Do you guys wear tights when biking or do you just wear whatever? I want to get more into bicycling but I think the tights could take some gettin used to.

I wearbibs as they are, by far, the most comfortable for riding. If you feel weird riding around in tights and having people see you, just wear some shorts over top. You can even buy MTB/Enduro shorts which won't bunch up or get caught on the seat (Which is a problem with "normal" shorts)

You can certainly wear whatever the heck you want, but there is an enormous difference in comfort. I no longer skimp on this one as I do longer rides. Rides of an hour or 2 won't make that much of a difference. Rides of several hours, such as 4/5/6+, the quality of your bibs makes a HUGE difference between getting back and being tired, or getting back and having your junk and taint be on fire

Now I just need a few more Di2 bits and bobs, and to decide on new bars and stem length, and we'll be g2g!
cycling for better or for worst has the WORST consistency price wise... in one place u can buy something cheap as dirt while in other places they will want $100 for ONE F'ing tire

Clif Bloks, Hammer gels are excellent but are not necessary if you're penny pinching. They are pricey but offer convenience rather than making your own snacks. If you're riding more than 50 miles, you'll want some source of sodium to go along with your your hydration. You can either combine it in water, or simply eat it (snickers, salted almonds, clip bar, etc). Cycling nutrition is something that is very personal and takes many long rides to optimize.

Hit by a car today . . . NOT me, but a dog coming out to chase me. If he was just a little faster, it could have been very ugly (like run over with tires ugly). Fortunately for him, it was just a glancing blow off the front quarter panel (the car had slowed to ~10-15 mph), but it still sounded like 80-90 lbs of flesh & fur hitting steel. He did a 180 and jogged back to the garage he was laying by. 20 minutes later on the way back, he chases me again (srs)

crazy. worst are drivers in SUV..they dont stop fast enough and their wide cars pour into bike lane sometimes.

i was thinking for a while whether to invest in a good helmet and i finally did:

Just did a gravel half-century race. 4 hours, 4k feet of climbing. Of course, it was only supposed to be 38 miles, but the course was marked wrong, so me and about 20 others went the wrong way. Ended up doing 49 miles instead of 38
debated before the race if I should go Cutthroat or Diverge. Went Cutthroat. Should've gone Diverge.

Being a product of the 70's when I don't recall seeing even ONE person ever wearing one on their bike and most of the skateboarders didn't either, I rode helmetless for about 6 months when I started riding a few years ago before I "smartened up"

Meh, I still ride helmetless when I know it's safe. Sunday mornings are good for it, did 35 miles this morning no helmet. Mtb always gets a helmet though, or huge climbs/fast descents on the road bike. Bike paths id never wear one lol. Old tour de France footage is so bad ass when they've got no helmet on. Alpha.

Whats up with bikes that mix and match groupsets? How less reliable is this compared to a completely matched groupset?

I see even big bike companies doing this, they'll have one component that is Ultegra and everything else 105 and call it Model XXXX Ultegra Road Bike 2017.

No issue of compatibility. For example, Cannondale use their own proprietary cranksets and Trek have their own direct-mount brake calipers. One of my bikes from Trek came with a mix of Ultegra and 105. All the big OEMs take care to make sure that all components perform as a system...all you're really losing is the aesthetic of a matching grouppo.

they do take a bit of time to get used to honestly but you go significantly faster with tights on. Also you wont be flapping around in the wind. really depends what your goals are though honestly

I'm rolling in $3K Enves. They are not justifiable on the performance gains that they provide me. They do however provide perceptible improvements in comfort and handling due the size tires I run. Again, none of this can be translated to good value for money.

They are simply something that I want from a gear-lust perspective and in order to optimize my dream bike for the characteristics I value. For me, they make me love my bike that much more and enhance the overall experience in ways that can't be quantified.

Even if they do make me go faster, from an aero perspective I prefer that not to rely on tech for speed enhancements, as I ride for fitness.

Ultimately, I don't think its any different than when people option-up a car and add moonroof, 19" rims, Bi xenon headlights, Apple CarPlay, etc, etc. People want what they want.

zomg....yes. You can get really good quality fairly lightweight alloy wheels (Roval is great for this), but the stiffness of a carbon wheel combined with the lighter weight makes for a pretty impressive combo.

Best upgrades I ever did were carbon wheelsets.

My biggest complaint after upgrading to Enve's was that I almost need disc brakes trying to ride through the puddles the cardio bunnies leave on the multi-use path after I give em a little laser beam brrt brrrt
