Im dead serious. Lee is a phenomenal player but your argument still holds zero merit against shawn lane. He is hands down THE most technically proficient player of all time. You act like incorporating one technique like hybrid picking negates the fact that lee falls short on every other front by a mile in comparison. He isnt even in the same realm as shawn lane.

If you honestly are that hung up on the hybrid picking go look at some classical players or some flamenco players. The right hand technique they use is 10x more complex than anything youll find in any other genre. As a whole Shawn lane and even Guthrie Govan are miles better from a technical standpoint than Lee. Hes amazing for what he is but you have absolutely no clue what youre talking about.

Not just two but hybrid picking you can mimic the sound of the drums,bass and lead.


If there are any truly experienced guitar players here especially in the country realm they will verify.

I know exactly what hybrid picking is. Its a technique like any other. One technique does not make up for the fact that hes worse at every other technique. And oddly enough were two of the most experienced players on this entire board. Ive been playing for 13 years at a pretty advanced level. If you wanna take a look at an advanced technique and doing the work of two take a look at felix martin



Or even this random flamenco player.



Thats more cpmplex then a country lead. Doesnt mean hes better than albert lee as a whole or better than shawn lane, its a technique. Thats all.

I know that. But your whole thing is its complex and allowing him to do separate things at once. The only difference between hybrid picking and finger picking is hes still using a pick while incorporating his free fingers on his right hand to hit separate notes simultanaeously. Hence the name hybrid picking. How long have you been playing guitar for and whats the hardest thing youve mastered though? because it seems like youre really speaking from a limited view point here.

I didn't claim they were best at it, i claimed the technique was harder than hybrid picking, theyre just examples. Every thread i see you post in about music i face palm. You dont know what the fukk your talking about. You speak from the viewpoint of a novice player who has seen 1 thing that wowed him and thinks its the end all be all. If you had any idea how complex one of shawn lanes lead passages were we wouldnt even be having this conversation.

My favorites, not best.

EVH, by a looooooong shot.( and imo the best to ever pick up a guitar)

Jim root- his stuff with stone sour not slipknot, if you watch a live stone sour acoustic vid his little lead melodies are just so tasteful and amazing to me. He is a great guitarist and is wasted on slipknot imo, much like Corey's vocals.

Tony Iomi- saw Sabbath last year and he just blew me away
