Wawa, the Pennsylvania-based gas-station chain, has a loyal fan base.

Those in the know — usually those who have grown up in the Mid-Atlantic states where Wawa is most highly concentrated — worship Wawa. With over 790 locations, the chain is no small-time regional player, and its reputation of high-quality sandwiches and food precedes it.

In Market Force Information's annual consumer survey, Wawa beat out several major sandwich chains — including last year's winner, Firehouse Subs — to be crowned America's best sandwich shop. Nearly 11,500 people voted in the survey.

We recently visited the chain to see what all the fuss was about, and we were duly impressed — impressed enough to declare that it's officially better than its main regional rival, Sheetz.

Wawa is great. My buddies and I would go there during college on the weekends and feast. Plus there are some around Virginia Beach area as well.

Publix is GOAT though.

WaWa is amazing in general. Literally don't go to any other gas station anymore if I actually have to go inside.
Their subs are amazing.. for a gas station.

too bad wawa parking lots are a death trap.

I thought wawa sandwiches were amazing a decade ago. They seemed to have skimped on quality since around 2010.

Wawa and sheetz were my 2 go to spots for food working the night shift when I lived back east. Colorado has absolutely nothing to compare.

As a guy who has lived in Maryland, a wawa area and in Florida publix territory.. publix NO QUESTION. Wawa is decent, sometimes they suck. Publix was always on point with quality and taste

Primos beats the hell out of Wawa. Not even close.

I find this survey hilarious. People seem to like poverty food. Everytime I get a wawa sandwich it seems like a shrunken testicle with sub par ingredients. I've gagged a few times having no other option but to get a wawa sandwich for a quick eat.

Is this based on a certain price range or something? Primo hoagies are about double price of wawa.

EDIT: Didn't realize Primo is Philly raised and probably only local to this area, so you people outside of Philly don't know the glory I am talking about. Tuna Diablo HHHNNNNGGGGGG
