Lol, who knows, maybe you're right Aragon. Maybe the public forum of educated investors are all just "bitter *******s" and maybe that's why they don't share the same viewpoint as you.

But realize this.. imagine a world where all countries were constantly at war 24/7. Just war.. all the time, every country. One country since the dawn of time has won, every single time. Imagine that country is called X. Other countries come up and say "Hey Country X, you should join us, only reason you won't get on your side is because you're bitter and afraid that we're going to win" but over and over and over the countries fails and deflates. Every time without fail.

That's how index funding is. Math and statistics show that those who use index funds beat out those who pick individual stocks/speculators.. there's always some raging stock and always this loyal fanbase that gets angry when questioned, they think they're in on the true get rich scheme and yet time and time again, as history and facts show, index fund people do the best.

On average. Obviously some people get lucky but on average, indexers are the winners, and this battle of some bubble has happened many, many, many many times with the same sounding people.

It's up to you man.. only saying this so people are aware of what they're doing with their speculating. Who knows.. maybe they do "win" and get lucky. Me? I care about money. I actually want to be rich, I already am and it's proven true to me. So... I'm going to side with math history and stats and go with the winning team. I seriously, SERIOUSLY want nice things in my future know what I mean?

Best of luck to the speculators though brah.. who knows, this could be the history changing thing.

That's all that really matters.

If someone reads what investors think about Bitcoin and they're still OK taking the risk, then there's nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't, but maybe I'm dumber than everyone else.

eh i shouldn't have spoken in absolute, you are right. It's just that there are so many fake news and opinions nowadays i don't know who to believe. Can you give me a background on these posters at boggle heads? who are they, how much they made etc?

I know in the misc crypto thread there are miscers in the 6 figures - 7 figures gain amount right now.

Sort of this. I actually started a bitcoin mine down in venezuela two years ago. I saw the underlying tech as sound ($300 pricing at the time), and saw an opportunity to capitalize on my access to free power. My belief in the underlying tech did not equate to current valuation, or I would have simply purchased the coin and held, not ran a monthly operation aimed at generating USD profit. There are cases to be made for 6 figure valuations, but I never would have thought those prices would come to be on this timeframe. To me that would only have been possible when you could buy a cup of coffee with bitcoin etc.
We are all gunna make it

stfu no you didn't.
You can't ever have that mindset though with investing.

Getting rich via investing is really about removing the emotions, that's one emotion you can't have. At the same time Bitcoin has done really well, tons of other penny stocks have surged and skyrocketed too that you didn't get in on but you're not kicking yourself for missing those right?

Investing is one of those things you should make a plan and just stick to it. Imagine coasting on a freeway at 70mph. Sure, you might see a car pass you at 180mph every once in a while but realize they are going to blow a gasket most of the time and you'll pass them on while they're on the side of the road soon. Just stick to your plan and do the smartest thing, don't get jealous at those who seemed like they got rich quick, there will always be some guy who got rich quicker than you no matter what.

As others have rightly said, only put in what you can afford to lose.

It is gambling, with a very big upside.

You're a mature dude for taking that back, good stuff man. That's hard to do but the smarter people usually can take back their opinion if they made an absolute statement like that, I try to do that too.

Anyway, Bogleheads is one of the most well known investing forums. Think of the misc but for money instead of entertaining/ridiculous things. It's extremely busy actually, really helpful guys over there who just know the world of money and how to make it via investing. They have no real specific niche except for "what works best".

Yeah.. trust me, I'd obviously love to say that I got in at $50/coin and made tons but you simply can't think like that. There's always something like that. I'm being totally genuine when I think it's getting too risky and I'm asking miscers to re-evaluate their gains.

You guys won, careful and don't get too greedy it could hurt you. It's like being up at the casino. Don't stay there, walk out with a smile even though you could have rolled another pair of 7s.

I don't have this mindset. I just laugh hard when bitcoin reached 19k and all these threads on multiple forums. "Oh man I sold my 30 bitcoins at 50 dollars!! I COULD BE RICH"

So annoying.

Same could be said for hundreds of penny stocks that did that... you just can't kick yourself for hindsight thoughts.

