Structural engineer. Lmao. What is that like a chittier civil engineer? And civil engineering is a joke to begin with.
Congratulations, you are literally at the bottom of the engineering heirachry.

You cut your teeth in industry in your 20s, I traveled, worked the remote jobs, and put in the 3000hr years. In my later 20s I leveraged my field experience and worked to transition into supervisory and then management roles. Started a family, wife stays at home and manages the household. I now manage a primary business unit and business development for a $300M group of companies working about 45-50hrs a week.
I also never miss a field trip, I left early yesterday for Parent Teacher Interviews. My CEO has 4 kids, I covered his board presentation last month so he could see his sons play hockey.
Looking back the advice I give to people is if you need to forgo friends and family just to reach or maintain a position that you are in, then you are punching above your weight class and doomed to burn out. You don't have the bandwidth for what you are attempting.
But you sound like your mind is made up, if you dont want kids dont have them, dont know why this warrants 5 pages of arguing.

However, I know plenty of engineers of all types. Let's see your outlook on things when you're 28ish, maybe even sooner. There seems to be a cycle to these things.

A guy gutting out 70-80hr weeks through his 30s/40s because it gets incrementally higher prestige titles or a fatter bonus isn't peaking to me. Why would you hand the complete control of your life to your employer? I have worked with types like this and most have been the singularly most miserable/boring kunts you can work with, all they want to talk about is work or the chit they have bought to justify the time spent at work.
But different strokes, if you get more satisfaction from work than you do from personal relationships then go for it.

It changes your priorities in life. I wouldn’t say it stops you from peaking. It’s probably more dependant on the woman you had the kid with than the kids.
I have friends with kids who still do fun things, lift and travel, him and his wife make things work.
I have other friends who quit working out, drinking and basically leaving their house. Most of it was because they are not a solid couple.

LOL at the argument that having kids is not selfish.
I did not ask to be born, yet here i am dealing with the vast miseries and challenges life has to offer untill i inevitably die. The one thing that is certain in this world is death, and old age is if your lucky.

Kids are great....for some people.
At almost 29 i still have very little desire to have my own. Sure, i love my friends and relatives kids but only in small doses. I feel a huge amount of relief when i get home after visiting them for more than a few hours. The amount of time and money it takes to raise a child properly is astronomical. Everyone i know with kids lives paycheck to paycheck, eats like chit, and is getting fat and/or is already obese. They also work 60 hours a week to support that suburbia life. No thanks jeff. I love being able to do what I want, when i want, how i want, with no one biching and complaining. I could easily support a 4 member household on my income, but instead i use it to travel, buy jeeps/trucks/toys, buy properties, and invest in stocks. My lifestyle isn't for everyone, but its perfect for me.
Inb4 but OMG you are going to die alone...
Just lmao at this mindset. Half of marriages end in divorce, and the other half are usually made up of couples sleeping in separate beds by age 50. Being with the same person for years and years on end never seemed natural to me. Props to the boys in here that manage to live that life. Ill take a 5/10 tinder sloot every day of the week over an aging, demanding, fat wife who biches 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and only puts out on Saturday mornings.

I'm 26, college full time and I have sole custody of my 18month daughter. Granted I don't need to work a regular job to provide for her, things are really not as difficult as people make it seem. She just started daycare for the first time this week so shes been with me almost 24/7(minus school or gym). With daycare being available 6am to 630pm there is only like 4-5 hours she would need care for(because of sleep) a day, if I let her stay in daycare that long.
I think life gets so hard/declines for people 25 or whatever OP mentioned because people have to make a life change if they were party goers, irresponsible and other ****ty habits. The only thing that changed for me was I cant go and party it up every weekend, get drunk af/reckless and a lot of life has to be scheduled instead of free spirit/spur of the moment.

I don't have to worry about insurance, daycare bills(I just got her into it so she can socialize with kids though), or other things I guess parents worry about. It's been an absolute joy for me and im looking forward to her being older where we can actually enjoy things together as right now anything i really do would be more for me then her, since she wont remember it lol. At times I think about trying to get another child while I'm still young.

Although its very unlikely anyone would choose kids over the things you mentioned, you have to also take into account that the majority of the people likely have little chance to become those high level things you said otherwise a child PROBABLY would not prevent them from doing so.

I know a lot of people having kids and they're just over 25. Saw another thread on here about how "life starts to decline after 25", which IMO is bullchit, since you are still young and have so much to learn about how the world works. Once you have kids, your life is no longer your own and you have to literally provide for another being. Risks are almost not worth the stress from the weight on your back at that point.
