Honestly it kind of irks me that someone like this is lecturing Christians about morality. I don't expect other people, even other Christians to be sexual purists but if people want to say they are so moral then be moral.

lol, yes sin all you want then ask for forgiveness and expect to be ushered into the presence of your Holy God. Yep, Christians are not a unified bunch except when arguing against atheists. lulz. We all have a lot of problems with each others beliefs and even a problem with the absurd way some scrubs in our own faiths incorrectly try to apply their faith. Not that I'm an expert in theology, but salvation of the dead is definitely a nonstandard belief among Christians. After just a few quick google searches, there is little to no biblical textual evidence for this viewpoint, whereas there are plenty for judgment depending on one's life, ending at death

Yes, it is a nonstandard belief. Yet, Jesus himself went and taught the spirits in prison (1 Peter 3:18-20, 1 Peter 4:6). Why would Jesus bother with spirits in prison if our fate was sealed at death? Who would he need to teach in prison except those who did not accept him or know him in life?

Most of all it seems out of character for God who calls himself the Just, Holy, Righteous to condemn people based on no fault of their own, based on circumstance in which He placed them. The teachings are not clearly stated in the bible but there is enough to at least suggest it and the alternative is bewildering IMO.

Yes, everyone is judged based on this life but it is tailored to the law we have in our hearts. Obviously, those who have the teachings of Christ taught to them will be held to a higher standard than those living in the jungle who have never heard of Christ.

Edit: BTW, why does the bible even mention baptisms for the dead. What is the point if their fate is sealed? (1 Corinthians 15:29).

Honestly not sure whether you're being sarcastic or you actually believe I gave up religion to have sex without guilt. Congregational Christians do not preach that sex before marriage is a sin regardless, I was taught about safe sex growing up and that I should have sex because it meant something, not simply for gratification. It should be expressed as two people who love each other engaging in something very powerful. Regardless of my religious beliefs I've always seen sex as something you do with someone you love, not a one night stand.

Sure thing buddy. I am sure you developed a deep connection with each of those 500 women you claimed to have slept with. I'm sure your Catholic father and the so called congregational Christians you speak of find it acceptable. Please tell us more about these high morals you have.

They are highly likely to find religion. Human beings might be hard-wired to prefer life with God.

Something like 70% or more of kids with atheist parents become believers in God.

Christians as a group are not unified when arguing with against atheists IMO. There are open minded Christians who, while they disagree with the atheist position, are not brainwashed into thinking atheists will bring the end of the world. Then there are Christians like you who have been brainwashed into being scared of atheists.

Not our fault if your parents sent you to the wrong schools. The Mesopotamians did indeed have laws and moral codes similar to our own nearly 2000 years before Christ (and very similar to those of early Christianity). To a lesser documented extent so did the earlier Egyptians. The simple fact is that Christianity does not have the stranglehold on law and order and a moral compass that you have been taught that it does.

As you well know, despite any laws in place, despite any moral teachings, some people still do bad things. I've seen atheists and religious people do horrible, terrible things. Even today, here in America, where we have law and order and allegedly a Christian based moral belief system, people on both sides of the aisle still commit heinous crimes so I'm not sure why you'd think similar moral beliefs from several millennia ago would have stopped these crimes.

You seem to think Christians hold the higher ground over atheists. In my life experience no such higher ground exists. There are good people on both "sides". And there are evil pricks on both "sides".

You consider a person who sleeps around a lot to have low morals. Other people don't. What makes your moral value in this regard the right one? You really need to quit with your holier-than-thou attitude - it makes you look desperate.

If the majority of atheists thought like you then I think you would be correct. Unfortunately, I suspect you would be in the minority in an atheist society. I don't necessarily think religion in and of itself makes people better than atheists but as a whole it creates a framework of morality for people to think within and prevents them from going to the extremes unless they reject the religion itself. At least for Christianity it holds true with the exception of those who don't hold their behavior to any standard.

These kinds of debates cause a lot of confusion because it is difficult for people to understand where people are coming from. On one hand I look at atheism and I think in and of itself it logically cannot sustain a society long-term.

This makes it seem like I don't like atheists or I think they are inherently bad which is not the case. Or that I favor religious people as people, most of whom think I am going to hell BTW. That isn't the case either. From a theological point of view I believe we are on this earth to be tested. We make choices and develop into and find out what kind of people we are. God somehow makes sense out of all of it. Yet, if we were to take a snap shot of the people living today and compare that to some point far into the future where God wraps up his plan we would find a lot of people who were atheists ending up in heaven and a lot of Christians ending up separated from God. This is to say there will be a lot of shifting going around as a result of life experiences changing people and our perspectives changing upon death when we see things more clearly. So, for all I know you could have a heart of gold and some other guy who professes to be Christian could be the opposite.

That being said at this point I tend to prefer my presidential candidates to not be atheist unless they have a long and consistent track record of voting the way I think they should. Perhaps I would vote for an Austin Petersen type because I think I can predict his actions. He seems to have a framework within which he thinks (i.e. the constitution) as he seems pretty reasonable about it.

I'm not sure if I am explaining myself well enough because there are a lot of nuances and it isn't like atheists bad, Christians good.

That’s a stupid question. I’m sure others wouldn’t teach their kids that sleeping around is an okay thing to do. However, teaching kids that sex is a natural part of human existence and has consequences, both good and bad, as well as the necessity of practicing safe sex should be cornerstones of parental guidance on sex, IMO.

Leave the Bible, which does nothing but throw shade and humiliation on human sexuality, out of it.

Instead of teaching kids to or not to “sleep around” inform them of the consequences, and the possible emotional repercussions of promiscuity without implying guilt. Don’t make them afraid of sex.
Edit: don’t think I’ve mentioned in my few other posts ITT, but I am a father and a step father - the wife and I agree on all of the principles I’ve laid out above. I am a former Christian (Lutheran, to be exact), and she is a former Mormon.

This goes right back to your lack of reading comprehension. Please point out where I said it was okay (or not okay for that matter). You should take a moment to actually understand what people write instead of just responding with the the first thought that pops into your brain.
