Watched a personal trainer have his client do flat bench.

He loaded the bar with 215 for the first set. The client couldn't unrack it without help.
The trainer spotted (pulled the bar really) so the dude could grind out three slow reps with miscer form (maximum back arching).

Before the next set, the trainer says that the flat bench bar path needs to be perfectly vertical.

The trainer then added two 25 plates for the next set.

Hard to believe people pay money for this kind of training. He's gunna wreck some backs and shoulders before he's done.

Speaking of gyms, I haven't seen the usual resolution rush at mine. I've only seen a few new faces, in the past it's been hundreds of newbies who show up for three weeks and disappear. They have sh!t gym etiquette and don't know how to use any of the equipment, always glad to see them leave.

Maybe the weather, who knows. Or maybe it's too early.

$2,500? Holy ****. But why? You could buy two brand new VP9's, both with really expensive aftermarket sights/night sights of choice (or just two Tacticals) + around 5,000 rounds of factory new ammo for that money.

as long as they leave me alone, they usually provide some decent entertainment

edit: there's a brand new planet fitness in town so they have gotten the brunt of it

Most of the trainers at my gym are man-bunned, tatted twinks who don't do much other than put people on a treadmill and then take them through a serires of "core strengthening" exercises or their version of "crossfit" (which means taking as much crap off racks as you can and taking up as much space as possible for extended periods).

Saw about 15 new faces when I went on Wednesday. Only 5 or so yesterday.

I've been thinking about switching gyms to more of a club style. But I also kinda don't want to switch right now so that I'm not the new years tard at the new gym lol.

There's a Villa Sport really close to me, but it's also $140/mo for me and the wife. Guess we need to decide if all that extra stuff is worth it - indoor and outdoor pools, spas, classes, basketball court, etc.

I've tried switching to the smaller closer gyms. LA fitness is just so convenient (when it isnt packed like a club) and I've got a crazy grandfathered rate.

Have been considering signing up for maybe some boxing classes, just to pick up something Active for a few weeks. Just feel like all those classes are also Mass produced and I'm not gonna do anything but "Cardio Boxing" lol

Once you get used to laundry service, private locker, toiletries, towels, steam room, dry sauna, no kids running around, etc., it's hard to go back.

I don't know. That's crazy. It has slide cut and milled and recoated, 2 fluted barrels, upgraded trigger, and fiber optic sight. I have no idea what people are charging for the slide work, but I feel like at that price you should have all of that plus the RMR and a suppressor, and then maybe that price is closer to realistic.

But really, jujitsu is the GOAT as far as the conditioning aspect, the relative ease/speed at which you can get proficient, direct application to self defense, etc. Even better if you can find a more "aiki-jitsu" type school where you do the ground work in addition to striking and joint manipulations (also some throws).

Judo is awesome conditioning, but it takes a long time to get good at it and your body gets hit with the planet . . . a lot. You spend a ton of time learning to roll/fall at first--which you need, but the learning curve is a lot slower than jujitsu unless you're a natural with regard to body control/balance/etc.

Thats a reusable cup that says JOY on it boyo. also if you do bjj you can find a great school and check the lineage and pedigree of the professor online etc.

foe me bjj is the goat as well. especially if you have any wrestling experience. but like you said, the application after justa few months is great for self defense. one year of jiu jitsu is enough to mangle the majority of goofball thugs out there and stay safe, despite that being a "just getting your feet wet" period of time for actual jiu jitsu.

lol, I quit LA a couple years back because of my GF's silly membership. She had a membership forever, but it was a single location. I joined when we started dating so I could go there from time to time, but I was paying exactly the same for multi location access. For a while no one at the LA near me cared, but they eventually said something. So when she asked them to wave the $100 initiation fee (lol, why are they even charging a damn "initiation" fee for someone who's been a 4 year customer?) to upgrade her status, there was "nothing they could do". So naturally we both just quit the next day and she got a 24 membership. That extra $100 they were trying to screw us for wound up costing them $720 per year between our combined memberships.

Of course, now I get monthly emails offering $0 sign up fees to renew my membership. lol, get fukked.

slide work is pretty basic. Worth about $350 including RMR cut (if we were doing it)
stippling...god only knows. People charge anywhere from fukin $150 - $400+
barrels - most barrels these days go for $180-$200+ (X2)
Trigger - probably $100-$150
Dawson sights - $75


Pretty easy to see how quickly it adds up. $2,500 is definitely a giant mark up, but it is what it is. $2,000 is probably a much more fair/reasonable price, but... Of course it's only worth it if you're into that kind of thing. As it goes...an item is worth what someone is willing to pay. As hideous as it is, they'll probably sell loads of them.

Ha I make my Cafecito w/ espumita (foamy sugar) every morning by hand. BUSTELO. Only the best boyo. Ussually have another shot at some point in the day whether at the office or after dinner.
But I also make a cup of Folgers every morning which I enjoy with some honey + Half/Half. It's like wine brah, that cheap chit is just as good as the expensive stuff. Unless ur looking for a "Specific" flavor.

I save my snobiness for scotch and beer.

I wrestled for years . . . from about 6th grade through HS. Also took a couple years of Judo before getting into Kempo Jujitsu after college. So all of that really blended well, since that style has a wide mix of techniques and principles. Basically have all the ground work, but we do a ton of striking and joint manipulations--some kicks but it's way more limited vs a Karate or TKD. Also incorporate a bunch of throws, reaps, sweeps, etc.

One of the pitfalls of living in bum fuk nowhere. I would love to take some jujitsu classes but there's no telling how far I would have to drive for that. Probably at least 1 1/2 hours. No thanks.
