There are some good things in the movie, but overall it was really disappointing. The first thing is that this and force awakens really makes the original trilogy meaningless. The empire is replaced by the first order, and the rebellion is now called the resistance. I really hoped the last jedi fleshed this out some more, but instead we're truly getting a soft (and ****ty) reboot. Wtf happened between return of the jedi and force awakens? Apparently nothing of any real consequence...

..other than Luke turning into a ****in hobo isolated on an island. I hate what they've done with Luke in the last jedi. He is a ****ing weirdo, and the only explanation we got, was poor flashback.

There was also a ****ton of **** forced into this movie, without any real purpose. For instance, the whole "we have to find a master hacker"-plot was literally pointless. It was a complete waste of time.

Awful incoherent movie. I feel like nothing was accomplished, yet there is no reason for another movie. Extremely pointless. I don’t really care about the SJW crap but wtf was up with Luke? How can they kill Snoke so quickly without any backstory? How can Rey have NO backstory? So, so bad. Movie really dragged on too. I know it’s Star Wars and it’s a different Universe but it just felt so not canon how they added in the Skype calls and teleporting your hologram all over the place. 4/10... have to see it in 3D with my family on Christmas too

It’s really getting annoying hearing all these reports calling all the negative reviews either bots or trolls. They refuse to believe that there are people who don’t like the movie.

But this is another major inconsistency that ruins the movie in retrospect--an example of disney changing preestablished rules that leaves a gaping puss-filled plot hole in all prior star wars.

brb, episode iv, no need for all the bullchit, lets just fly an unmanned fighter jet into the death star at light speed and blow the whole thing up
brb, episode vi, fukk that shield, lets just fly an unmanned battleship into the death star
brb brb brb why not just solve every problem with a hyper speed jump?

Looks like Luke and Snoke were ultimately plot devices and nothing more. I'd like to think Luke will just return as a force ghost.

Rian Johnson wrote the script so the blame is with him and Kathleen Kennedy. I had doubts that the new canon could live up to the Legends EU and my fears have been realized.

Social Media has created an atmosphere of group think where even a new Star Wars movie must, MUST, be loved or surely the people who didn't like it are bots or trolls.

I've been down on Disney Wars since the hype of TFA died down and I realized it was not even close to being as good as anything in the original trilogy yet we were all expected to act like it was.

I don't really care about seeing Last Jedi after hearing about Luke's character being fukced up.

Yeah, it's veering into Transformers level of inconsistency. Bending the rules for physics and reality are fine in sci-fi, so long as they areconsistent-- otherwise it's just cheap fantasy aka terrible writing. You can't introduce game-changing new powers all the time that wouldn't have made any sense with the story told thus far. Apart from the obviously cobbled-together feeling it gives you, it robs the viewer of the tension they ought to feel by the limitations and constraints you were led to believe were in place.

And it works both ways, for the bad guys too. In TFA, the first order had built a "death planet" in no time, ruining the sense of appalling industrial scale that the death stars had built up. So what if a 900km spacecraft was destroyed? We can build a 15000km spacecraft in less than a generation!

And of course, it's totally unreasonable for a Star Wars fan to be disappointed in a movie that had Luke Skywalker acting out of character, get bested by a novice he'd barely trained, and to ultimately die from the exhaustion of astral projection.
I don't think too many people really think they aredirectlypaid off by Disney, more so that external pressures (eg. peer pressure, exclusion from movie critic fraternity, not getting invited back to premieres and feeling important etc.) are influencing their ratings. Which is inevitably going to happen to some extent.

Luke added NOTHING to the story. His character was a complete waste. He might as well have been a janitor on the resistenace ship.

Now that I've had time to think about the movie for a few days, what bothers me the most is that Luke's character is the one getting challenged the most out of all the protagonists in this film, even though he's not the main protagonist. That doesn't make sense to me. He's not supposed to be the true hero of this trilogy. He's been there and done that.

Rey should be the hero, and it's her character that should be tested and tried, pushed to its utmost limits.

By the end of Empire, Luke really fuked up, and he knows he fuked up. By charging in head first and not listening to Yoda, he nearly lost EVERYTHING. Hell, his first instinct is to commit suicide after he realized how bad he messed it all up. He's thinking that his friends are as good as dead, he's no better than Vader, and the Empire is going to rule the galaxy. He failed completely and tried to take his own life because of it, but that failure taught him an important lesson that carried over into ROTJ.

But Rey...what has she learned? She hasn't gone through any meaningful character change in this film. Luke has nothing to teach her. According to Yoda, she can't be taught anything that she doesn't already know. Her confrontation and failure with Kylo doesn't affect her character apart from knowing that she can't trust him...which is what she believed coming into the film. Everything works out for her in the end, and at no point during this movie did she ever truly have her beliefs shaken like Luke did in Empire. In fact, her going to face Kylo and Snoke wasn't even a test because she had a vision that Snoke died and Kylo 'turned'. How is knowing that she's going to win supposed to challenge her character? There's nothing at stake for her, and at this point with only one movie left it's too late to fix it.

I'm actually inclined to believe that Kylo is the real hero because he's the only one with any type of character arc. At least he was mildly interesting this film. Rey is so perfect it's boring.

I've accepted that it's just a movie for kids, aimed and marketed at them so Disney can rake in the $$$.

I think the best way to look at it as far as Luke Skywalker goes, is just to pretend that he is a different character in this film. Because if you try to reconcile where he is in this film and what happens, to his character in the original movies, you'll just be confused because it doesn't add up, and you'll be down on the film because it's terrible writing.

So if you just pretend it's a different person with the same name it makes more sense.

I actually would have liked Finn to be a bit more badass. With his stormtrooper training. He could have been the rebel version of Boba. Constantly taking on Phasma for badass shootouts etc.

So if you just pretend it's a different person with the same name it makes more sense.
Lol, I'm already way down on this film. If I have to pretend a character isn't who they are supposed to be to make sense of it all, I think that makes it even worse.

I actually think the nostalgia factor held this film back. It's like they forgoed storytelling of the new characters in order to get some screentime of the old ones. Like, C3P0, R2, Chewie, and to a lesser extent, Leia, were all pretty useless as characters. They added nothing to the story overall and even took unnecessary screen time from the characters that matter. It was fine in TFA, but two movies heavily based on the nostalgia factor of the originals is too much.

If this last movie has anything going for it, it's that all the old characters are pretty much dead.

Gotta give credit to finally seeing the Imperial Guards in action. That scene was dope. Could have been two minutes longer though.

My main complaints

- I want to know who Snoke was. Regardless of if he's just some guy who taught himself the Darkside and rose up. Tell us that then.

- Where are the other Knigts of Ren?

-These ships run on fuel?????

- Milking alien tits???

- More emo Kylo

- Weak, underdeveloped Luke.

- Fat Asian girl

- Finn and Phasmas lame fight.

- Code breaker who could have broken out of prison the entire time.

And the overall plot being stupid.

The prequels weren't bad.

TPM sucked, but most of attack of clones was good minus Anakin and Padme story, and Revenge of the Sith is up there with the originals.
