I simply don't believe people who post vaugue statements about "household" names without any substance. It's infuriating to some degree also how every comment about ripple and xrapid always seems to exclude XRP.

Ripple has partners for it's FinTech and that why all these household names are involved. it has very little to do with its token and the value of xrp has no bearing on the value of ripple. XRP's entire value exists under the assumption that banks will use XRP, but why the hell would a bank want people speculating on it's settlement currency? - (if anyone can answer this question with a valid criticism I can agree to disagree, but I haven't seen one good argument for it yet.)

that's were I lose long term faith in it. the whole centralized coin thing is also going against everything that crypto is trying to disrupt, seeing ripple succeed kind of sets a precedent for more of it to follow.

it's been great for gains, but some people are actually angry like you insulted their child when you bring up anything negative about their precious mooning opportunity.

I mean the guy is a journalist for NYT, he's well written on digital currencies/written books on it so he wouldn't magic this out of thin air is what you'd expect. Brad, Mr Ripple CEO however has huge incentives to make it seem like more than what it is. i.e. random SK bank does a test transaction, "large south korean banks are planning to use ripple", etc and it gets reported as such. Again, I don't follow Ripple I just hear random tidbits here and there and tend not to believe random rumours and tidbits until they are solid (like Ripple for Coinbase etc. which I've been a huge skeptic of since months). There are also some tweets to the CEO from people asking for the blockchain evidence of a bank transaction, he hasn't replied yet.

my thoughts exactly. I live here and they literally overpay for everything except Soju haha. Even the clothes company Zara charges them like 4x the normal price and Koreans eat that **** up.

Da fuk brah you are a fanboy of an electronic currency... We're all in here trying to make money, and most of us have made money with ripple. If you're really picking sides in some kind of team battle between coins you need to sort out your priorities.

The "hate" comes from the objective fact that Ripple isn't even a cryptocurrency, and it's controlled by a single company and catered to banks. I mean they literally have something like 60% of the tokens, and there are no nodes, it's all pre-mined, so they very much control it. It is quite possibly the most successful scam of all time (convincing people like you this "token" has monetary value).

If you don't see why that's maybe one of the most bat-chit crazy concepts in human history, then I don't know what to tell you. But keep pumping your fist for a cool name and logo brah.

is brand snobbery a culture thing over there? I have a Korean friend who was in the states for awhile and he is such a insta whore showing off all his brand ****, expensive watches, gadgets etc. always premium.

I cant think of another place that is worse. Everyone has LV bags, *****, rolex, etc and they are paying at minimum 2x. But, they pay more to show they have money. Cars, clothes, schools, jewelry, and now crypto apparently.

I think it's a fork of pucci which was very popular on the Misc circa 2006 when pussy was banned (since changed).

he made a digital privacy coin that was used for buying and selling drugs on the deep web. It costs thousands to mine yet, worth tens of thousands. Its supposed to be hid from the government but you end up paying taxes on it anyway. You have to buy it from an exchange or spend thousands of dollars on mining equipment and electricity bills. Its takes more time and effort to get bitcoin and use it, than it is to use fiat. Sounds like a scam to me.

Blockchain is cool though.

They could have burned the keys. Those coins are gone forever.

"satoshi" was one person as was seen on the forums. Talks the same, yada yada. As to coding and conceptualizing... single people can accomplish great feats. But we simply don't know. And I think that was the point.

The restraint from coming forward to claim is pretty incredible though.

You're missing the point I think. I don't think the over-arching "concept" of how these networks work and the incentive structures tied to every participant really has clicked.

Example: Of course you pay taxes on it when you convert back to government money. But if you stay within crypto, there is no efficient way currently to prove you own xyz coins without gigantic invasions of privacy. But - if you want government money. Yeah. You pay taxes.
