so many angry people on the sidelines boyos, we making it over here and they barely understand the market but think it's in a bubble because its value has gone up so much, but a 21 million finite supply with billions invested is going to go up in USD very quick.
18k a BTC is not high at all when compared to potential crypto marketshare in a couple years. we haven't even hit 1T of market cap yet. I'll sweat when my grandma knows how to buy and trade it, until then it's still abstract enough to be considered a new market.
only concern I have is BTC dominance being replaced by something else before I can get into the new better token. As a technology Blockchain is going nowhere.

How long do you need to hold it before you sell? Or can you do immediately after purchase?

because if not, hes gonna make a few dollars a year after electricity, the economies of scale for BTC mining are huge now that the chain has mined most of the available coins, the overall difficulty of the blocks is crazy.
the extent of them talking about it is, largely, that they saw it was 20k on the news and were like fuk man i gotta get in on this, most people forget about it when they realize they have to open up a bank account on coin base, and actually click buy on a non tangible asset they don't understand at all, the ones that actually go in on it.. well.. then they get their first dip and the weak hands fall out and they believe it to be the devil currency.
when thinking about the alleged bubble I think we have to consider this is a global endeavor and its overall market cap is still very very small, when bubbles pop the $$ in the industry is usually at ridiculous levels.
I'd imagine the student debt bubble to pop before crypto does. and I would even expect a US recession to prop up crypto as a store of value.

The point is, this is becoming pretty mainstream, and yes, they basically got into it as a "spur of the moment" thing as you correctly guessed.

i remember in college a finance professor told the class, once your neighbor or aunt is telling you about an investment DO NOT INVEST. There was a hysteria about silver years ago if anyone remembers and professor stated how when his neighbor told him she had just invested in silver he knew it was already a bad investment.

bitcoin is in a perpetual bubble, and it has popped many times before, but has always recovered and reached new all time highs.
don't be mad bro, trust me, there is A LOT more fuel in this current bubble, we will hit 40k minimum before it pops and could see as high as 100k. it's not too late for you.
edit: Idk how much you know about bitcoin history but for bitcoins current run to be equal to the 2013 bubble it experienced, it would have to be worth more than $60,000 TODAY. Again, this bubble has a lot of climbing to do before it pops

Hoping my eth and ltc keep rising tho I dropped about $900 between the two last month and now it's at $1400. That's probably the best it will do since I was so late to the game but fuk it I will sit on it for a year and see where it goes.

I feel sorry for people in BTC. I wonder how glued to your phones/ PCs you all are. And when you read about new highs, you can't trade as the exchanges are down. This is savage and should be a clear & present warning sign that this is all a scam.
Best execution is important in such a volatile speculative instrument. You guys may be left holding the bag when the whales sell out.

This is all a bubble driven by nothing, but I srsly don't see how it will break at this point. When it DOES break though, everyone's just going to simultaneously try to cash out and run for the exits. The drop is going to be pretty fukkin dramatic.

No one holds USD for very long because more is constantly being printed and it's purchasing power is constantly diminishing
Right now Gresham's law is in effect - people would rather spend the bad money (USD) and hold onto the good money (BTC). Just as happened historically under a bimetallic standard where people chose to spend their silver and hold their gold.
