Don't forget that what we DO know about Snoke, is that he's ancient (seen the rise and fall of the empire) and that he is a master manipulator.

Y’all also seemed to forget just how much more embarrassing the prequels were
this movie has achieved something that prequels couldnt, lowest prequel audience rating was 57% , this has a 56% rating. So most star wars fans consider this the most embrassing star wars movie.

I actually think the nostalgia factor held this film back. It's like they forgoed storytelling of the new characters in order to get some screentime of the old ones. Like, C3P0, R2, Chewie, and to a lesser extent, Leia, were all pretty useless as characters. They added nothing to the story overall and even took unnecessary screen time from the characters that matter. It was fine in TFA, but two movies heavily based on the nostalgia factor of the originals is too much.

If this last movie has anything going for it, it's that all the old characters are pretty much dead.
But who actually wants to see a movie about a Mary Suewalker that can’t be challenged and an emo cuck as a villain without any of the iconic characters?
Thus, a good man, though a slave, is free; but a wicked man, though a king, is a slave. For he serves, not one man alone, but what is worse, as many masters as he has vices. - Saint Augustine

Why is Finn, the incompetent janitor, even allowed to be with kylo at the beginning of tfa?

And as others have said, it should have been Admiral ackbar to crash into the ship instead of the purple hair feminist. Hes become a cult icon and they just throw him away?

Could it be both luke and a snoke will return in 9? At this point who cares? Even if 9 somehow turns out to be great it doesn't change the fact that this movie was garbage.

Rose And the whole Canto bight master hacker subplot was useless. If diversity is the goal at least give us interesting characters. An Asian bounty hunter, or maybe one of the knights of ren, an officer or soldier from either side. Anything but porkins who does nothing except stop Finn from doing something.

Where are the droids? Why is there Brazilian music playing? Why are there only aliens we haven't seen before? Where are the classic aliens? Why are c3p0 and r2, the original story tellers, not utilized at all? The pacing was terrible. The beginning drags like hell. Why isn't Chewbacca upset? His best friend for 30+ years just died 2 days ago

Every single male character was depicted as being an idiot or weak at some point.

Tfa flashback to the destruction of the Jedi temple shows completely different events then what we are told happened in tlj.

Tldr: worst episode ever

At the very end, Rey and Kylo are connected again by the force. Since Snoke admitted to being the one connecting them, this could be a hint that he's still alive. Hopefully we get Abrams to backpedal over all this garbage in episode 9

The anti anti last Jedi reactions are the most bizarre. Like this article:https://www.polygon.com/2017/12/18/1...es-review-bomb

It's like they can't just accept that ppl genuinely don't like the movie. That there must be some sinister overtone behind the hate. Because this movie was so obviously a "triumph of feminism," they have to imply that anyone who didn't like the movie didn't dislike it based on its merits, but they did so because racism sexism etc. and that 4cHan, the alt right, or fukking Russia is behind the negative reviews.

If Rey were male, she would still be hated. She is boring. She is inexplicably overpowered in every way. There is no conflict or weakness to overcome that makes us care about her story. She already knows everything somehow. But yes, it is true, that all of that, coupled with the fact that there is a very obvious "women are superior to men" msg behind it (see e.g. All of the articles applauding the movie as a triumph of feminism) makes it worse.

there are enough politics going on right now. Ppl just want to enjoy a fukkin space movie--is that too much to ask for?

I am not hard to please. I enjoyed almost every single Transformers except for the latest one. The movie doesnt have to have a whole lot of plot or substance in order for me to enjoy it.

But I did not enjoy The Last Jedi. Movie was straight trash
- No Light Saber action
- Too many dog fight sequences
- Too much screen time wasted on Fin/Rose romance
- Fin Rose Kiss will inevitably lead to Rose Rei jealously later on, which will waste more screen time
- Too much cutesy sht. Way way way too much cutesy sht.
- Rei is good at everything. Shes already the best force user, lightsaber dueliest, pilot, gunner. And all without training. Whats even the point?
- They are making up force abilities now? When did the force allow you to project yourself infront of EVERYBODY and give people physical objects (golden dice)? Yea I know the dice disappeared later but all of this just seem like lazy writing.
- When did Leia become a force user? No mention of any training, build-up, literally came out of nowhere. And what she did was ridiculous, in a bad way. She survived in fking space and goes into a coma right afterwards? This doesnt even make sense in the starwars universe.
- The Fin/Poe/Rose mutiny plot killed everybody and its there fault the rebel alliance was destroyed. They should have been hanged. This also lead into the Fin/Rose romance and this nonsense took up an entire hour
- Snoke....We still dont know who he is.
- Luke didnt train Rei at all. He caught fish....made up some force abilities...that was it

Movie was straight trash. Fking A the movie was trash. Watching this movie reminded me of Maze Runner, which also made no sense.

