This was also yesterday, at the public schools about 20 minutes from where I work and 10 minutes from the school my nieces attend.

The 14-year-old was on active probation for a previous felony theft charge.

According to the report, the student is a half-day student and typically leaves the school around 11:30 a.m., but is known to the school resource officer and other staff to have “some behavioral issues.”

The student returned to the school and was spotted looking through classroom windows, the report said.

Mass shootings in the States are such a blip in the death toll compared to other accidental deaths, drug deaths, illness etc., that I think it's just something that needs to be expected in a modern society with massive population. With the gun laws, the cat is kind of already out of the bag, too many guns in circulation already. If someone wants a gun, even if they are made illegal, i'm sure it will be pretty easy to procure one despite gun laws. If you're nuts enough to shoot up a school, you're nuts enough to acquire a gun by any means necessary.

That being said, more strict gun laws would likely deter retards like the FLA shooter as he's probably too stupid to acquire an AR otherwise. He's mos def doing alot less damage if he can only get his hands on a hand gun.

Not sure why people can't debate peacefully in here without resorting to name calling etc... just makes you look heated / defensive / ignorant. It's ok to have different opinions.

How about Eurobrahs and ANZACbrahs lecturing Americabrahs about 1) U.S. gun laws, 2) our constitution, and 3) how we should solve our law & order problems.

Quick question, could you ever fight back if your government ever fully turned on you and your fellow citizens?

Men are, always have been, and always will be more violent than women.

Look at all of human history, all times, all countries, everywhere...the ones who commit acts of violence and kill are very disproportionately male.

How many defensive gun uses do you guys have each year?

How many police officers get injured or killed each year because they can't handle a suspect with a knife, even if there are like 20 officers on scene?

BTW, the term "police state" is the term that it is for a reason.

But hey, when some soldiers come along and round people up to put them on train cars or line them up along a ditch to shoot in the back of the head, there's no way anybody with a gun could possibly fight back because there's a fighter jet over there a few miles away somewhere and an aircraft carrier out in the gulf

Probably already been said but I'm not reading 1,100 posts to find out.

The guy was obviously mentally disturbed but I think he was another ER forever alone type that wanted to destroy other people and give himself a sense that he has power in this world when really he was just another average expendable male without a purpose in life and without a woman and that's why he chose Valentine's Day to do this.

What do you mean if my Government turned on me - can you explain how that would even be possible?

And you are saying that if the president and the rest of the government decided to turn on you and invade your property, you could just kill him with a gun and carry on with your life?

I don't see how having a gun to defend yourself from the government is relevant in this day and age.

If it is a rogue govt and they are gonna kill you anyways you wouldnt want to take down a few soldiers in the process? Lets be perfectly honest though. At this point I cant see that happening anyways. If the govt legit turned on the population the military would most likely overthrow the govt. The issue is if they get to the point where they have robot soldiers and ai controlled vehicles that could be programmed to just do what they told.

And you are saying that if the president and the rest of the government decided to turn on you and invade your property, you could just kill him with a gun and carry on with your life?

I don't see how having a gun to defend yourself from the government is relevant in this day and age.
This isn't Australia. What you don't know about our constitution and why we are able to bare arms can probably fill a fuking book. Please, just stop.

I'm a pro-gun republican however I do admit that there should be some changes made. I don't believe people should lose their rights to own guns. I do think that there should be stricter background checks and mental health checks to help eliminate guns getting into the hands of bad people.

I also believe that there should be strict laws that state if one of your guns is used to kill then you are held liable for those actions.

This way if you're mentally stable, not a criminal, and can secure your firearms you should have nothing to worry about.

I don't have all the answers and don't know what would work. However I do think that people on the extreme left (gun grabbers) and people on the extreme right (we don't need to change anything) are both idiots.

You're doing exactly what I figured you'd do - not answer the question and ask for meaningless specifics as a way to discredit the simple task of answering a simple yes or no question

I don't think my government is going to turn on me any time soon, but that doesn't mean that they won't or that they don't have the power to do so. Governments as a whole are becoming a LOT more authoritarian as time is progressing, that should be pretty obvious. To believe that at some point in the future that it won't happen is naive. It has happened in the past, history does in fact repeat itself. That is something you can count on. Everything builds up to a breaking point and then it resets. I mean, look at nearly every revolution for practically every country that has ever had one.

So, just answer the question. Could you ever fight back against a tyrannical government or entity, be it yours or foreign, if it was to ever happen? It's happened here before and we set fourth rules to help safe guard future civilians.

Also, you implied that having rifles vs jets is futile. Do you even Stallingrad? I know you'd rather just lay in the dirt, like a coward, but I wouldn't. But I feel for you, because that's your only option.
