Ive done a couple snow rides like snow up to the hubs. If you have v’s you can get “kool stop salmon” pads that works great in wet/snow.

You just have to feather a lot in the snow.

I ride hydraulic, never had a problem except they sound like a stuck pig.

Cut the ride short and practiced manuals for 30 minutes at the end of the trail.

Can't manual for chit which is hilarious because I can do backwards nose manuals if I have an incline to work with.

I need to be able to manual on command for unlimited distance before 5/1/2018. I want to be able to hold them forever with ease.

Yeah, MTB is so much different than road and gravel cycling. Different power systems (VO2 and anaerobic conditioning vs. tempo and threshold), different muscles (way more glutes to get up those mothafukkkin hills). But so much fun.

I can't manual for ****. Can't wheelie for ****, can't manual for ****, can't nose manual. None of it. No skills

most gravel bikes come with just one ring on the front and for group rides I wouldn't think most people would be able to keep up; u could spin your legs like a mad man but that will get annoying pretty fast on a long group ride.

btw: just busting chops as usual.

finally picked up my first real bike today.






I wont lie, the color sold me..its a beautiful matte neon red which looks more like deep sunset orange.

its a Giant Escape 3....LBS had giant escape 2 (in black) also but i didnt see the point spending 100 bucks more on a bike for a color i did not like and for aluminium forks which i didnt find comfy (not a fan of dark black colors). Also..i noticed zero difference between tourney, acera and altus with only noticeable difference being different shifters.

took it for a spin...and gotta say...Giant makes the most solid constructed bikes even at this price point...it rides much faster and smoother than other brands i tried such as cannondale and trek.
its simply Fast which means i enjoyed every second riding it.

and gears shifted very smoothly and inspired confidence.


I gassed out within 30 mins of riding and realized all these years of smoking (which i quit recently) and avoiding cardio has taken its toll on my lungs...hopefully this bike will make it fun to build my cardio....and by next year i am physically conditioned to justify purchasing an endurance road bike. (or maybe not?).




I need some advice on what bike helmet (around 50 bucks if possible) to buy and some nice smartphone apps for cyclist to track distance covered, routes etc.

You have to try on helmets to decide. I ended up with a helmet that wasn't even on my list and was only $60 despite my limitless budget i had set for purchasing a helmet... The $150 ones simply felt like chit on my head.

Use strava app for tracking rides. Free.

As for the Synapse, it is an "endurance road geometry" bike. It has a bit more upright of a riding position than a "racier" bike, like a Supersix (or a Specialized Tarmac, for example). It's still a super-fast, super high quality race bike, but the geometry is a bit more relaxed so it'll be a lot more comfortable to ride, especially longer distances. That's the primary difference in intent between the Synapse vs. the Supersix. The Supersix is for the racer, the Synapse is for the guy who wants to ride fast but still enjoy himself, and isn't so much concerned with eeking out the ultimate in aerodynamic speed.
Awesome, thanks for the reply, the seller doesnt return texts or answer his phone, lol. I ran the number on the ad and he's a local cyclists who has a TON of nice and expensive bikes. Hopefully i can get a hold of him so i can take a test ride. Found another Cannondale Synapse thats a newer model for a lil bit more that will be my back up if the first guy falls through. Thanks again for the info it was really helpful.

Hope everyone is doing well, havent posted in absolutely ages.


I'm looking to get a tri bike and came across a local ad for a bike for $5500 CDN. or 4204 USD. I didn't realize that a TT bike + a good TT position will save anywhere between 20 to 30 minutes over a full ironman course. That is absolutely mental. Was also listening to the trainerroad podcast about drag coefficient and again, you could be putting out 220 watts approximately with a really aero setup or putting out 300 watts with a road bike and be going the same speed. Frustrating as I put out 260 watts for about 5.5 hours on my ironman bike leg (very hilly course at whistler), and i feel i was moving like molasses.

Anyone know why my left hand keeps going numb after about 10 mi.? I feel like my riding position is good, and I had my bike fitted to me.

thanks brah...get lot of compliments on street..which is why i didnt buy a lock coz i am not gonna leave it out my sight...it will get stolen in minutes even with kryptonite i feel.

and i am not a fan of black colors on two wheelers..why try to be less visible on the street? this color glows like neon.

Are you new to riding? ~30 minutes is pretty quick to have numbness, but you can have to work into even that if new or off the bike for a while. Or trying new gloves? Otherwise moving hand positions should help some.

MIPS is a scam unless you have a shaven head. I've crashed enough to know that the helmet will always move a bit. They gotta use stupid mannequin heads without hair so the regular helmet has enough friction to not move to get the test results they want.
