Have a German Shep/Golden Retriever mix, she's super smart and sooooo much crazy energy. Coat of a golden, but with German shepherd color/markings.

Can't remember ever meeting a German Shepard that wasn't overly aggressive.

Walking through Petco had a full grown Shepherd go bat chit crazy and bark at my 2 year old son. Can recall several instances of Shepherds acting this way towards humans, adults and children, would never trust one.

The German shepherd my family had was the worst out of the three dogs we owned, After the third time she ran away we just let her go.

We rescue and adopt GSD's.

Our latest boy. 18mo. Kept on a balcony for almost most of his young life. When we adopted his rear legs had atrophied so much he could barely walk. Now he has fleshed out. Judging from his color, build and temperment, we think he is 100% west german line.

Our previous GSD was a very sad case. Seized her (and breeding pair) at gun point from a backyard breeder under extremely brutal conditions.
DDR/Czech GSD. She was a specimen. She was a solid 30lbs underweight when we got her. in these photos she was still 20lbs underweight. Athleticism was the greatest Ive ever witnessed in a GSD. She could leap our 6ft fence without touching it. Unfortunately despite extensive rehab (mental and physical) we had to put her down.

I've had a few German Shepherds in the past but Giant (and mini) Schnauzers are the greatest. He's smart as chit. Extremely protective, guards the bathroom door while I'm in there. And also the sweetest dog.

Only the NA line show dogs were bred like that. Thankfully they start penalizing show dogs for the slope and now they are breeding that out. smdh.
There are plenty of west german lines in the US, you just have to find the right breeder.

in.. Have a 2 year old GS... I fuked up big time and never trained him properly though so he can be quite the cheeky kunt sometimes and doesn't listen.. He's not bad inside the house but when I'm walking him he goes apechit over other animals and wants to kill everything he sees... Still love him though, legit my best friend and he does funny chit all the time..

I love Mals, but they are just so much work for the average person. If I had the time, they would be at the top of my list.

That is from poor breeding (not socializing them as puppies) and/or poor training. Unfortunately because they command a high price, you get alot of backyard breeders churning them out for cash.
Their temperament for the most part is particularly balanced just like most working breeds. Wiht our current GSD during a party a toddler grabbed his food bowl while he was eating....no phucks were given.

I have an australian cattle dog and they're the best dogs ever

She's highly intelligent, she can open doors, solve logic puzzles for treats, she has an eagerness to learn, she knows 30+ signs/commands for sign language (shes deaf), she can cover 40 miles a day (she been on horse packing trips with me and cattle drives), she weighs about 40lbs but is scary strong and she has the very real possibility to live to 20 years old (one of the oldest dogs on record was a blue heeler at 29.5 yeas old). They live substantially longer than most dogs their size

heelers are awesome dogs all around with none of this flavor of the month or designer dog BS. Strictly business.



Mine is the darker one in the middle, her sister is the one on the right and the small one is the boss of both of them and she's 13 years old. The two cattle dogs will be 4 in less than 2 weeks

I agree. I wouldn’t consider one until we move somewhere with lots of land, and when I can afford proper OB training. They’re very high strung, but super smart and loyal. Our squadron has a K9 section, so I always see the dogs when I’m working. The GSDs are great, but the Mals just seem like they’re always a step ahead.

my dog has been taught to know his.place. I can take his food bowl from him, children can play with his teeth, he is at the command of a.finger.snap. Problem is, too many people who have them don't have ANY of the ability or time to train them properly. When done right, they are a dream partner.

She's a unit for sure.

But honestly, I love all dogs. Big, small, smart or dumb, dogs are awesome.

I however will always like working dogs the most. Police, military, hunting and farm dogs. They put in the work and I admire that.

My trainer told me (even for a “reject” mal too mellow for work), that I would need to dedicate 3-4hrs a day for structured exercise with the dog. Awesome dogs though, no doubt about it

I think Malamute's and Husky's are the most aesthetic dogs, but not sure I'd own one because of size and shedding.

There's so many cool breeds I'd like to own. Can't decide what I'll get next.

Because Golden Retrievers exist. Nearly as intelligent and look like gods. Insanely good around people and other animals too.

People confuse the silliness of Goldens with stupidity for some reason. They're among the top smartest breeds.

Love malamutes but don't love the long hair and shedding. GSD fall into the same category. Somehow I've always ended up with American Bulldogs. Decent size, intelligent, great protection dogs and never get aggressive unless warranted.

Only thing i can think of is the genetic degradation the breed has suffered over the years. this happens to all pure breeds though.

ima look for a GSD / Doberman mix when i get a dog later.

I always wants a wolf type dog for my own purposes like brb have a valuable addition to your pack rather than a living fluffy doll dog
