The Black population has also grown from immigration, which has been doubling every decade since 1970. Black immigrants represent about 9% of the total black population living in America and then when you add in millions of their offspring, a very sizable chunk of that 42 million are not the decedents of slaves brought here.

Crazy that you are reading the "The Root" in Germany. Anyway, slaves were looked upon as a work force for farmers so it is no surprise than more workers were required to work the fields.
