The higher it goes the more it proves money is worthless, it has to crash eventually.

You don't think it could hit $100?

What about newer crypto's which have technology that makes Bitcoin obsolete? Not only is that possible, I think that's inevitable.

The Japanese exchange at the heart of bitcoin’s recent surge has said its investors are fuelling the cryptocurrency’s feeding frenzy as they buy in with leverage up to 15 times their cash deposit.

Yuzo Kano, chief executive of bitFlyer, said in an interview with the Financial Times that the liquidity on his Tokyo-based exchange — which has an 80 per cent share of bitcoin trading in Japan and 20-30 per cent of the global market — was deep enough to handle even the biggest market movements.

Bitcoin’s meteoric rise continued to shock markets last week as the currency soared another 50 per cent to hit new highs over $17,000. Wild trading saw different prices around the world: while the price was about $16,000 a bitcoin on Friday afternoon in Tokyo, it fell to about $15,000 during the European day.

So you mean litecoin. It is basically like bitcoin but faster and cheaper.

Few things

-Most guys on here are very young/single they can take big risks as they don't have families.
-You honestly only need 5-10% of your portfolio in crypto to reap the benefits... So if you lose it's not that big of deal. And it actually might help lower the volatility of your portfolio since it is pretty much uncorrected to stocks, bonds, oil, gold etc...
-Why get out now? A few years ago it was way more dangerous. All this money isn't going to just vanish. Futures for bitcoin just started and pretty soon we will see an ETF as well.
-The world around you is increasingly become more digital.... Apps, smartphones and ipads it makes sense that everything be stored there as well. Young kids trust this way more than they ever would gold.

I would disagree with almost all of this.

1) Monday (dollars) are already digital and you can keep track of your money via apps and transfer money electronically, the US has a monopoly on the US dollars there's no reason to assume the US will change that. Your last statement doesn't make sense.. money is already digital. In fact, most "money" in the US doesn't exist physically.

2) If you understand compound interest, you'll understand that your younger years are actually the most important to achieving wealth and riches earlier in life. For that exact reason, I'd recommend being smart and doing the right thing when you're young.

3) Why get out now is clearly covered in the many articles and posts on the investing forums I linked in the OP.

However, if somebody did really just want to gamble, I could agree that 5% of your portfolio in crypto isn't going to ruin you. Personally.. myself and most real investors think it's way over inflated and chances are you're throwing away 5% for no gain at this time, but gambling is fun and people like to have fun so you can't stop them. Just read the threads in the OP though before anyone buys in.

I am willing to risk a few months of my salary for the opportunity to shave off five to ten years of my retirement. I do not want to live my life in regret knowing I would have missed on this golden opportunity because I was afraid to take the risk.

I know cryptocurrency is the future.

Lol. The more people keep saying it's a bubble, the less likely it's true.

Bubbles occur when the entire public is blind to the possibility of a bubble; that's why they pop. If no one is buying because they think it's a bubble, then we aren't even close yet.

That's just not realistic man... "a few months" worth of money isn't going to turn into 5 to 10 years shaved off of retirement.

This is what worries me about you guys. It's not really knowledge driving this it's just greed/hype

That's just flat out inaccurate and misleading to the younger guys here. Bitcoin memes are floating around instagram now, it's insanely popular. People are buying it out of greed and speculation right now like mad, the fact that many people who know investors well say it's very bubble-like doesn't mean it's not a bubble..

Only a matter of time until at the very least the US DOJ seizes assets and shuts down the major players like it did with the 3 biggest online poker entities...

...thats my take, and the latter wasn't even a largely Chinese backed currency model in direct competition with the USD.

Currencies need to be regulated to survive. Plain and simple.

So if crypto becomes popular enough, they'll need to regulate it. Then.. it's a digital currency.

Except.. the US government already has digital currency with the USD, with extremely cheap transfer capabilities and very fast speed. Debit card rails, ACH, new Zelle payment rails, and hundreds of thousands of man hours of intelligent people monitoring and regulating the currency so we can all succeed.

I read that people have been taking out home loans for Bitcoin. This is not just tapping equity, bros.

I wonder what banks underwrote such applications for credit. I know people would take out personal unsecured loans and probably a load of banking employees would have taken a punt (since they aren't risk averse in general) with some massive employee discounted loans to fund short term leveraged positions.

My goodness. The current value and volatility is still ok to make money. I only hope the exchanges are robust enough to ensure best execution and transparency with regards to blocking price manipulation attempts.

Just remember, greed is not good. And things eventually normalize FWIW.
"The manlet is a savage beast that knows no moral bound. After falling in disgrace to a manmore, a ravaged manlet would not hesitate to come from behind and land a sucker punch/ swing with a rock to the back of a manmore's head. They are ruthless and you need to spend some more time in the gutter to even begin trying to comprehend what goes on in their minds."

Hearing about my friends buying computers to "mine" bit coins, and the electricity involved, makes me cringe...

...the entire concept of "mining" something virtual when it comes to the stock market is asinine. It's like some stupid RPG game meets real tea.

I'd rather by utility stocks of electric companies in major cities, and reap the benefits of actual tangible goods and services amidst this craze.

You do realize that the guys you think you're making fun of statistically outperform guys like you in every study right...

Lol. Some of you make me scratch my head. You can't act better than guys who use methods that outperform those who pick their own investments every time. Are you trolling or do you really think you're somehow an exception?

Lol not mad. We're talking about investing methods, don't make this about my personal finances or I'll embarrass you.

Anyway.. I wish you knew how ignorant this sounded. Congrats on buying this and having it 3,000% but you're about as impressive as a guy who's way up at the craps table at a casino right now. Bragging only makes you look bad about it. Super happy you made that, just trying to keep you educated.

I'd seriously consider walking away with that giant win if I were you.
