President Trump on Wednesday voiced support for confiscating guns from certain dangerous individuals, even if it violates due process rights.
“I like taking the guns early like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida ... to go to court would have taken a long time,” Trump said at a meeting with lawmakers on school safety and gun violence.
“Take the guns first, go through due process second,” Trump said.
Trump was responding to comments from Vice President Pence that families and local law enforcement should have more tools to report potentially dangerous individuals with weapons.
“Allow due process so no one’s rights are trampled, but the ability to go to court, obtain an order and then collect not only the firearms but any weapons,” Pence said.
"Or, Mike, take the firearms first, and then go to court," Trump responded.

I know its gonna be unpopular amongst the 2A die hard community. But something needs to be done to take guns away from people who have "fallen thru the cracks" of our system.

in CA?
nope nope nope - I see this being similar to the TSA no fly list - you're pretty much screwed forever bc nobody wants to be the one to let you fly again - or in this case buy/own a gun again

Almost EVERYONE agrees that there are mentally incompetent people that should not be allowed to own guns (or run free for that matter)
The issue is how those people are determined.
Who the burden of proof is ON.
What constitutes "incapable".
The reason gun owners can't give up the mental card is because liberals will use it to include various conditions that sound good in theory, but are really lies. (Depression, anti-social behaviors, any form of ptsd, ect)

Thing is, Trump is not a constitutionalist, worse... he knows nothing about laws. He a populist who surrounds himself with people that do the thinking for him, and unfortunately, this sets him as a puppet. I seen parts of the footage on the "bi-partisan gun talk, and Dianne Feinstein, who was sitting right next to him, looked as giddy as a school girl as Trump was taking what he think is a "popular view on guns". I **** you not.
Trump could be the worse thing for gun rights. He taunted others in the room "You're afraid of the NRA" like a class clown, already swore EO on bumbstocks, doesn't give a flying phuck on due process (or even understands it), wants to raise min age to buy a gun because eff rights.
At least Obama understood the Constitution, understood rights, and laws. Yeah, he pushed, but didn't do anything close to what Trump is proposing.

I see where there is great concern for gun owners right now, but I think this will end up like DACA. Trump says let's do something and the dems draft up a bill that is a piece of shyt and then trump turns it down and says "hey I tried".
We, just like the NRA, have been overrun with commies.
Everybody now is "I own guns but [let's take away Rights]" and "I support the 2A but [I don't]"
I think you are dying on principle and not taking into account that you need to play the popular support game...
We both know gun control attempts are just followed up with more gun control attempts.
However, laws are passed and presidents are elected by vote. There are not enough PURE gun support people to retain these rights.
Thus we are forced to carefully chose what cards we play to get the sway-able people on our side.
The NRA isn't giving up chit willy nilly. Bump stocks serve virtually no purpose and I don't know a single gun guy that uses one... Thus if you are able to give up a hair to convert a high enough population you have given up very little to preserve rights for a longer period.

Example already put forward, and you know all the others across the country are taking notes
"Requires firearm registrations to be renewed every five years. Restricts possession, transfer, and acquisition of bump stocks, gat cranks, lighter trigger-pull mechanisms, flash suppressors, and overheat reduction modifications."
Next step, all trigger upgrades, swaps, or modifications will be illegal. Then mandatory minimum trigger pull weights and travel. You'll be begging for an old school stock gritty creepy USGI AR trigger that weighs 7 lbs

Ben Shapiro's reaction (more plus videos at the link)
https://www.dailywire.com/news/27706...iro#exit-modal
This is all disgraceful nonsense.
The Constitution guarantees due process. Trump can’t waive it, and to suggest that we simply ignore due process in order to seize guns is both fascistic and idiotic. If Obama had done the same, Republicans would have started drawing up articles of impeachment. Nearly as stupid is Trump handing Democrats a propaganda victory by tearing into fellow Republicans as tools of the NRA. The NRA never should have allowed itself to become a Trump-centric organization — and this shows just why. Trump cannot be trusted to have their backs, since he’s too busy patting his own.
The only comfort here is that Trump has said similarly doltish things before in front of Democrats, and his own party has constrained him. During the immigration debate, for example, he stunned Democrats by stating publicly that he wanted a clean DACA bill that wouldn’t include border security; he had to be tut-tutted by House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).
So yes, this is Trump just mouthing off. But it proves once again that on matters of governing philosophy, Trump is no conservative. He’s just a guy who says stuff he thinks will play for the audience in front of him.

Pretty sure that pic of Trump & Feinstein was when he told a GOP lawmaker "youre just afraid of the NRA" or words to that effect. I'd have to watch the video again--so I won't. Makes me ill.

Slightly to this topic. Australia did another guy back amnesty last year in-lieu of the Lindtt cafe siege they had in Dec '14. Someone turned in a rocket launcher. Someone also surrendered a WWI German maxim machine gun.

P.S: Australian gun laws f*cking suck.
