh, still steady USD value" then you could miss out on massive gains.

If you believe in crypto and the space as a whole then you should be thinking that way. You can take profits and become rich AND be at the forefront of the crypto takeover with all your sats

Make an account on a BTC/ETH fiat gateway exchange and do anything BUT that. Don't take advice from the horde of people that just joined this thread, bought their first .01 BTC last month, and now are altcoin experts.

This thread has become unreadable. What the hell happened. Why is crap being spammed by the same posters that didn't even own a bitcoin until it hit 10K?

Again, you're making the gamblers fallacy that BTC will always be more valuable than the USD or another Alt over infinite time.

Consider this hypothetical scenario: What if you're holding BTC and BTC crashes? Then you're massively down in USD but you're still holding your Satoshi's - what do you do with them then? Do you still care about your satoshi value?

I honestly think it's just preference. There's no right or wrong.
If you truly believe that BTC will 100% go up over time, then you go Satoshi's

If you don't know if BTC will go up over time, then you go USD.

To me sats matter, if alts could directly cash out to fiat then sat wouldn't matter, but since most trading pairs are BTC or ETH your alt value in relation to those is what matters.

That is not the point. The point of measuring in satoshis is that if you make a crypto-crypto trade (almost always denominated in BTC), then you can only be profitable if you come out ahead in sat value. Even if USD value of the alt increases post trade, if the sat value declines you have LOST money as you would have been holding BTC otherwise (or ETH).

Were you trading Alts July-September this year or last winter? If so, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Sats on many alts have declined to March levels while USD value is still considerably higher. Would you call a Summer 2017 trade from BTC to those alts profitable at this point in time? Of course not.

This.

You're gambling that the financial system we have will be as is for an infinite amount of time. You can do both, focus on USD and sats. I choose to focus more on sats. Simple as that

Even in a crypto-crypto situation though, there is no guarantee that in a year ETH won't have a greater USD value than a BTC e.g. if you're using a BTC/ETH trading pair. So it's a question of relative stability to use a crypto-crypto or crypto/USD pair to make your trades. I avoid crypto-crypto trades for this reason and only trade to USD unless it is impossible. Since I consider the USD to be the bottom line figure I'm accumulating and believe it will exhibit less variance over time as a usable commodity, that is what I choose.

It's definitely a matter of personal preference and both sides of the argument do make sense. It is exceeding unlikely a BTC will be worth less than a dollar or another Altcoin.

I used to trade this way. If I had changed philosophies earlier, my crypto portfolio would now be well over $500K more than it is now. Food for thought.

What do you think about IOTA overnight? Seems like it has quite a bit of support at 3.50 so hopefully it hangs on. But if anything like last night it's going to sting in the morning

Absolutely. I'll definitely give it some more thought. On initial perusal though, your projected profits would likely be the result of your satoshi-trading conditions being absolutely correct and true (BTC did continuously go up). In this scenario, satoshi trading is definitely superior.

It is not a given that this will occur indefinitely, however. Thanks for having a reasonable discussion, appreciate it.

I wouldn't trust it. BTChad has bro-raped me overnight plenty of times while holding alts

no but srsly, unless we have strong confirmation that the bullrun is over, you're playing a dangerous game buying alts. especially holding them overnight when the Asian volume kicks in

Been holding Bitcoin the past few days besides a little wtc. I cashed out everything to fiat except the wtc, about 90k.

I started with 25k, got to my peak of 120k at OMG’s ath, went back down to about 45k with the two forks and I was holding alts, now I cashed out 90k.

Gonna sit on the sidelines until I see an opportunity to buy back in

This chit is stressful lol

I think last night was particularly bad because of BTC's push and all altcoins were punished as a result. Now that it's very slowly falling/horizontal, we'll have a much better night unless the founder decides to do something stupid (and lord knows he's prone to doing that i.e. BTC and ETH mudslinging competitions on Twitter).

Once a new wallet is in the wild and we're on some other exchanges.. it's time boyo.
