Surprising Marriage Statistics

I have seen multiple people state that men are abandoning marriage in record number, that marriage is a poor financial decision, and have noticed an overwhelming animosity for it from some miscers. Being married I'm obviously pro-marriage but this isn't to argue whether marriage is a good idea or not. Just simply pointing out that while marriage is becoming less popular, it is not because of the current social and dating cultures that social media and dating apps have brought about. Marriage declined way more in the 70's and the 2000's, before IG and Tindr.


Specifically was interested to see how the % of adults marrying has trended in recent years in response to a comment I read, and was pretty surprised tbh.



Turns out the % of adults >18 that are not married has only dropped 9% in the last 25 years, and has remained stagnant that past ~5 years. A big factor is that the average age of marriage has gone up to nearly 30 years old, compared to about 21 in 1960. In short, there are MUCH less adults in the 18-25 range that are married.

Also it turns out that only 14% of adults >18 that are not currently married are as such because they don't want to be. A majority of unmarried people want to get married some day.

Funny enough, it looks like abandoning marriage is a trait of the uneducated. Those with a bachelor's degree or more have been getting married at essentially the same rate for the last 25 years. Meanwhile those with a high school diploma or less have decreased by 13% in the same time. The same drop was seen for those with only some college education.

I am 30 and most of the divorces I have seen already have been either people that were desperate for anyone to date them or people that shouldn't even have been dating each other let alone getting married.

I think its better to study divorce rates than marriage statistics.

Most people are open to marriage and truly believe there's a happy ending for them. Most of the people against it are the ones who've already been burned.

Bullshet statistics or twisted statistics don’t tell us about the absolute cuckery of marriage for the vast majority of men.

You do not have the anywhere near the authority, respect, or control, as a man, that you had in a marriage as little as 50 years ago. Women have an ability to take almost everything they want and do and say whatever they want towards you, and even physically assault you. If your wife does not hit you and you don’t think having to ok everything with her as a an “equal” means you are in a good marriage you are delusional. That’s not a good marriage, regardless of what cucks lie and say about their status.

Interdasting, that's a good point. It's much more acceptable now to just have an LTR with no marriage, or to raise a child without getting married. Forcing marriage for cultural sake or for a child probably does lead to a high divorce rate.

Over 30 with bachelor's degree checking in. No interest in getting married crew. I have no issues with commitment, but it's just not a decision that benefits me in any way whatsoever, but could end up costing me if things don't work out. Why voluntarily put myself through that? If a woman can't commit to me without the promise of a legally recognized title or a claim to portions of my assets (however few they may be), then she doesn't deserve to be married anyway.

I come from a upper middle class religious family. My parents and all their friends have been married for 30+ years.

HOWEVER

The amount of quiet misery that I see/hear with these marriages is a lot. Absolutely reminds me of that movie American Beauty. You got some people that are just in it for the politics and have their girlfriend/boyfriend on the side. You got others where one is a beta and knows the other cheats. You got some that can't stand each other but social constructs keep them from getting divorced. You got others that are only sticking it out until the kids are out of the house. You got others that are miserable but just love company.

I can count on one hand the couples that I've met that have been together forever and actually still love each other.

Add in all the divorce statistics ... and i can't hardly find anything good about modern marriage. I think things were better when marriage had a more natural/tribal aspect to it (arranged/3 wives/etc). I think the money and "idea" of marriage in the last 100 years has done a good job ruining it in the western world.

I'm almost sure if the guys who do plan on getting married knew the legal side of everything they'd change their tune. A lot of guys go into marriage without any type of plan, by the time they figure out the business/legal aspects of it, its to late. Women don't think of it unless they have a lot of money, then they tend to think just like us. Typically though most women aren't marrying down. If they make 100k they want someone making the same or more.

With access to the news and social media, we are seeing a lot of these high profile men getting burned. I think we will see a very harsh reaction from men when marriage is brought up.