He dropped the ball. At the end of tfa most fans were talking about 2 things. Who is snoke? Who are reys parents? Snoke is nobody and so is rey. That is terrible story telling

It really sounds like the director just sorta phoned it in. We have The Force Awakens, which is basically A New Hope with a different cast. And now we have The Last Jedi, which is a steaming pile of turd

Yeah thats bullchit and lazy storytelling. It wouldn't be that big of a deal if he wasn't that powerful, but he was clearly, somehow incredibly strong in the force enough so to be a threat to Luke if they had gone toe-to toe. THATS why people want to know who he is.

I saw the movie Last Thursday and every day that goes by, the movie seems chittier and chittier, and no, i'm not going to watch it again in hopes that it gets better.

Its not that, As a poster said already, I liked the freakin' transformer movies. By watching them, I knew what I was getting into and knew what to expect. With TLJ it was as if they intentionally took a chit on the franchise just to spark debates on internet forums like the one we're having now. Rian even said that the outcome of the movie would spark controversy. Its as if he intentionally trolled fans of the series to make it as ridiculous as possible. He came off as a guy that has never seen a star wars movie and just made chit up on the fly. I've read dozens of mock plots that are leaps and bounds better than what we got and those posts were written over the course of 20 minutes off the top of someones head.

Like I said earlier, Disney is using a big franchise to push their liberal feminist agenda on the young generation. It's the culture war and this is one of the Left's biggest moves yet.

The fact that this is the lowest rated star wars movie shows that people are fighting back and it wont be easy for Disney to brainwash everyone.

Expect Disney to double down in the next movie since Leftists always double down. Let's not all rush out to see episode 9 until we know what it is first

Basically, he took it upon himself to re-reboot the series in film 9 by discarding the remaining plot lines from film 7, while also killing off whatever remained of any of the characters/legacy of the first 6 films. SJW Wars going forward is now a blank slate as yet unwritten. The problem with that is that it can't help but piss off the fanbase who expected the films to treat the original characters and story with respect.

This is a sign of a franchise being run by people that have no respect for their audience.

pretty much every movie I see now that is "diverse" it just feels wrong, it feels like they are forcing these actors or actresses on to the film just for the sake of diversity.

I do not have this feeling with old films though, here is a movie with a "diverse" cast. but the diversity of the cast does not even catch my attention because all the characters seem right for their roles.

Diversity isn't the issue. No one cares that the characters aren't white men or that they are female. The movie just sucks. It's ok that rey is a girl, what is not ok is she is the one of the most powerful force users of all time with 5 minutes of training and even within the movie only 2-3 days of training.

Finn could've been a badass do to his imperial training. He would have had an epic moment where he sacrificed himself for the resistance. Instead we get the useless Asian chick saving him. For What? Why is she even in the movie? For the sake of diversity that's why.

Holdo or whatever her name is, is a galactic feminist plain and simple. Poe is depicted as an incompetent fool more than once. Maybe he always was but that's not how he came across in tfa.

These characters just suck and the story sucks. Their race and gender have nothing to do with it.

Btw 3 of those characters I mentioned are white in case you hadn't noticed.

The new Star Wars just seem so oddly casted. It's not only about the diversity. It's like they're trying to prove a point with how progressive they can be that they're not even casting the best possible actors/actresses for the parts.

Female lead is obviously a progressive choice but other than being a bit broly, she fits her role. But can anybody actually say Adam Drive(Kylo Ren) doesn't look like an odd guy? Like there's no reason why he should look like one of the Columbine shooters. He's the son of Solo and Leia. Why did they have to cast such a weirdo?

Then there's the black guy who is still as goofy looking as ever. Still don't know why he's the main male lead. Yeah, it's liberally cliche they decided to go with a black dude, but I wouldn't have minded so much if he at least looked like an alpha. The dude looks like a chubby cosplayer.

Then there's the fat Asian chick. They seriously couldn't be bothered to at least cast a semi-attractive Asian girl. They had to go with the one who looks like a barista? Then there's the female characters with the blue colored hairs. Hehe, you know that was a shot at the anti-SJWs. And of course all the cis-gendered white males who are usually the bad guys in these movies so far. Even in the Rogue movie, the lead heroes were a female and a hispanic male. Come on, this is getting comical.

there had been a problem with "diversity" here the moment the first official trailer came out for TFA, so lets not pretend the anger is only because of the movie. I DO agree that the movie sucks though.

I would actually like to apologize for even commenting, because I feel the focus of the thread should be purely on the skywalker saga being ruined.

It's not diversity for the sake of diversity it's diversity for ticket sales. Star Wars historicaly does terrible in China and S Korea so they added an asian lead for ticket sales. Same goes for the Rei/Fin lead casting. Disney knows Star Wars will sell to white males just off the name, to them it's all about ticket sales and merchandising. How do we get as many people as we can to see the movie? Cater to every demographic. How do we milk the **** out of the franchise? Fill the movie with porgs to sell toys to kids.