Indexers on average get more rich at younger ages than any other type of investing. Plain and simple.

Oh yeah... it's true lol. Nobody should think like that. That's like crying when your lottery ticket didn't won but maybe it could have.. just make a plan and stick to it, remove emotion. Let your emotion come in other parts of life.

It's a bubble. But I feel as long as people can gamble $100 on it, it's not much different than playing the lottery.

OP have you put any money into any crypto?

If not, could you not afford to put even $100 into a crypto and watch the outcome given their potential?

Those two points are facts that have been proven many times, but if you want to speculate on bitcoin good luck man, I mean there's nothing wrong with gambling if you want to do it for fun. We've all done it, just as long as you're fully educated on what most investors think about the current state of it.
You’re speaking on basic market and investing principles as though they’re some type of revelation

Generally people are invested in a roth, index funds and spdrs among other instruments for long-term gains

Anything that’s in bitcoin or any other crypto is most likely money not afraid of risk unless that person got in near its ico and is a career investor

But the investor you’re trying to reach with your thread would need to be a complete novice to have all of their eggs in the crypto basket

I’d wager a lot of the people you’re trying to criticize or extend a seminar to are acctng/fin/econ majors who have been investing for years

haha true. Good post.

But to that last part, let's be honest, this is the misc. I guarantee you there are posters here that wouldreallyhurt their future if the bubble pops because they have a lot invested. I'm making the thread for those guys.

Not the smart person (maybe like you) who has his ducks in a row but just felt like gambling for fun and is OK losing it if it pops.

There are a lot of young guys on this forum and I wouldn't be surprised at all to find those who had 40%, 50%, or even more of their entire portfolio in cryptos.

I remember how it was back in late 1999, we were all young and paper rich, saying "it's different this time, the economy has changed. It's the internets, the old p/e's don't apply because the internet has changed everything." That's basically what these young dopes are saying today about crypto currencies.

BTC ETH and the other 1,000 cryptos are going to get smacked hard. It's gonna be brutal. Far worse than what the indexes experienced in 2000. But, then, they're gonna regroup, and cryptos like ETH are going to soar over the next 20 years. Cryptocurrency truly is the future, but before it becomes that future, big governments have to get involved in it and start basing our new dollars on it. All of this takes awhile. Tradeable futures on the CME are a start. But, mark my words, the smack down is coming. The BEAR is gonna swat this bish ass crypto like he's eating a baby deer.

I'm way too conservative to get into any crypto right now, but if I were someone who had made a decent amount on it, I would likely take out my initial investment and maybe something like 10-20%, and let the rest ride.

Worst case scenario is you keep a decent amount of gains and had a fun ride. Best case is it hits $100k like everyone thinks and you clean up.

It's absolutely gambling at this point, but the upside is good if you've already made your initial back.

It's definitely a bubble.

And despite the blockchain tech being revolutionary, that doesn't change the fact that there's no real basis for why Bitcoin has reached such a staggering price in such a short amount of time.

I mean, the internet was and is HUGE. It literally changed society to this day. But there was still an internet bubble when firms were just hyper-inflating stock prices of any average start-up and VCs were throwing millions at them. I see the same patterns that other people saw with the dotcom bubble back in '99.

But I could be wrong. The fact that everyone is labeling it as a bubble could mean that the price just skyrockets even further. Only the next few months will tell.

Like Dan_S said, Just pull the money out that you invested and keep the rest in if you're getting concerned. That way you've technically didn't lose anything. If you invested $1000 but it's now worth $10k, just take out $1000 worth plus some interest. There...you've saved your initial investment and gained some interest.

John Bogle himself on bitcoin:
“Bitcoin has no underlying rate of return,” said Bogle, 88, who started the first index fund in 1976. “You know bonds have an interest coupon, stocks have earnings and dividends, gold has nothing. There is nothing to support bitcoin except the hope that you will sell it to someone for more than you paid for it.”

It’s “crazy” to invest in the digital asset, he added. “Bitcoin may well go to $20,000 but that won’t prove I’m wrong. When it gets back to $100, we’ll talk.”
just lol @ countering his own point by bringing up gold which has been used as a store of value for centuries
