Internet was pretty young then and the typical person still didn't know how to get good porn. I think it was just a general attitude changing with the times. I turned 18 in 97 and the next few years I got laid a massive amount.

If it just comes to getting laid it's easier than ever. For much of history, it was only exceptional men who were able to have more than a handful of women. Casanova was notorious simply for being a womanizer and putting so much effort into it. Now it's nothing special.

Relationships are a different matter though, in part because it's so easy to find sex elsewhere.

As for the kind of guys getting no action, nothing has changed. They weren't getting any 200 years ago, and they aren't getting any now. The only difference is that more guys around them are getting laid, so their lives seem sadder by comparison.
