The reality is that any competition that allows 2 inch ROM on a bench press with a ****ing 90 degree arch to be a legal lift is a huge ****ing joke. The guy doing the lift i guess gets props for technically “being within the rules” but if i ever saw someone doing that IRL i’d tell them to get the **** out of my gym until they learned proper form. Doing all kinds of retarded gymnastics to give yourself a 2” ROM is simply cheating in my book, within some bull**** rules or not.

-The dude is strong
-He's within the rules
-The rules are ridiculous
-He probably doesn't consistently train with this form and is just complying with the federation to be competitive
-This is the reason clean & press is no longer an olympic lift if you're informed about the history of the movement in competition
A possible solution to this ass-hattery:
-If it was possible for your thighs to be too fat to hit parallel, then the squats wouldn't count; your elbows should hit a 90 degree angle at least as there's no ergonomically beneficial reason to allow this

It reads “the hip crease must be below the top of the knee”...there is no reference to how far or by how much.
If you put a drop of water on your knee and it rolls to your hip crease it doesn’t matter if it takes 3 seconds or 3 months to get there...it meets the rules.
People are really lost.

If the crease of the hip can't travel below the knee due to physiological restraints, then the movement is no more valid than any other failed lift. The word "parallel" may not mean EXACTLY this but is well enough for discussing the issue.

it's an inherent flaw with the bench press itself- there's no other way to mitigate arch unless you can create some sort of standard like "curvature of back can only be x inches off bench" but good luck judging that

Why does it even matter though even if it does look stupid
I'm sure hes still strong af benching normally as well if he wanted cool points for a greater ROM but he lifts for a specific purpose and that is competing.

Do you compete in powerlifting? If not, why do you care what the rules are?