I would actually like to apologize for even commenting, because I feel the focus of the thread should be purely on the skywalker saga being ruined.
I remember that and you are right but for the star wars fans Finn being black was never an issue. He's a bumbling fool always being saved by a woman is what makes his character suck. He's an ex storm trooper for crying out loud. He should be a badass. Instead he's there for laughs. No one complained about mace. He's one of the best characters from the prequels. It really is about the story being ruined as you mentioned. Disney could've easily gone away from the Skywalker saga without ruining or killing off every male character.

Good point. It's not really diversity for the sake of it but it's still forced. The Asian chick was useless. If you cut her out what changes?

I, and most people, don't care what race the characters are but at least make them interesting.

Did you like the movie? I enjoyed some parts but overall it was a mess

But maybe the Skywalker saga is being ruined because the filmmakers are focusing on forced diversity instead of telling a good story?

Your actions and your perception of the world are influenced by your focus and ideology. If your ambition is on making the most diverse and politically correct story as possible then you can't also be focused on telling a great story. It's obvious that inclusiveness for the sake of reaching a wide audience (with the higher goal of merchandising to children for the real revenue stream) is the first priority here, so obviously good writing takes a back seat. You can't have both.

Identity politics are behind every bad choice in these movies. Allow me to elaborate:

First off, major complaint: Rey is a Mary-Sue. This one is obvious. They're afraid to show the female lead as being incompetent in any regard because are you saying that women can't be good jedis?! So they give her the strongest force powers in the history of Star Wars right off the bat, along with every other skill there is. This is such a huge mistake that they won't ever be able to recover from it. Franchise instantly ruined, because of diversity.

Next up, Finn, the other lead. We already have a woman so we need a man, welp better make him a black guy cause they're second in the oppression category so it's 'their turn' according to identity politics. But if he's a black guy we can't make him strong or athletic because that's REINFORCING STEREOTYPES. So we gotta make him a weak ass goofball instead to show how diverse we are. Constantly fuking up and being saved by women, this fuking guy is worthless at everything EXCEPT ruining the mood and tension of any scene with poorly delivered and ill-timed quips for comic relief. I rest my case.

Next, we have Rose. Lets include some more women and I guess the asians are up next? Okay great. But we can't make her attractive because that would come across as just throwing in a token asian for fetishizing. WOMEN ARE NOT SEX OBJECTS YOU PIG. Let's make her butt fuking ugly. And lets give her a love story with the main hero because that will make the fat chicks feel better about themselves. WOOH TRIPLE WHAMMY BABY! Nevermind the fact that everyone else hates their whole story arc.

Then there's Poe, who's I guess hispanic/latino or something? Almost white in terms of privilege, and of course male. While sort of alpha, this means that he has to be an idiot. Like most men he is a blunt instrument, useful for one thing (blowing stuff up) but otherwise you have to keep him in check so his 'toxic masculinity' doesn't cause a ruckus. We are shown that he is an insubordinate idiot who's impulsiveness gets a bunch of people killed. Should have listened to the purple-haired feminist, Poe! Women always know better!

Luke: White male. Let's go against his entire established character and turn him into a cynical, child-murdering ******* just like his dad because the white man has had his day. He sort of redeems himself eventually by saving the rebels, but he still has to die because at the end of the day he's still a part of the problem and you can't reform a white man. Fuking cis-whore, good riddance I say!

Purple feminist rebel general Whatserface: This one is self-explanatory. This character came out of nowhere and is the typical SJW archetype. She knows best but doesn't need to explain herself in any way, we are expected to trust her reasoning because she is a Competent Woman with the Right Values (don't blow stuff up, run away like a bitch). She only serves as a mirror to Poe:s Toxic Masculinity to illustrate why women are better leaders. Worthless character who also stole the spotlight from fan favorite Admiral Ackbar.

Now, to the villains. Here is where we fill the rest of our White Male-quota. I don't think this needs a lot of elaborating on. We have Kylo who is an autistic FA-incel who kills his parents. Textbook example of more 'toxic masculinity'. He goes around breaking stuff in a fit of rage and kills everyone all the time.

General Hux is a complete moron, this character is just a joke, doesn't need much explaining. He is the typical modern Hitler-caricature. Angry and destructive but not smart or competent enough to be a real threat to anyone. Another throwaway evil white male.

Forced diversity and bad writing are related because if you put identity politics as the core of your whole worldview then you can't write a natural or compelling story. Everything that happens is for the sole purpose of subverting in your opinion negative stereotypes.

jj abram is not known for concluding stories. He's the master of creating tons of mysteries and letting you figure it out. cloverfield, lost, etc.

Disney had two artists create a painting together. Total stupidity. Trilogies are ONE story split into 3 films.

So now jj takes over with rian killing everything and has to make a shocking story and end it at the same time. next movie will be a snoozer. Rey falling in love/killing Kylo? Yawn.
