Could really help soften the blow if exchanges stopped letting new people into USDT and contacted everyone holding it on exchange and give them a date to get out.

Anyone smart on cryptos answer me why one would want to acquire a charter bank? Isn't the point of cryptos to not use a bank? Could one theororitcally accept MJ payments in the form of their crypto currency and then somehow legally put it into their bank as USD?

Reason I am bearish right now is mostly due to tether in the sense that we don't know if it was printed tether that caused BTC's huge price run since $3-4k. It calls into question - are the prices we have currently totally overvalued? If we had not had tether - would BTC be even close to the price it is now?

That's the main thing. I think crypto will be fine in general, but we don't know if these prices are "legitimate" right now, which means buying right now could be extremely risky. The other "bear markets" we had (June-July 2017, January months, etc.) weren't really bear markets (sans 2014-2015 mt. gox), they were just sell offs which caused panic selling by noobs. There was nothing calling into question the current prices at those times like tether is now.
yeah but tether is only a fraction of the value of BTC. Tether, Bitconnect, and Bitfinex being investigated is a good thing for the future of crypto. You need to shake weak hands and remove market manipulation like tether has done in order to stabilize and grow the cryptocurrency market much stronger for the long-term. Short term will hurt, and people will lose money, but its necessary for the stability of cryptocurrency moving forward. The end of 2017 was such a surreal time to be invested in crypto, that it was due to come down hard, and this is the result. Everything comes back up, it'll just take some time.
If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary

It could be like 20% of the demand behind BTC in this last run if they were printing it out of thin air then buying BTC. I think that's what has people spooked, it could be propping up an artificial demand for btc.
Yup that was me, Here's a quick overview of the 30 coins from January 1st in USD value. I still have WAX that is not included that is around the same as I bought since the app didn't support it at the time so it's roughly +100 on each value's from WAX.

[img]https://i.imgur.com/fWzebMO.png[img]
You have $3,000 spread out between 29 coins? Why on earth would you do that lol.

Not even close to my actual holdings, this is an experiment.
Throwing Darts vs Reading Charts

The Hypothesis โ€“

It is 2018, We are starting to see the general public get interested in blockchain technology. Seeing a massive amount of money flowing in and most money is going towards low priced coins with no thought going into market cap it seems. This leads me to believe that the general public is starting to come into the space and looking for coins that are going to have huge multipliers and they assume this lies in the smaller priced coins versus the higher priced coins. This new money is not putting thought into a coins market cap when investing. My hypothesis is that we will see a bigger percentage gain in lower priced coins vs higher priced coins, regardless of market cap for the first half of 2018.

The Plan โ€“

On January 1st 2018 I will be buying $100 of each of the coins under $1.00 on coin marketcapโ€™s website. There are 30 coins, a total of $3000 has been invested. I assume that we will see the biggest influx of new โ€œdumbโ€ money in the first 2 quarters of 2018 so that is how long I will hold all 30 cryptocurrencies. No selling until Jul 1st 2018.
gonna compare this by quarter, and best part is it's my b-day is also at the start of july so this is my b-day play money.

That's what some people say, but tether's market cap doesn't matter when you think about it. If I print 100M tether as bitfinex, I'm essentially printing $100M USD and buying up bitcoin with it, which causes the price to skyrocket. It's like if I could print real USD and just keep buying up bitcoin - the same thing applies with tether as people are still willing to sell btc for tether.

So for example, if BTC price is $1k, I might go ahead and print 100M tether, buy BTC with it, causing price to skyrocket as sell walls are eaten. The arbitrage occurs on other exchanges until price on all exchanges comes up to equal bitfinex price. Yes $100M isn't that much money compared to BTC's market cap, but buying up BTC with $100M at once will certainly cause the price to skyrocket.

ICX working itself back up after sell the news. Slowly, but steadily for a couple of hours now.

good point. Will be interesting to see what happens with the subpoena. Tether dissolving their relationship with the auditor definitely doesn't look good, and I think it's pretty certain to say they don't have as much in reserves as they claim. Definitely worth paying attention to.

No. EEA consists of companies, corporations, startups who are willing to explore, study and participate in building upon the ethereum blockchain. Together, they are exploring possibilities on how their organization can use and benefit the tech.

Some of them might already have working applications running on the blockchain and some might still be developing. But they are all here to participate.

This has nothing to do with one buying eth or investing in these companies. But knowing what companies supports the platform certainly adds value to ETH.

don't read too much into these "partnerships". they're mostly marketing BS. it's probably a lot of ICX sucking dink and begging for some scraps of attention, then finally getting the most meaningless sign of support and plastering logos of big companies all over their marketing. no hate, they're all doing it and obv just trying to bring credibility to their tech. but don't think a company has made it just cause they drop some big names. maybe when forbes, google, etc., are showing the ICX logo/other altcoin logo on their material it'll actually mean something.

Yeah XLM with a $2T+ marketcap, seems legit. And ripple is going to $10k

I mean I've done auditing in the big 4 before I switched to tax; just because they cut the engagement doesn't mean tether doesn't have the cash. There may be a variety of reasons. We won't really ever know the real reason other than tether's response that Friedman was going too much into detail.

When you think about it too, auditing cash is the easiest thing ever. In fact, it's basically offshored to India now on engagements. With tether you literally would send a bank confirmation to the bank, and the bank will sign and return it either agreeing or disagreeing to the balance presented on tether's balance sheet. I don't even know what else Friedman was trying to do.
