Almost no running prep and next to zero swimming prep. And I used my road bike, ie my only bike. I literally only saw 2 other people use road bikes with traditional road handlebars. I saw a handful of people with clip on aero bars, and the vast majority used actual tt/tri bikes with full on time trial helmets and the works. I was really surprised honestly. Driving into whistler I was like... 'ohhhhh jeeeeeezzzzzus i am under prepared'. And also like i said on the previous page i thought going in 'ah fuuuuck it, tt bikes are just a gimmick and money grab'. Turns out they can save you 20 to 30 minutes realistically. I've done a lot of reading though and i think you can get away with just putting aero bars on, but the reason I would like to get a dedicated triathlon bike is because I like to ride my road bike around and I dont want to have to constantly remove the clip on aero bars, move my saddle, change my saddle height, etc... And it's important to train in that aero position and thus not realistic to constantly be changing stuff around on your bike.

I have a Trek FX 7.3..put 38c tires on it..wider bars,shorter stem..use it mostly for my back roads/country roads/longer distant riding..Good bike..HOWEVER..i dont feel that just because its 2018 that we need internal cables..I dont care to mess with all that crap personally..Should never become standard..just my .02

looks for ebay stores (the bike closet for example) and/or sellers with a ton of good reviews.

some people actually prefer external brake cabling, easy to fix, less change of water going inside tubes and less rattling.

I've been pulling my 10 month old son in a Burley trailer which connects to the QR skewer via a Steel Adapter thingy. A creak has started in my back wheel when peddling under pressure. Its happening with and without the trailer on....

My wheels are HED Ardennes Black wheelset which came with lightweight QRs. It looks like there might be a very, very slight bend now in the QR from the weight of the trailer tugging at it....Has anyone experienced a bent QR causing some creaking?

I'm going to switch it to a heavy trainer QR and test if that fixes.

Maybe will get my defy today, we'll see. Pretty excited. I was considering getting another new mountain bike, but then realized I ride the road bike literally 10x more often, and it's outdated as fuk lol. The best part is how easy it is to buy used road bikes in brand new shape on craigslist.

i had zero luck with finding good road bikes on craigslist...they were all either too small or far away in some ghetto (prolly stolen)

but my budget was also 700 max so thats low i guess.

i second this. Also more pro riders are starting to use disc brakes. Not to mention we are riding around in a recreational manner and disc brakes are significantly safer in rainy conditions and good disc brakes have better stopping power and are significantly more consistent. I suspect most people saying 'why go disc brakes' are the people who have never used them extensively (no hate just saying honestly). The caveat being, if you just ride around in flat areas and only dry conditions then you probably won't get the full benefit of discs

Shouldn't really, all SL's have it cut so I'm going to assume the person interested knows that.. if not. I'll clarify it before moving further into the sale.

I was contemplating on waiting for the 2019s to roll out, but they're literally just changing some color schemes. New Ultegra looks and FEELS bomb!

something to keep in mind is that now that people "need" disc break u can find pretty good deal on reg frames and wheelset

installed some nice bar ends today.

scratched bit of handlebar but that area will go under grips anyway so worked out




ordered another pair of bar ends which i will try tomorrow.

these should come factory fitted on most flatbar bikes i feel

a good way to loosen grip is to use windex spray it inside the grip.

Rubbing alcohol is way better than Windex because it gets dry way faster.

You can always buy drop bars for that bike eventually. Would be fun for performance rides.

thanks!...i read u can also use hair spray.

problem with drop bars is that i ll have to get different brake and gear levers and all that cost of different parts is not worth it on a sub$500 hybrid bike...and riding on bar ends essentially feels like 'riding on the hoods'.

if i am still cycling in next 2 years..i will probably upgrade to an endurance bike...for now i will stick to hybrid with 700X32 tires that work great for city streets..btw are continential gator skins good tires for speed and endurance?

Boyos, I talked to the guys at Jenson USA today to get the latest shipping estimate on my shifters, as the last I heard, they were expecting them in around 3/27. Unfortunately, the dude said they're still TBD from Shimano, BUT, he did offer to hook me up with the set for the same price as the 2 separate shifters I paid like a month ago or whatever.

(for those not familiar, for whatever reason, Shimano priced the set of 2 Ultegra Di2 hydraulic shifters at $560, and each individual shifter at $247, so you can buy separate left and right shifters for about $60 less than you can buy them as a set, WTF)

The dude took care of all the logistics for me, I didn't have to pay anything extra or go through any "return and place a new order" BS or any of that. I just received an email from them that they shipped, with a tracking number and all, so it's actually happening!!

Now I just need a few more Di2 bits and bobs, and to decide on new bars and stem length, and we'll be g2g!

new york streets are brutal....was riding at 18 and hit minor bumps and flashlight mount broke off ...some cars behind me saw and drove around it but one suv drove over my flashlight..luckily flashlight is tough as hell and survived.

i am just gonna keep phone in pocket from now on and ride without any gadgets on handlebar.feels lighter anyway

i took out my phone from the mount and did rest of my ride without any stupid mounts.

i am just gonna keep phone in pocket from now on and ride without any gadgets on handlebar.feels lighter anyway

also, i have no idea how long my tires will survive the streets
Yeah.. I'd avoid riding with a phone on your handlebars in NYC.. or just generally.

Spring means the wind blows where I live. I don't know how you brahs in FL or Texas panhandle ride in this chit. I was pulling at the front of the group most of the ride and felt every bit of the wind. Sore AF today.
