Much of ^ that though has to do with BTC rising in value though. If you'd sold early enough and taken the BTC and bought lower on those dips you'd prob have 3 or 4x your current holding.

ICX brahs, sorry for your loss. But it's a good coin and will be back. NEO and WTC doing the same, along with others.
Could have been a slayer.

ETH is doing pretty well, actually looks like ppl are moving outta btc into eth. Saw a conspiracy on oligarchs from russia selling off btc and pumping it into ETH. I laughed it off but now.. eth has been doing so well past 2 months..

In the scenario you quoted, if the alt coin stayed the same (lets say it was worth .003 of an ETH when you bought it, and it stayed that price), then when you sold it you would get .003 of an ETH, but you'd be up in terms of USD since ETH increased in the meantime. That is exactly how it works, which is why you need to track the ratio instead of the total USD value in Blockfolio.
Easy example: if you invested 1 ETH in a coin and ETH stays at the same value, but your alt doubles in value, you'll get 2 ETH (- fee or w/e) out of it.
Works in the opposite way as well: if you invest 1 ETH in a coin and that coin stagnates while ETH goes bull, you lose out on the ratio. Which is what happened to me with ICX and VEN this week: both are having a massive dip, while ETH recovered quickly. So I won't sell untip my ratio recovers.

Basically the first scenario I presented couples USD to the alt coin. So the gains/losses of the alt coin are reflected in gains losses of USD, and then when you cash out back to BTC or ETH you get the value of that USD as BTC/ETH...how much BTC/ETH you get will depend on the price of BTC/ETH at the time you uncoupled your USD from the alt coin into BTC/ETH.
The second scenario couples BTC/ETH to the alt coin. Since (unlike USD) BTC/ETH is always fluctuating up and down, the value (in terms of USD) of the alt coin fluctuates up and down with it. Now when you cash out from alt coin back to BTC/ETH, the gains losses that the alt coin underwent while you were in it will be reflected in terms of percentage of BTC/ETH. How much you made or lost in terms of USD will be dependent on the current price of BTC/ETH. So if the alt coin increased by 5% but BTC/ETH dropped by the same percentage while it was coupled to the alt then you made no USD.
Hope I explained that well...this is all pretty confusing lol

Alright so I just thought to look at the ETH/BTC pairing on Kucoin:
Current price of ETH as a percentage of BTC: bout .115
Current price of ETH as USD: bout $1,108
So yep .115 of a BTC = the current price of ETH.
So the price of an alt (in terms of % of BTC or ETH) must be constantly being recalculated in real time as BTC or ETH waves up and down. Mindblown.gif
So that means it could appear that the price of the alt was increasing (if you were only looking at price in terms of % of BTC/ETH) but really BTC/ETH could just be dropping.
My apologies if I'm still getting this all wrong haha...

das it ETH, looks like it's finally breaking from the shackles of BTC. The flippening can become a reality if BTC just keeps consolidating this month.

But you could see a good rise off of ETH right now if you are looking to swing trade. Do you have any concern about the effect of BTC breaking 9 could have on ETH and the market as a whole though? Last time BTC broke a big even, 10k, everything tanked hard, including ETH

I have a ton of buy orders sitting below 1k for ETH but just not sure if it'll ever get there again, and I badly want more ETH. Then again, when BTC breaks 9k, panic could ensue like it did when it broke 10k and we might see ETH take another hit, not sure how independent it is at this point although it's looking strong as fawk as BTC bounces around 10k.

Dumped some eth into this: fusion.org
Opened 3mins ago
edit: it's a fair sale so people get proportional tokens based on the total amount of eth invested, and they get the proportional amount of eth returned
