At the end of the day no one knows for sure how much we're lifting because they have to cut a hole in the plate before it can go on the bar, no telling how much it actually weighs after that

The average guy is incredibly weak. Tradies have very good forearm strength though...sometimes massive forearms with rest of body skinnyfat.

it's amazing how average football players can bench 225 for like 30 reps
"Powerlifters shout at bodybuilders because bodybuilding produces mountains of muscle tissue with no functional purpose. Strongman competitors look down on powerlifters because there's more to strength than a one-rep max in three lifts performed with a minuscule range of motion. Olympic lifters, if you can find them, get to feel smug because every 4 years, you can turn on the TV at 3 AM and see them compete for gold. And everyone hates on CrossFit."

Yea and even smaller defensive backs and recievers get 15+. McCaffrey got blasted last combine because he only got 10 as a rb, where your average gym goer would kill to get 10 reps of 225.

What kind of weak ass gyms do you guys go to? I see half the males at the gym repping 225lbs on the bench. A lot of them actually using good form too.

Unlike say on the squat, where 90% of people I see are doing slight knee bends. Forget 90 degrees, they barely break 180 degrees. Legit looks like they are bending their knees for a 2-3" range of motion.

Jesus at the estaters....

BRB broke the world record for my age/weight class no biggie. If only I kept lifting...

I started out at 85 lbs @ 135 and 3 months later I was 165 @ 155. Not abnormal for a puberty age teen.

and this. That being said you are probably at a legit gym. I have been at gyms where 2 plates turns heads and also been at gyms were you have 5 people legit benching 4 plates.

I got to a gym occupied by old people and younger kids mostly and I've seen other than me like 5 people do above 225 and only one other can do 315 other than me. Most common people don't care much, even at local LA fitness people barely bench 225

This is the average man. And no they would crush themselves if they tried to bench 185 without months of training

Average guy, not gymgoer? For reps, probably more like 100lbs. Stat I heard that seemed likeliest was 135lbs for 1RM.

Pretty sure I could not have benched 135lbs for even 1 rep on my first visit.

lol, no. I was in good shape when I started lifting in my 20's and could barely bench 95. Seems poverty now after lifting a few years, but non lifters can't put up much weight.

I introduced a friend of mine to the gym. He was 5'11, maybe 190lb, not visibly fat, not muscular, just a big frame. He could not bench 135lb his first day. He responded fast as **** though.

Regular consistent gym goers are practically superhuman compared to the average population. I'd say they the average male goes to the gym occasionally. That makes them practically a nonlifter. I'd be surprised if the average male is repping more than 135.
My gut reaction was to agree. After all these years and regularly seeing brahs come in and bench 225+ I kinda forgot how hard it was to get to 185...I used to think I'd be godmode once I could max it LOL. Bought my 250lbs+ roommate to the gym and he could barely bench 135 so I doubt the non lifters could do 185. Avg lifter definitely.

How tall is he? Unless he's 6'3 I doubt he could rep 405...you know how rappers like to talk, he probably maxes around 315.
