Yea i mostly agree with you, though i dont care about sats.

But if a coin does major volume it can buck the trend.

Not arguing anymore, I'd love to hear this through. But this thread is doing my head in. Not one crypto veteran would ever tell you SATs aren't the most important thing for portfolio gains.

That's a SAT flip ratio. Yes. Is the USD value of VEN at its highest? No.

No **** your sat value increases. Go reread my posts, i said UP in sats DOWN in dollars.

Its not about your sat value not increasing, which btw even perfect USD trading would result in, its about sats increasing in an optimal way.

For example say you had 100k when btc was at 20k, this means you had 5 bitcoins.

BTC is now 10k and you might have made some moves and ended up with 15 bitcoins. Selling at 20k and buying back in now would give you 20 bitcoins.

You are up in sats and pat yourself in the back when the truth was that you are still below optimal by a LOT.

Hes saying because btc is the reserve currency when btc moves either way so do alts

All an alt needs is major volume to counteract it though

It definitely can happen an alt goes up in usd as btc drops

Btc will still prob drop it a bit, but again, volume is the only thing needed

Pretty sure walton is a good example too. Was $48 at its peak as btc had dropped 50%

But yea, btc downward movement then got a hold of it dropping in value

We're making different arguments then.

You made a strawman to an overall USD porftolio gain or less thatstill relates to SATs

if you're in this market longer term - then SAT increase is bar none the most imporant. Though I'm not arguing using USD to BTC for flips to acquire is bad obviously. So using USD in that regard is fine.

I personally look at USD, but if you look at SAT that's fine. Depends on your vision i guess.
If you stash away your coins and look at them again in a year, will you look at the portfolio's USD value, or SAT value?

Conclusion:

When BTC is a bear - use USDs for portfolio performance
When BTC is a bull - use SATs for portfolio performance

I've always looked at USD values. In the end, when I'm taking profits, that's all that matters to me.

The point is that when BTC is on an uptrend I simply know that beating sats is enough for me to be closer to optimal than simply doing nothing. On the otherhand, if btc is downtrending you need to beat sats ENOUGH to offset the rate at which its falling.

This is why its easier to just measure vs sats/gwei/whatever when those coins are trending upwards and just stick to FIAT when theyre correcting

I don't disagree with this statement at all

Very well said, but for holders, that usd performance is still going to reflect your gains when SAT returns. That's all im saying i guess

If I end up being wrong, then I'm sure to be right. If someone wants to step in for you and actually defend your 'point', then I'd be happy to hear it.

In fact I'm messaging a few people now to discuss it more.
First let's establish the fact something I said somewhere must have chapped you vag really good because you just came out insulting me and be a snarky dik off the bat. If you truly want to debate something and have conversation that can be productive, that's not how you do it. I mean you really think most people are going to take the time to explain their points of view when you act like that? Sure time on misc is mostly time wasted, but I'd rather waste it in other ways than arguing with someone on the internet.

If you are being sincere, let's simply start here. Mary invests $100 in crypto, enters FIAT into BTC, then moves that into ALTs. She is currently up in SATs but she moved FIAT in when BTC was 18k, now it's 9k. She needs to withdraw her funds to FIAT now for something. Do you see how her using SATs as a standard of measurement and thinking she is up is not the best thing when she withdraws and actually ends up with less than the $100 she put in?

Not everyone believes BTC is "king" or the "store of value". BTC is only a "store of value" because it failed as a currency.

If you want to cash out in a year, will you set a fiat target(10mil USD), or BTC target?
Pretty much this

This makes sense. To use SATs as a standard of measurement now when BTC is tanking and for all we know could drop down to nothing, just makes no sense to me. Can't cash out in SATs.

- Measuring against BTC is a good way (at this time) to gauge how you're performing within the crypto market space. This is useful given the extreme volatility in USD market cap.
- Measuring against USD is a good way (at this time, and not changing anytime soon) to measure buying power in the real world outside crypto.

BTC wasn't created to be the store of value. They "earned" that distinction being the 1st one and since everything is measured against them. But that doesn't mean a coin is backed by BTC. I think that's just completely wrong brah.

You are thinking as a trader. BTC has never been the thing that backs any coin. There are 2 types of crypto investors, the traders and those who believes in the tech.

Every coin is back by their tech. NOT BTC. Their value is measured versus BTC but not backed by it. Its like a benchmark, a reference to see how a coin is performing in terms of public perception. If every coin is back by BTC, how can you explain the reason why a certain coin is rising in USD while BTC is dipping?

Actually, the term store of value doesn't even technically apply to BTC at this point being this volatile. For one to be called store of value, it has to retain a very stable variance in fluctuations. How can you be a store of value by losing half of your worth?

Again its not about the market cap. I honestly thing no coin is qualified at this point to be a store of value. Whats the use of being a store of value anyway? ETH can be a better trading pair and not be considered a store of value.

Adhere why? I can choose to trade using any pair I want and in the end, my coin will be valued based on the public's perception but can be measured in many ways. Like versus BTC, or LTC or ETH.

If we are in a different reality where XRP surpassed BTC in MC. Would you consider it as a store of value? I wouldn't and I dont really care. Because I will still measure my coins vs a more stable trading pair.

Again, my points are not based from trends or speculations. I give value to a coin and hold them based on their potential as a project/platform. I will be willing to invest more on a new project I believe in even if I had to wait for years for it to take off if I know the possibility of it being adaptable, usable and scale-able is great.

You have to separate your perspective between being a trader vs being an investor because they are not the same.

Youre being a tad short sighted

Hes using it as basis for the market overall

Notice how most alts dropped in $ value while btc has, because btc has dropped

You both have points though. And i honestly dont use sats because i dont like btc. I mean i think its ok, but some alts quash it

Now lets all give each other a bro hug and make some money.

We've had 3 straight days in the red with minimal FUD. Simply from a TA standpoint we are due for green correction, even if it is small. Confirmation will be in about 4-5 hrs when we see Asian's play.

Also, I've been watching the overnight closely for the last several weeks. Asia's participation is minimal to say the least. I'd say 90% of the time, the market is about where we left it when we went to bed. I think it's safe to say the market isn't going to correct until they're back in the game.

With that said, how are we making money in this market? For me, it's being in fiat, waiting for a strong drop, buy the bounce and hop back out at around 5% gain.

I've had a hell of a time buying breakouts and hype. It's happening way too fast and there are too many bag holders trying to exit the market.

Anybody else with some successful strategies?

Short term, yes. But in 6 years when a gallon of milk costs $20, vs 1 sat/gwei/lite, dollar will be less significant.

Notice how most alts dropped in $ value while btc has, because btc has dropped

You both have points though. And i honestly dont use sats because i dont like btc. I mean i think its ok, but some alts quash it
I get what he is doing, and I have no problem with it, a lot of traders use SATs, or ETH for that matter as trading pairs and go off those values. However, my point is to the guy who was evaluating ETH price in USD and Muck dismissed that as it was wortjless. I much rather evaluate ETH right now in USD than BTC which had dropped 50% in two months and is still tanking, there is no stability there, it's not a good measuring stick now IMO. Not that it shouldn't be considered if you think it'll bounce back, but I don't agree with dismissing USD charts by any means.
