Or don't forget scoring over 100 points in a basketball game which mean nothing until the last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter, LOL.

All I did was state facts about soccer to try and explain how its so popular to the OP without bringing up football and other sports like everyone seems to be doing.

well I was debating with someone how basketball is arguably easier to play broke than soccer. All you need is a ball, a trash can, and 1 other person

Soccer and basketball have to be up there in low starting costs. But basketball requires concrete/ court. Generally in cities
It would make sense soccer is more prevalent in underdeveloped nations

To suggest soccer is #1 because poor kids in Africa can setup twigs as goal posts in a dirt field....just lol. Fans aren't cheering for the goals, they cheering because there's a net and they don't have to chase the ball down I guess.

Still a fukton more to it soccer though than non-watchers care to admit. And I was once a diehard basketball fan and didn't watch soccer at all. Now it's completely reversed.

The British Empire did more for soccer than two twigs and a field ever did. btw we blow most soccer playing countries out with population.

Obviously alot of people ITT never played football (soccer) with a group of people who knew what they were doing. I don't get why people hate on soccer. It's a real nice and hard sport to play. This is coming from someone who enjoys wathcing and played murican football, rugby and hockey from a young age.

Also disagree about it coming out of england. Id say maybe some of the intricacies/ subtleties known today maybe but old civilizations used to kick severed heads around instead of soccer balls

Soccer = Kick a Ball
Foot'ball'= Throw a "ball", Run A "ball" (ball but not even round)
Baseball= Throw a ball, Catch a Ball, Hit a ball

Can count on 2 hands the number of hard hits in the last 5 years when that used to be the amount in 1 game every. That was the biggest appeal to most people and that's partly why its losing viewers every single year. 45 pts in a game used to be a rarity now its pretty much a given. Soon people are going to be bored watching 5+ TDs every game. Same with basketball.
And 45 points a game is far from a given, highest scoring team was the eagles with a 29 ppg average....and people complained that the nfl was too low scoring compared to college which is when they started changing rules to favor the offense to promote scoring, people complain no matter what, the nfl is still the most popular sport in the Usa so if its supposedly dying what does that say about the nba, nhl and mlb?

Like most things, if you haven't competed in soccer you wouldn't understand the skill level/tactics involved. You wouldn't appreciate how difficult it is to bring down a ball on the side/top of the cleat mid stride, take a touch, and strike the ball/pass. Just lol at "it's just grown men kicking a ball around." Well playing the piano is just pressing a bunch of keys, but that can get pretty challenging...
The beauty of the game is the simplicity of it. Kids living in poverty in Africa can play with a ball made of rags and develop a lot of the skills involved. Somehow Americans managed to turn soccer into a rich kid game as well. "Travel" teams of kids with money competing for scholarships.
