It's an impossible thing to measure accurately - what things would have been like without imperialism. But let's put it like this: why don't we look at:

(i) what the African Union (and the Organization of African Unity before it) has achieved, in terms of improving the quality of life for Africans?
(ii) what significant efforts have been undertaken by any African country to counter extremist radicalization?
(iii) what tangible work has been done on the empowerment of women (this isn't an SJW thing, but more women working means less time having babies at home which helps in places without access to clean water)?
(iv) how much each government (and successive ones) spends on real border control? Africa isn't the Schengen zone, and porous borders well...

All of this within the illegal migration context, and the slavery market in Libya (and elsewhere). Anyone care to tell me that colonialism is entirely responsible for this? Keeping in mind there are other places on the planet where colonialism hit pretty hard, and they have made far more progress. What I'm implying here is roughly applicable to the majority of the continent. Even a beach in the Ivory Coast isn't safe - there are weapons everywhere - you can hire the equivalent of assassins for as much as a dinner costs in NY. And all this is 'imperialism?

Ethiopia was never colonised by a European power yet has remained one of the poorest African nations. Saying Africa's problems today are due to colonialism is absurd. The biggest problem Africa has had developmentally has been its geography. When you've got impassable deserts, unnavigable rivers, few natural ports etc you can't possibly expect to rival other countries that have much more favourable conditions. Isolated peoples lag.

Africa is and was always a victim of migration. The smart people left the country hundret thousand years ago to become europeans. The ones to stay behind just didn't have it.

Africa is literally THE most tribal continent on the planet. More languages spoken per capita than anywhere else. Nowhere is more fragmented yet as you say it's taken as one homogeneous mass.

Japan used to treat south koreans like peasants especially in ww2. And it was also ravaged by war in the 50's with millions dead. It also got aid from USA and other countries. But they actually did something with it

There is a country in Africa where the tradition is that every new king must demolish the palace and rebuild a new one. The dutch happened to land there in the 1920s or 30s and took pictures. The palace was literally a big mud hut. So for hundreds or thousands of years that the kingdom has been around, they never went past huts lol.
