I agree. It can be terrifying even if you're aware what it is, not to mention if you have no idea about it.

I'm genuinely not sure whether people are being 100% honest about this. I used to have sleep paralysis on a weekly basis, though it's been nearly a year since the last time. I briefly experienced lucid dreaming, but the longest it lasted was about 10 seconds before I realized it was a dream and couldn't stop myself from waking up. I tried "spinning" in the dream, which is "supposed" to help. It didn't do anything to prolong it. Occasionally, in a dream I've been able to look in mirrors, which is startling since my face always appears disfigured. Stopped trying a while ago as I didn't have much success. Even, briefly, kept a dream journal.

Inb4 lucid dream pills. Would be amazing if they could figure out how to consistently do this in a way you could get like training done such as training to get better at a hobby etc

Haven’t had a lucid dream in at least a year unfortunately not sure why.

It's not as easy as some people make it out to be, that's for sure. And the whole "I have it on a regular basis spontaneously" is something I find very hard to believe. There are also people who think they have lucid dreams until they experience a real one.

Now, regarding your own experience. Spinning doesn'talwayswork, but it also works plenty of times.

LaBerge's book really lays it all out. It's not a simple subject at all.

I had some really vivid dreams for the past months. I don't really enjoy them, they leave me kinda ****ed up when I wake up. I'm like "woaaah dude, did I really just dream this ****? Damn, what the **** is wrong with me?"

So much for vivid dreams atleast. I had some lucid dreaming moments, but they were not as satisfying as some make them out to be. Everything feels weirdly restricted, like flying and sex.

Your dreams get better with practice. I have been lucid dreaming for years (see sig) but some nights will be better than others. I've had dreams where I just can't seem to get the same control. But when you get it right, it is amazing.

But it doesn't work on its own. You still have to practice LD induction techniques.

Yes. It's also important to note that you can have high lucidity but not enough dream control, meaning you can't fly, walk through walls, etc.

You can also have lots of dream control but your level of lucidity is weak, for example you are afraid you'll get "hurt", or you are thinking other dream characters are real people in the dream with you, etc.

Lucid dreaming only works for stupid chit. I can never summon an HBB to bang. Maybe I get too excited or something, I always wake up immediately.

The HBB thing works, it just needs practice.

It is very difficult to make a character or object just materialize in front of you, because your mind doesn't expect that to be possible. Instead you need to cheat. For example, stand behind a door and try to fully expect that person or object to be in that room when you open door, and even say it out loud: when I open this door I'll see [fill in the blanks]. Another option is to ask another dream character to help you find [fill in the blanks].

To be clear, it's also possible to make things materialize in front of you, but very difficult.

Best way to trigger lucid dreaming for me is by sleeping on my back. It's nearly impossible for me to fall asleep on my back so when I do fall asleep my mind is still alert/awake, but my body isn't. Weird state, but it works everytime.

be careful brahs you play with this chit you can be opening yourself to evil entities out there who may try to take over your body (srs). dont fk with this chit its not of God it is of the devil and the spirit realm which we are not ready to reach yet.

this type of stuff can really effect you in a very negative way. lucid dreaming is your soul and spirit entering a different level of consiousness, this is a world in which other energys and spirits and demons have access to and you CAN be fked with and followed back to where your body/vessel is.

Definitely have had many of them, but I don't like them mainly because I don't feel rested after waking up. I don't mind if I didn't have any important that day, but often times I do. Otherwise, it's freaking amazing being in control like that. You just feel so sad when you wake up.

Used to be pretty good at it, but now that I have a young kid, normal sleep is hard enough to get.

I guess I'm a perv though cuz EVERY SINGLE TIME I've ever done it, I had the whole world at my finger tips, and the only thing I'm doing is bending over HBBS.

I’ve had dreams of lucid dreams. For example, dreams where I’d suddenly think “oh chit, I’m dreaming!” And try to conjure up a oneitis or something, but it wouldn’t work and I’d wake up. One time there was a raptor banging on my door and I thought “chit, I’m dreaming, I gotta conjure up a weapon!” and some dude sitting in the kitchen reading a newspaper told me not to bother with “that lucid dreaming stuff.”

I don’t think I’ve ever had an actual lucid dream though.

Question: once you become lucid, how real does it feel? I can’t imagine it ever being like Inception or some chit considering the dream world is conjured up entirely by your brain so it’s only going to show you just enough that you’d accept things and it would all make sense. I highly doubt your brain would care much for attention to detail. So how detailed is it, exactly? Could you, say, examine individual blades of grass? Or does it have the hazy, foggy quality of a memory or a non-lucid dream where you only get the gist of a situation?

EDIT: I’m guessing that the dream world would be procedurally generated, so things would only come into existence as needed. If you wanted to examine blades of grass, then your brain would conjure up blades of grass, but that detail wouldn’t have been there until you chose to observe it.

EDIT #2: On the other hand, our field of vision in waking life is limited and narrower than we think and our brains just fill in the blanks. Perception is reality to a large extent and that perception can be affected by all sorts of things. So maybe without having to interpret outside data or actually see things, the brain has less constraints.

Had a wicked afternoon nap/sex coma today and actually dreamed that I was lucid dreaming, but was not. I kept "waking" into another dream level, but not actually waking up. I was actually thinking about this thread and trying to spin around, but in the faux-lucid dream level I was riding in a pickup with 2 women (not sexy) and there was no room to spin. LMAO. But at least it proves that these thoughts are working their way into my dreams.

I find this really interesting. Has nothing to do with being lucid or not. Supposedly IRL a large portion of your brain power goes into mapping the space around you. A dream would be no different, except that you have to create the space from nothing rather than perceive it and then recreate it. In one non-lucid dream, I went into a store and the shelves were loaded with hundreds of items. IRL, the same thing happens. You register 'hundreds of items' but you don't know what any of them are unless you've been there before or recognize the labels from a distance. I'm sure if I had looked closely in the dream, the nondescript items would have morphed into specific things, just like IRL when you examine something more closely. The difference being obviously those specific things are not predetermined by the stock boy who put them there, and they are likely to change randomly.

Go lucid very occasionally, can’t remember my dreams most of the time. Lucid dreaming feels like a balancing act between a sleeping and waking state so really hard to stay in.

Put off now tho when brahs talk about the dudes with white hair - are you guys for real?

Dreams scare me. I have had a few lucid dreams and they are eerie. When I nap during the day which is almost never, I seem to have like, a panic attack where my heart starts racing. Just weird stuff.

One time I had the same dream as my brother when I was a kid and we lived in the same house. Creepy as hell. I really wonder if dreams are on some other weird plane or at least, on some strange frequency. Somehow my brothers and my own linked up. Its strange strange stuff. The only time I felt anything like that while awake is one time when I got really high. It was a very bad experience and I never got high again lol. The mind is a powerful, terrifying thing.

Had a period where I would become lucid during a dream 2 or more nights a week.

Typically always practiced flight. Which trying to remember always involved multiple attempted "take offs" before flying. And flying was more of a long swooping over landscape type of deal before landing.

It feels realer than life, that's the scary part. I was lucid dreaming the other night and I thought to myself, "how is this a dream right now? Everything is so real....I know my eyes are closed right now and my head is on the pillow, but I don't feel anything". All my dreams are becoming lucid, I wake up and I'm convinced I'm living in a parallel universe cause of how real this chit feels. Anytime I lucid dream about someone (friend, person I haven't seen since HS, former crush, etc) I can't stop thinking about them for the entire day. It's like I'm incepting myself.
"They'll tell you failure is not an option. That is ridiculous. Failure is always an option. Failure is the most readily available option at all times, but it's a choice.
