Right there you said we only go to the gym to post on social media and get fuked. Funny that your girlfriend is going to be able to get enjoyment out of lifting , but us here on the Misc are only there to attention whore and have sex.

yeah you are wrong. My comment was addressing the notion of lifting to look good but not be strong. Your interpretation of a point does not make the point.

My gf is the 00.01% who can lift for strength and everythingggg and NOT post on social media because she's a special snowflake but no one here can be a special snowflake except me and my gf cos I say so!!!

You should know it doesn't work that way. If you lift heavy weights, you will get strong as a byproduct. So how would any of us be able to work for aesthetics and not get strong in the process?

But that's not what we pay attention to. That's why you can say my squat sucks. However, in comparison to regular non lifting peasants, I'd still be strong AF.

you literally cannot work to define muscle groups without being stronger. There are different kinds of strengths, sustainability vs. power, but 99% of the time as soon as someone says they lift to look good but not be strong they are full of chit and waste time on machines. Which is more or less what I called out.

Nope. I don't waste time on machines. Actually, I think most of us switch programs. Sometimes we do more of a strength training program to get stronger, and then we switch to more bb oriented program.

It's funny but I was doing a strength training routine recently, and at the gym there's a lady I talk to, and for some reason I told her that "I want to get strong", and she said "why?" I was so shocked I didn't know what to answer.

I guess she was thinking I was trying to get a job that requires strength or something but I was just so surprised someone asking me why I wanted to get strong, that I literally went speechless.

Well Ms. Cass there is a reason why I haven't responded to you yet. I dont lump every female in this category which is the angle of attack others females are pursuing against me. I am calling out BS as I see it, nothing more.

Social media culture? As in, people running about with selfie sticks? Saw that in my gym one morning.

Arses are clearly on trend. Lots of gals want a nice squat booty and lots of gals have one and like showing it. I have nothing against that. But increasingly, I see young women in the squat rack doing some kind of crazy show-off-my-arse squats that are some sort of squat/good morning hybrid. The arse is sticking way out, no depth, no form. I worry they will hurt themselves, and really want to put up a sign in the rack that says "only the floor should see your perineum - it should point down to the floor, with a nice straight back, and keep your head up."

There is nothing wrong with showing off your hard work! But people need to be safe. My better half, Mr Flexy, was about to hit a bench PR today and was mulling over whether I should spot him or film the lift. The only answer: I filmed and the guy beside us gave him the spot. (and yes, he made the lift - yay!)

saw that, I think FLEX often calls for a spot and only fails a lift every 9 years, but I too like the comfort of a spotter just in case

Funny thing is, that if you had worded your post better, I would have agreed with you and I agree with what Lisa said. I'm not into the Insta attention whore squat booty culture. I train my entire body and I'm huge on being proportional. I also don't post gym selfies on social media. So you're barking up the wrong tree here.

I think the problem was he responded that to Melis, who has a really nice overall body, even her back shows the hard word. It's not just booty and nothing else.

While I do train for strength, I've had to check my ego a few times. I keep a notebook & pen journal and write down every set/lift. There have been times, when I just couldn't write that I made the lift if: Mr Flexy spotted me and touched the bar, I hitched the deadlift, etc.

But I confess, the first time I benched 135, it was the longest, crookedest, wonkiest lift ever. But when I finally locked it out, I jumped for joy and wrote it down in my journal with a note that it would never have counted in competition. Somewhere we have a vid of it and it is so funny. We howled laughing.
No drama: You know where we are.
