She came out on top tbh. Out of the people lauding the hotel, how many are REALLY gonna go book there? Is RockNRollMuscle in post #53 gonna take a trip to Phibsborough because of this? That group of people is probably a spattering of demographics/age groups/etc that the hotel wouldn't even target anyways.

However her audience was likely more inclined to follow her advice since they are followers and invested in her content, which is also beauty/travel/lifestyle inspired. She got millions of views and thousands of new subs.

Not saying it's right or I support her but that's my assessment.

see above. I'm not sure how exposure to a non-specific audience is > getting exponentially higher view and sub growth on youtbe within your target audience. I think the hotel's benefit remains to be seen.

That's probably fair, yeah. No doubt her channel will grow temporarily for whatever that's worth... To be fair, I never made a comparison, I just simply stated the hotel came out better on their own end. They didn't give away free services and got more exposure from this than she would ever have provided for them. I guess they both won. Though, she got her precious little ego slightly hurt apparently. Heaven forbid someone say no to her for once.

so how EXACTLY do you know where each follower, engagement, content impression, etc. is coming from? this is a genuine question because from what I see, most of it is just a guestimation.

basically (and in my opinion, of course), brand awareness is a RESULT of effective keyed advertising/marketing. brand awareness for the sake of brand awareness doesn't work for 99% of the businesses out there (especially those with a limited marketing/advertising budget). all those brands that you see that are now well known are well known because they had a sound advertising strategy in place, knew how to cultivate customers and gained word of mouth / referrals through good business practices. there's also the ones who used effective advertising and coupled that with viral content (brands like dollar shave club, etc.).

but 'brand awareness' by itself does NOTHING (most of the time), especially in the context of social media marketing.

obviously, in the clothing industry, brand awareness is important. but supreme wasn't built around brand awareness. it was actually the opposite. they went for exclusivity and tried to keep their brand out of the mainstream (hence the whole underground skate / graffiti / street culture behind it). it was only when celebrities started rocking it everywhere that it really blew up to become one of the biggest brands.

i think you're just too caught up in the idea of influencer marketing to realize that it's not for everyone (especially this hotel in question because like I said, they'd rather go the publicity route -- which is completely free mind you -- instead of working together with influencers). and yes, i have used influencer marketing successfully for my businesses and my own clients in the past, so i'm not knocking it. i do agree most modern day businesses should incorporate some type of social media strategy into their overall marketing plan.
there are tools out there to literally track anything and everything that happens digitally, which you cannot do with print ads.

i never said influencer marketing should be the SOLE part of a social strategy but it can play great role to supplement it and can work very well if used properly.

i have clients that i do no traditional ad work for, purely social media strategy and content creation.

strategy for advertising and marketing, referrals etc build brand awareness.

you are right supreme wasn't built around brand awareness but they have pivoted themselves to growing. otherwise they would only be in NYC and not brooklyn, LA, japan. which now they do a lot of collaborations with other brands which in return help builds their brand...

influencer marketing isn't for every business, but it shouldn't be ruled out like the misc is trying to do.

no, i definitely get how to track sales. but i'm asking about follower growth, content engagement / impressions, etc. because the other miscer said you can track brand / social media growth

interdasting. i mean, i knew there were tools for most metric tracking (when it comes to hard numbers like sales, clicks, etc) but didnt know they had that for social media and shiiiet. i guess i got some more learning to do lol

i think the biggest problem for most miscers is that they just have a bias against social media in general. there's so many posters here who hate on ******** and IG for no reason other than the whole 'entitled' attitude they cultivate, but jesus christ, social media is amazing for so many businesses out there. like, it's insane what type of targeting you can do on ******** and IG that you can't do with traditional offline advertising unless you do some insane merging-purging.

that and also the fact that we now have access to so many influencers who can legit skyrocket businesses overnight, it's just an incredible time to be a marketer. but yeah, i definitely do agree that influencer marketing is important. it's basically like the new version of joint ventures, except without all the hassles and long wait times for everything to be implemented.

also, regarding supreme, i feel like nowadays they're just trying to push out whatever bull**** they can to see what the hypebeasts eat up lol. it's hilarious seeing the evolution of their products because it's just getting more and more ridiculous. but that's what an established brand can do for you

No you don’t understand how it works, she or someone on her side contacts them first. If I want to go to New Zealand and I want free lodging how are they supposed to know that I want to come to NZ...If a food critic travels to Boston, they or their agent will reach out to restaurants to see if they want the critic to come to their restaurant free of charge to get a review put on their platform.

The owner talking about his staff being paid is irrelevant bc when you do things like this its for exposure/marketing that would bring in more customers and more money.

This is relevant because then they have a more specific customer base that's partial to these reactions. In that case, I'm sure the hotel will have benefited from this, whereas a normal hotel might not have.

I work in media and imo this is short-sightedness from the hotel owner. The cost of a free room in exchange fir exposure to nearly 100,000 potential customers.

Then again, perhaps its a masterstroke as they've now reached far more

i'm all about business man

yes i don't agree with the entitled sl00t, but i do see what she is trying to do. miscers can hate on social all they want but from a business perspective it's great money.

i studied marketing and worked in traditional ad agencies (mcdonald's was my main account) before transitioning to IT Project Management but am leaving this soon since i've decided to start a social media agency catered to restaurants in my city instead. most restaurants you see are probably self ran or hired PR agency which usually does not have a social media department... in result you have a person who is really good at PR but sucks at social being stretched too thin.

She didn't initially do anything wrong, and neither did he. When she played the victim game is when she did do something wrong. Who cares how he said no, he said it. Why make a 20 minute video basically crying over it. And yes he could have been nicer, but take 1 look at that website and tell me you don't expect him to say something like that if he is going to say no. This whole playing the victim is ridiculous "oh no he said I can't stay for free in a rude way". Who cares.

This is all on their home page

Also lol at describing yourself as a "social media influencer" and saying you run your own business while you only post selfies and ass pics on instagram all day.

100% it's like the dad who's jokingly trying to act cool. But that's still the sht she should have seen before asking for a free stay. Definitely don't blame her for taking the shot. It's just the absurdity thinking that someone like that is going to be super polite and then get all worked up when they aren't.

You're not "exposing" anything if people already know about it. Instagram is a known meat market, all she did was try to hustle somebody who wasn't interested.

One more thing, I think who ever this social media influencer is, is being very petty for not paying. Not only is she being silly, but both parties exacerbated the issue.

None of this had to be posted on social media. She didn’t have to make that video. The video was simply made for her to get views. The hotel did not have to post on ********. Both sides are acting childishly for publicity and personal gain.

holy sh*t, she is hideous!! srs, mind blown at how she has all these followers being so ugly

she's wearing tons of makeup in every single picture, probably has fake tits, already done at least one plastic surgery (in her eyes) and is only 22 years old, lmao. By the age of 30 she'll look 100% fake, like plastic... it's kinda sad tbh

people these days are so futile

I don't see anything wrong with what she did. It was worth a shot. The hotel's response was hilarious though.

The owner made a boss move... advertising with this girl will not generate much revenue because they will be teenage girls... whereas this epic takedown of her will appeal to older men who have money to spend while getting much greater exposure than her IG account could ever offer.

She's secretly loving the drama and "victim of bullying" status though. Bet the farm on that!
