Open relationship just means you are banging a girl you wouldn't be caught dead with in public. Low standards of piss.

Surprised you don't feel disgusted about yourself/body on a regular basis LMFAO. It's definitely a tool/toy regardless but keep thinking it's not

It may be fun for people on a small (personal level) basis. Civilization wise it is a disaster. Sex and Culture is a book that dives into this. Analyzed multiple civilizations.... a society is on its way to collapse once promiscuity and non monogamy become the norm. Multiple reasons for this, female hypergamy being a large one. We are headed this way.

this. We've dabbled but never got into the "lifestyle". We didn't fall in love with other people. just group sex. You have to be mentally strong to do it because those jealousy feels can get real sometimes especially in the beginning. But if you do it enough times it sets in mentally that it is all just physical and who gives a chit. sex with others didn't mean building a life/future with them.

but open relationship means go with other people whenever you want? we've never done that or ever plan to at this point.

Why would I be disgusted with myself ? Very few people had me in that way, they did everything for me and actually made me happy. The next one will be the same.

Good luck with your own love life, I hope you find someone who has the same mind set as you do.

It's also natural for men to be adamant about their wife refraining from getting ****ed by other men. It's in our instinct as men to be territorial with our women, to "protect" them from other dicks. Yes you will still be attracted to other people but you need to stop yourself from acting on that. It makes for a stronger person and a better relationship.

It just blows my mind how there is this pervasive idea that the way things have been done in our parents and grandparents time is now up for debate about whether or not it is optimal. Your grandparents had a strong marriage for 50 years because they didn't think about their wives getting a train run on them cuz orgasms feel nice. In the end resisting that kind of debauchery leads to something much more fruitful and meaningful.

Our grandparents didn't have social media or smart phones. People and ideas are more connected than ever globally. Times and people change (arguably for better or worse). Religion is also progressively less accepted while science took a major mainstream control. Everything including ideas and ethical standards eventually become "out of date". Things constantly need to be reflected and revised to accommodate relevant changes. It's comfortable to be in denial and stick to old fashioned way of doing things.

Again, I'm neither pro nor against this. Just want to see constructive arguments from both sides

Thereโ€™s no way to know this. Many women stayed in miserable/abusive marriages because they were not financially independent

But swinging and stuff like that has been going on well before the internet existed. Just may be more common now

I have a smart phone, never downloaded tinder. I have no desire to. People reject morality because they want to, not because science said to. I don't think our society has really changed all that much with regards to what works and what people SHOULD be doing since we're seeing people show a lot of remorse for not doing things differently. That video of Bree Olson crying about how her life turned out comes to mind.

If anything I'd say the people in denial are the ones refusing to believe old fashioned standards are the ways that worked. I'm denying that there is anything good to come from a hookup culture that encourages complete narcissism. I don't believe it's something I need to adapt to because it's the way our society is trending.

Yeah, there's no way to know that or how far it extended, either. They could have stayed in a bad marriage because they thought it was more important to be selfless and raise the family. There definitely can be middle ground where you can be traditional but still not take part in an abusive relationship, either way. I wouldn't say going off and sleeping around instead of getting married because it's better than potentially being married to someone abusive is a good reason, though.

The point of open relationships? I would imagine one being the idea of flexibility in finding more than one compatible partner to share life experiences with, ultimately. Opportunity to connect with opposite gender in a deeper level

Its super common in this area (Northampton area) and its often the women in control over the open status.

Its always the same thing. The girl has her trophy soyboy that she shows off in public and the guys she nails on the side (with permission) that for "some reason" you never see them with in public.

One guy I know actually refers to his GF (maybe wife) as his partner. She treats him like absolute crap at the gym, always ordering him around and telling him when its time to go. He seems genuinely terrified of her.

Another guy is in a 4 way relationship (2 girls, 2 guys) and they had a kid together last year. For about a month he was posting a bunch of happy family pictures but that has completely stopped. He has not posted anything at all for about 14 months now, can't even imagine the pile of **** that "family" became.

I donโ€™t think open relationships are even really about orgasms. In my mind, open relationships are more about acknowledging that monogamy rarely works in the long term.

The โ€œoldโ€ way of thinking is that youโ€™re supposed to be 100% committed only to this one partner, and if you stray then something is wrong with you. If someone does stray then itโ€™s hidden, it comes to light, feels are hurt, and either the people work through it or they split and continue the cycle.

The open relationship is a product of the following generation who has seen that everyone who can stray strays, so how can it mean something is wrong with the people who do it? Theyโ€™ve seen that monogamy doesnโ€™t work, so instead of pretending it does and then failing, theyโ€™re acknowledging it at the front end and rolling with the punches from there.

In reality it doesnโ€™t change much, people have been sleeping around while in relationships since the dawn of time. Open relationships are a way of accepting that, not hiding it, and trying to deal with it
