I'm a 28 year old Iranian Armenian (Armenian ethnicity) living in LA, yes I'm a citizen and have been since the age of 11 or something. Before I was born, my parents flew their stable and wealthy life in Iran bc of the Iraq/Iran war with my sister who was 2 at the time. They moved to Spain, had me, then moved to America when I was 2. In Spain my mom would stay home and take care of us while my dad who only spoke Armenian and farsi would work, and eventually learn to speak Spanish fluently. They moved to America where My dad worked as a mechanic (also in Spain) then eventually cab driver most of his life. He tried to go to dental school once my mom basically schooled herself on the English language and landed a job, but halfway through he had to dropout to work more hours again. She couldn't raise us properly and work enough to bring in enough money as my dad worked part time so he can focus on dental school.

They sacrificed their prosperous lives and also let me live under their roof until about 24-25 which was about the time I was ready to move out. I've been working since about 16 and never went to college. I'm a GM of a night club ranked 26th in the world on DJMag Top 100 for you EDM brahs, making almost 6 figures from salary alone. Overtime I've been able to invest bc I didn't pay for rent growing up so now I have a secondary income on top of my salary if anyone was gonna ask. My dad eventually got sick and passed away in March. My mom still works but doesn't make enough to support the cost here in Glendale (city in LA) now that my dad is gone so I help her.

I get what you conservative are preaching, but at the same time you guys need to realize not everyone who grew up poor here are drug addicts or irresponsible idiots just reproducing without any thought process behind it. I'd like to think Americans would be more caring and more helpful towards people like my parents. They incorporated the American culture into their own, became citizens and paid their taxes, all without trying to compromise your beloved nation or its own culture.

I don't really claim any side but I do thnk the conservative side is more logical, but its kinda hard for me to fully commit to their ideologies given my parents situation. I'd like to know what percentage of poor people are like my parents, and what percent are like the irresponsible leeches you guys always attack. Not all poor people are lazy druggies or criminals trying to contribute the bare minimum and leech off society, my parents tried their hardest to become successful and rich. Does that mean that I believe a solution is to tax you more? an American born and raised here is obligated to help someone like my parents through your own pocket? No, but as human beings, it's in our nature to help people and look out for one another, so take it easy brahs, it's not black or white, there are grey areas.

With cases such as California its always a decade down the line you see the real problems occuring from these new policies. Take notes, pictures and videos, store them away and bring them out down the line and then compare.

I don't think Texas will ever be like Cali, but Texas would probably be blue already if not for gerrymandering. IIRC it was a blue state prior to Johnson. Generally the big cities are blue and the rural areas are red.FWIW I think the stereotype of immigrants as "poor lazy leeches" is crap.

This country grew as a place that strong people with a sense of agency moved to with the hope of building a better life. Long way from lazy complacent people.

Probably part of why you get that other stereotype about new immigrants being hard working strivers while later generations have become more entitled.

My problem with illegal immigration is really more a problem with employers taking advantage of people by paying them lower wages due to their illegal status and therefore indirectly lowering wages overall, and a general sense of fairness that everyone should have to respect the process of becoming a legal citizen.

A nation should be sovereign over its borders. We want the hard working strivers, not more free riders.

In a sane world I think that people going on long term government assistance would have to submit to some kind of verifiable birth control (surgery, implant) and we would take in skilled, educated, entrepreneurial people from other countries all day long.

P.S: No idea why we don't have a program already to add doctors in rural areas. Skilled experienced doctor and you want to come the US? Live in a rural area serving the community for 5 years.

Look man, we get that, Americans on the whole have 0 problems with immigrants. Your parents went through the system, and did it through the proper channels and gave you a chance at life as an American Citizen. What 98% of people are talking about is ILLEGAL immigration. I don't know where or by whom the whole "illegal" part gets lost, but no one is complaining about people like your parents that come over here for opportunity and a better chance at life for them and their children and actually pay out taxes and contribute the same way the rest of us have to. The issues come in where illegals come in, idiots (also smart, but feeding the problem) hire them for sub standard wages but don't pay taxes on those wages, and the illegals send 90% of their earnings back to their families and don't contribute or lose 30% of their paycheck.

I'll repeat this for people who think we're all just being racist and xenophobic and stereotyping:

Immigration is not the problem, ILLEGAL immigration is the problem.

The illegals who came to work the fields are too old to work and the young ones wont do it for 10 bucks an hour. Farmers in CA have offered almost 25 an hour and are still short 150k workers. They dont come here to work anymore and instead are demanding drivers licenses, education amd healthcare and who do you think pays for it?

It's already been happening. They are moving to the states of Oregon and Washington.

Washington used to be more conservative than it is now. Really the Seattle area is/was the only liberal area. The Rural areas and Eastern Washington have always been Red.

Now they are trying to pass laws to make Washington more like California. They are going to ruin this state.

How many Californians aren't going to pay taxes this year? That's how this works right? Laws mean nothing anymore I guess.

My parents are Colombian immigrants and went through the system the legal way as well. We are not against immigrants...we are against ILLEGAL immigration. There is a legal way to do things. We don't want to let just everyone in.

I live and work in the suburbs and I think the place is a dump. The state is nice but the people out here are complete garbage. But I guess I'm the problem.

I really want to see things from different perspective...how are they rationalizing these "sanctuary cities" that protect illegal immigrants? To me it's really stupid and borderline treason because they're selling out their own citizens, but I'm curious how people justify it?
