Nope. It's not actually. He's also benching to his sternum so I'm not sure what you're looking at but failing on bench isn't hard to get out of... you can set the pins or just dump each side.

That much of an arch looks uncomfortable to me honestly but I don't know the first thing about powerlifting rules and I couldn't even unrack that so good for him is all I have to say.

Seriously though, how much do you think that arch help him? Did it increase his lift by 10, 15, 25% or more?

Ok, assuming it buffed his lift by 25%, if that is 455 lbs, then he should still be very capable of lifting 340+ lbs. Which is pretty sure more than majority of us here can do.

How is that advocating overflared elbows? Larry wheels, Leroy walker two of the best benches in the world start with elbows higher than their chest. John haack benches eith a huge arch and his elbows still start above his chest.

Thought you meant during the actual press. When the bar is on your chest, was trying to figure out how that could possibly work lol.

Good concept however Noriega actually arches even more when he unracks the bar. So he'd still get away with it.

Idiots lifting like this is exactly why no one cares about powerlifting. Using ridiculous range of motion, mechanical advantage, giant rubber compression suits, who the **** cares?

Funny thing is the strong powerlifters would probably do very well in Strongman with their base strength being so high.

Not gonna read a single post, just gonna say that people who have never competed in anything (whether physical or not) should shut the fuk up. You do whatever you can to win within the rules of the sport, that's it. Nobody cares if you're impressed or if you think "it counts". Suck a cock.

Usually is the case but there's really nothing holding back a top powerlifter at being good at Strongman. Just need to practice the events since the base strength is there. Strength is the biggest factor of success in anything lifting related.

ITT: people who have never competed in PLing and don't even know the rules of PLing arguing with actual PLers about what the rules of their sport is.

Pro tip: 95% of people who actually compete in PLing don't give a flying fuk about how much you're arching, or consider it cheating in any way.

Raw powerlifting is bigger and more popular than it's ever been. There are contests that are paying out 10s of thousands (big dawgs) to hundreds of thousands (kern us open) of dollars.

There are no lifting suits in raw powerlifting.

Agreed. If they changed the ruleset I might respect it, but zero chance I’ll ever respect anyone that benches like the guy in OPs video. It is a huge **** you to the lifting community to call that crap a bench press, and even worse to allow it in a competition. Change the rules, or accept that people will continue to make fun of PL. This kind of **** is why Crossfit is also a joke. Anyone that states they bench 455 then proceeds to show you by arching their back like a hooker and pushing up for 2 inches deserves nothing more than a good punch in the face.

In no way am I saying all powerlifting is bad or even remotely close to this.

I'm saying no one is going to pay money to watch a midget fold himself in half to push a bar three inches.

I think the caption was "most impressive pound for pound bench ever". More like most ridiculous. Anyone who doesn't know the rules looking at that is going to laugh their ass off.
