Just lol at you being proud to have been kicked out at 22 and now pissed at your parents because you are too much of a low-life to make the decision to grow the phuck up and live on your own. They obviously must be chit parents for rising such a chit kid, take your entitled millennial garbage to reddit and let the adults speak

Lmao brings back memories. My parents kicked me out so many times during high school I can't even count. I'd walk around outside for a few hours, try to crash at friends' place if it gets cold but they all suck so eventually I had to go back home. One time I was so desperate, I called toll line for runaway children or something and stayed the night at a foster home. Half the girls were teens and pregnant, they lock up your stuff as if you're in a prison, no privacy whatsoever so after the night I was like nope, never ending up in a shelter again. Went home, graduated high school, negotiated with my parents to pay for my college education if I get good grades, started working, paying for my own grad school education, and now I'd say i'm doing better than most people my age.

Your son is grown, leave the door open for him but don't baby him, he's an adult he'll find a way to survive. People need to hit rock bottom to change.

tons of ******* advice ITT

This dude doesn't need ya'll to tell him how "chit of a parent" he was. There is no formula to how a kid can and will turn out. I have 3 siblings, we all had the same upbringing, strict, high expectations, etc. I have a sister who is a former crack and ******* addict and was a massively destructive force in our family for years.

All of you saying "he's this way because of your parenting" need to have a nice tall glass of shut the fuk up. You clearly have never been a parent and are immature yourself if you legitimately believe you can control a child's formation simply by imposing "good parenting" on them.

I sincerely feel bad for OP. He's reaching out to get something off of his chest, something he is no doubt struggling with, and he gets 5 pages of "Well you made it this way..."

Yeah, because human beings aren't individuals with free will and choice and all of that...

I'm not sitting here saying he's completely free of responsibility or that he didn't contribute to his child's demeanor, I don't fukking know. For all I know he could have been the best parent in the world. For all I know he could have been an absent father in his kid's life and development.

Fact is he's in a situation and asking for help with life at current face value. He doesn't need a forum full of armchair quarterbacks talking about the past.

OP, I sincerely hope you work things out between you and your son. I don't really have any advice to give, as I'm not really sure what I could say that would help. You know your son better than anyone on this forum, you know the dynamic that exists. If it's clear to you that you cannot impact the current dynamic by yourself or with your wife, perhaps seek outside help? At any rate, I hope the situation turns for the better.

18 is definitely an adult, and the law agrees with me.

Please tell me why an 18 years old man can't fend for himself. Way too old to have mom and dad spoon feed. As a parent, it's hard to imagine abandoning your kid but trust me, he'll thank you in the long run. OP if your son is too dumb to negotiate with you then you can offer to negotiate a deal where you can help him apply for a job or apply to university and if he gets good grades then you can continue to support him financially or get a grant/loan. Give him a deadline as to when he needs to start by.

sounds like OP went to work everyday and let the Public School system and the TV in his house raise his kid.

OP had 18 years to teach his son the value of hard work, morals, ethics.... the higher ideals of integrity, honor, virtue.....

sounds like OP went to work everyday and let the Public School system and the TV in his house raise his kid.

Then he's shocked when his kid is doing drugs to "be cool", and doesn't understand the importance of having life skills.

What about the 18 years before now?

There was no life lessons then?

So for 18 years he gave him zero advice and help but now he is some hero giving LIFE LESSONS? LOL

it seems to me that what pisses you most is he doesn't understand the consequences of taking decisions on his own. which is what everybody at his age is facing.

If his attitude made you kick him out, stick to your grounds, and no need to be pissed yourself, this is the time he learns that his decisions have consequences, and if he decides to swear in your house, well that is the consequence.

Don't listen to all this idiots ITT, nothing is going to harm him. He just needs time to take it all in and understand that it was a direct consequence of his acts.

Another piece of advice, next time you have to do it again, don't do it in a pissed off manner, but do it regardless, that will help you also take good decisions like maybe giving him some money or simply doing it calmly might make him understand and apologize, even maybe change.

Regardless of whether OP contributed to this problem or not, there comes a point in everyone's life when they have to learn that you don't get to mouth off to the people whose house you are living in, without consequences. Age 18 is old enough that parents can and should kick someone out if they refuse to accept that reality. I'm not saying disown them for life but a long walk and having to decide to either crash on a friend's couch or come home and eat humble pie is not the worst thing to ever happen to an adult.

the issue is, 18 year olds are still full of hormones, emotional, aggressive, angsty.....

gotta give them some leeway.... especially since the OP failed as a parent.

Be loving and be smarter.

or...... do like OP and fail to properly raise a child..... and then when the child is 18, get personally offended by his behavior and enter a pissing contest with your seed.
