Can someone help me figure something out? On episode 7.

When Quell and Rei are escaping the planet on the ship Takeshi sees it blown up. Wouldn't the mere fact that present day his sister is in the same body tell him something is up? It seems like Rei betrayed them and backed up her body but she wouldn't even have access to that capability without Protectorate help.

I could see her coming back because they recovered her disk and put her in a different body and so Takeshi would be none the wiser. But her still being alive in the same body is off isn't it? Wouldn't Takeshi immediately know that she made a deal? Is this explained later? Am I missing something?

It gets explained later. But if you start questioning his sister's motivations now, you're going to hate the ending. It literally makes no sense why she did what she did. I won't say more than that because I don't want to spoil it for you.

Rei on the show is a composite of a few characters from the book. Notably in the book she isn't his sister - this is a really questionable change since her motives don't make sense now. There was also no love story between Kovacs and Quell.

I haven't read the books, but it's just more evidence as to why show creators should follow their book counterpart as close as possible. When you change something so vital to the story it changes EVERYTHING. Rei's entire motivation is because Kovacs is her sister. Kovacs' entire motivation is because he was in love with Quell. Just follow the source material like LOTR did (not Hobbit because look what happened to the Hobbit when they deviated from Tolkein's material). I don't understand why that's so hard.

Not surprised, as a lot of things on the show simply don't seem to make sense. I just started reading the book, and even the nature of the Envoys seems to be different. In the show, Envoys only refer to the rebel group, and even then that didn't seem to make sense to me.

Yeah in the book the envoys are badass shock troopers that have special training in being resleeved and adapting quickly, so they can be needlecast all over the Galaxy to stomp fools out. Unrelated to Quellism.

Not some fringe anti immortality rebel group.

Show was pretty good until the last few episodes. I think they tried too hard to make it complex and it feels so rushed.

Even before I started reading the book and didn't know about it, it just didn't make much sense. When Takeshi first gets brought out from ice, it gets implied that the Envoys are some kind of modified government super soldiers with top of the line training. Then in the flashbacks, they're shown to be a small group of rebel hippies. It immediately made me think that something was changed, as there was a huge disconnect there.

I didn't know they were books first, gonna check those out. Solid show, but the le rich are evil meme gets old fast and the obsessive sister plot is kinda hard to swallow. Quell is also 100% cringe. Neat universe, I would like more backstory on the Elders they keep mentioning.

I think they did it to make him more heroic/relatable? Kovacs in the books is a brutal super trooper with a lot of blood on his hands. He's not a good or likeable person.
