the thing about XRP is there's been no "consolidation". the amount of money that has flown into that has been truly incredible. being around this space, i dont think normie money went from btc to XRP

eth had its run to 400 but then came back down to like 180 i think? but then sat at 300 FOR MONTHS. a long fukin time consolidating. xrp was like 20 cents a few weeks ago?

maybe spent a day or two consolidating but not enough consolidating for how much it has run up

Worst things about XRP right now:

(a) It's causing mass FOMO hysteria, "Bitcoin killer" in the news etc. (b) The FOMO hysteria is based on fake images, lies and a collaborative effort to do so which will encourage other up and coming coins to follow this plan (see IOTA). (c) It's pump is based on a non-existent Coinbase rumor which only exists because of point b and the account of some assh*le on Twitter who's mothers uncle works at Coinbase etc. (d) It's a centralized currency/protocol intended for the banking sector which makes it the exact opposite of Satoshi-following coins (the best kind of coins) (e) Noobs are profiting from it - this should not be allowed, every noob should be getting burned for making a stupid FOMO decision. (f) OG'ers getting in on the action but deriding BCH should hang their heads in shame.

Don't care about much of this tbh. It's definitely a centralized chitcoin. Noobs are making money on every single coin right now. XRP went up less today than 75% of other well-known coins. My entire portfolio outperformed it today besides XBY which went up 150% yesterday and XRB which is consolidating after a 300% run this week/bitgrail and mercatox up to their usual garbage making people unable or not wanting to buy. I still think it's a chitcoin but if a bunch of dumb money wants to buy it, power to them. XRP will only go up in a time where the entire market is going insane. If we enter a bear market it'll be one of the first coins to get destroyed, especially with all the noobs confused it's not going up 10-20% a day anymore.

also shoutout to the 150k TRX I used to have lul

I think you should care because having a centralized banking coin as number 2 and rapidly rising towards BTC goes against everything BTC stands for. If Ripple wins, from 2018 onwards the focus won't be privacy, decentralization, personal ownership etc. It'll be who can make the best coin which some chit South Korean banks can take on so we can all make 3,000% gains in 5 days and buy a lambo. Crypto will never be the same.

As much as I dislike Ripple I don't see it crashing and I mean even if it does it'll still be tens of billions of dollars in market cap... This fuker has pissed on the tree and marked it's territory. It's not going anywhere.

And in all honesty if I were a newbie coming into the space Ripple looks like a great buy.

Second highest market cap so I would deem it an "established" coin and a safer buy than many others.

Great price action recently so I would think I could make more money.

Low price (not that it REALLY matters but psychologically and due to lack of understanding of market cap it's attractive).

SUPER professional website. One of the best for all cryptos.

Great partnerships with huge banks.

etc.

I mean imagine being a newbie or a "normie" and contemplating what to buy. You only have BTC. First you look at Ripple's website for information. Then you look at Linda's. What are you going to buy?
Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.

Brah, crypto is no longer about technology. It is a gold rush where people are trying to get rich and coins that are nothing but whitepapers are worth more than SpaceX. Crypto as it was as a technological niche with big dreams is dead now that it's mainstream.

its definitely about tech.

just more about hype because it hasn't come time to put the tech to use. so people are speculating on whats going to be what. the tech will ultimately win

Every single coin is claiming BIG THINGS EARLY 2018, q1 this q2 that, mainnet testnet, announcements of partnerships, etc. I think it's all smoke and mirrors. There are some coins with legit technology. XRP has a working product, XRB, NEO/ETH, etc. but 90% of them are garbage. I give them a couple months before it turns out they meet none of their promised deadlines and become exit scams. But yes, in the end it'll probably go back to being about the tech.

People have apparently been going against Sats wishes since the inception of the crypto market. Bitcoin wasn't ever supposed to be held, either, I don't believe, but even people like the Winklevoss twins refuse to sell it (or so they say...who knows). People want to make money and whether Ripple owns the majority or not, people don't care as long as the gain is positive.

That goes for pretty much everything at the moment. Even in this thread, people are constantly buying and selling coins just to make more USDT/BTC.

We're still pretty far away from widespread mass adoption that will rival the dollar/euro, so people are still going to need to change back to their respective home currencies anyway, at the moment, yeah?

To me, cryptocurrencies don't exist purely as a peer-to-peer or peer-to-service payment method anymore. The only one's which follow these principles well are BTC, LTC, BCH, XRB, Monero, DigiByte and maybe XLM.

The rest of them, mainly ERC20 tokens are where speculation comes into it. They are not "currencies". It's more of a stock in the technology and the currency is a secondary object not used to pay for day-to-day things. E.g. Civic is an identity theft protection technology, but has a cryptocurrency for some reason. IOTA is for IoT, but has a cryptocurrency for some reason etc etc.

We need to go back to the roots of cryptocurrency. We wanted a currency which is digital, that we control, that has nothing to do with banks. Not play the lottery in a faux stock (token) market.

i agree.. whats more interesting me is it seems a lot of coins have sprung up out of nowhere gaining serious marketcaps more quickly than before..

ADA, XRB, TRON, ICX

tron is another bizarre one to me

XRB, ICX, and ADA are more legit but still moved really quickly

Yeah, but you hold your BTC in a wallet with a private key. It doesn't belong to a bank. When you need the money, you just change it over. It takes control away from banks and other such robbers/thieves.

god dam* ripple holders could get fuked really badly. that is definitely going to happen at some point

i like how on their wiki ripple doesn't use "blockchain" anywhere; it's all fluffy language dancing around it. there's something there
it is built upon a distributed open source Internet protocol, consensus ledger and native cryptocurrency called XRP (ripples)

You have a good point

Lots of people will make a ton of money and lots will get burned chasing the vapourware

But there are some gems in the non-currency cryptos that are forming either platforms (NEO ETH OMG et cetera) or are solid usable smart contracts that solve an immediate problem (REQ).

All this hype and losing/making money is all part of the price discovery process

I think what's most scary and appears to me to be the thoughts behind a lot of skepticism about this market is that it is an ACTUAL MARKET. There aren't huge barriers to entry, there aren't regulations which rig it in favour of one group of people. It's just a global collection of humans acting upon whatever knowledge they have at any moment in expectation of the next.

That's a far cry from modern day sharemarkets and forex markets

finally REQ hit my target for taking out original investment, some free capital to make some gains on moon missions

XRP isn't a crypto/blockchain technically.

Lol @ TRX. What a ridiculous market. So much dumb money now the only option when something spikes is to FOMO in and continue riding in. Nothing consolidates, it just trades sideways for a few days so that's the biggest punishment you get. Ez money I guess.

Ah, okay...my bad, I think I better understand what you're saying. I thought you strictly advocating for things like BTC to be the currency itself -- completely outside of the bank. Like pay your bills in BTC/CC, buy groceries, etc. That would be a great end-game, and that's what I meant about being a long way off, still.
