There are people who say you should do absolutely everything you can to never have interactions with the police or be where the police are because you never know when it will end you getting injured or shot/killed. This seems to be another piece of evidence they can use in making said argument.

But what can you do when the swat team may show up at your house and shoot you in your doorway after you open the door because some Kali ***got got mad playing COD and gave your address?

Cop said he thought the guy was reaching into his waistband to grab a gun - shot him from across the street is what I gather

The shoot looks pretty bad from the bodycam footage released so far. Cops staged across the street and seemingly not in iminent danger. Guy comes out the door and he does move his hands/arms, but it's not like there is anyone remotely close to him and he was shot pretty darn quick in the series of events. Seemed like more than enough time and distance to be a little more sure of what the guy is doing before plugging him.

It's starting to feel more and more like police showing up, anywhere, any time, increases ones chances of becoming dead, law abiding or not

In the end, it may not go very far for the guy who knowingly gave the dummy address to the guy he was daring to SWAT it . . . but I would guess they'll put him through the procedural wringer at a minimum to make his life a living and financial hell. Although I would guess you could make some kind of accessory charge based on you being the one who started the who chain of events. Similar to you hiring someone to "scare" someone else and they end up getting hurt/killed--you weren't the one who made the call or took the action to hurt the other person, but you set the wheels in motion.

Either way . . . all involved are pathetic dooshbags. Who the eff goes that far over a video game and a $1.50 bet. Good grief.

I think the one who set the wheels in motion here is the one who called 911 and lied, not the guy who just said crap online to another gamer

Damn . . . well, latest from that incident near me is that five deputies were shot and one deputy confirmed killed. Shooter may be dead.

Moving hands/arms towards waistband when the police are there responding to a call where someone has stated that he has just shot his father and is holding his mother and siblings hostage at the address?

The issue with "SWATting" is that the intent is to create an atmosphere wherein the response by the police to deploy a SWAT team is appropriate.

cops know that swatting is a thing, and that arriving at a wrong address happens

cops need to confirm with their own eyes that a threat exists before pulling the trigger

shoot first, ask questions later needs to stop

Sounds like they did confirm the address, and that it was the address that they were told, which is, again, the point of SWATting.

I think the guy should be charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

How threatening is a guy supposedly moving his hand towards his waist when you are sitting behind cover with a rifle trained at his head from across the street

We're looking at this from the perspective of hindsight knowing that the individual was not a threat to himself or anyone else. Cop is assuming that there are multiple potential victims inside the house and at least one person has been killed inside.

I don't think that anyone thought the guy was a threat to the police.

Uh, no. It does not require hindsight to question the imminent threat presented by a person reaching for their waist when you are behind cover across the street with a rifle trained at their head

Shouldn't be killing people based on assumptions.

The guy was not an imminent threat to the officer. That doesn't mean that he wasn't an imminent threat to everyone in the house, which is the point. The use of the word "hostage" by the caller is important.

The fact that there was no evidence of any of that present at the location is more important
